PM Update: Mostly cloudy, more flurries possible

By Ian Livingston

Cold, breezy and fairly quiet through Thurs.

* Weather '09: International events | Ann to Antarctica: Weather delay *
* Outside now? Temps, winds & more: Weather Wall *

The cold continues to relax slightly, enough to let most places rise above freezing and into the mid-30s today. Like yesterday, some flurries and snow showers are moving this direction from the north but should not amount to much. Cold continues through the week before an increasingly likely light snow event arrives late Thursday and then ushers in more frigid air behind it.

Radar: Latest regional radar shows movement of precipitation over past three hours. Powered by HAMweather. Refresh page to update. Click here or on image to enlarge. Or see radar bigger on our Weather Wall.

Through Tonight: A little disturbance swinging around strong low pressure well to our northeast will pass through, leading to mostly cloudy skies and the chance of a few flurries or a snow shower. Temperatures fall to lows in the middle 20s most spots. Winds continue to blow around 10 to 15 mph.

Tomorrow (Wednesday): Mostly cloudy skies may linger into the morning before things trend clearer as the day wears on. Highs should shoot for the middle and even upper 30s. Those pesky winds refuse to leave, with some gusts past 20 mph possible.

I saw some conversational snow flurries while jogging about 7 this morning in Arlington when there was relatively little cloud cover. Was that lake effect snow?

(I asked the conversational snow flakes but they wouldn't respond. Maybe because of their chilly disposition...)

Fairly decent snow shower north of Gaithersburg, looks like it must be reaching the ground. Headed in the general direction of the city/just west.

Light, enjoyable flurries floating about...nothing better than some fresh air!

Light flurries floating about the Adelphi/College Park area. A pleasant remainder that rockfish season is near!

Sorry about the repetition...meant to say it was snowing in Adelphi and I love to rockfish...lol

I like Joel's clever comment as well. I'm not a meteorologist, but the snow looked like it was coming off the lakes to me.

(That's judging based on radar, not the appearance of the flakes themselves.)
