Today: Mostly sunny and pleasant. 78-82. | Tonight: Partly cloudy. 52-58. | Tomorrow: Increasing clouds, slight chance of p.m. showers. 79-83. | A Look Ahead | Get Express Forecast by E-mail

When Mother Nature hasn't been dumping rain on us, she's given us some pretty fantastic days to enjoy. We're catching her good side yet again today with another picture-perfect fall day to go out and enjoy. We should be able to hold on to the niceness through most of this long weekend, before a pesky frontal wave begins to move in and create some rain chances for us late Monday and into Tuesday.

Today (Sunday): How's one more perfect day sound? A few more clouds dot the sky this afternoon but sunshine continues to be the dominant force. Temperatures are similar to yesterday and still plenty pleasant, with highs near 80. Winds blow in ever so slightly from the southwest, well below 10 mph. Simply put, fantastic. Confidence: High

Tonight: Skies remain mostly clear for most of the overnight but towards morning, we could see an increase in cover with a weak front closing in. Temperatures won't be quite as cool as last night, only dipping to the low-to-mid 50s. Winds diminish overnight, possibly allowing for some fog to develop. Confidence: High

Keep reading for the forecast into next week...

Tomorrow (Monday): We can't keep perfect 10 weather forever, but Monday isn't too far behind. Skies vary between partly and mostly cloudy through the day as a cold front approaches but any showers (20-30% chance) look to hold off until the late afternoon or evening hours so it may yet qualify as a nice day. Temperatures warm a bit and highs are in the lower 80s. Winds remain from the southwest at less than 10 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow Night: Showers are possible (20-30% chance) but few and far between as we head into Monday night. Skies remain mostly cloudy with lows in the 50s. Confidence: Medium-High

We remain right on the edge of the cold front Tuesday and that means a tricky forecast. A wave develops along the front bringing with it higher chances for rain. The exact path of that wave takes has a large impact on our rain here. Right now the wave looks to stay near the MD/PA border, but that's close enough to possibly (30-40% chance) throw some showers our way. Skies are mostly cloudy with highs in the 70s. Shower chances wane overnight as mostly cloudy skies remain with lows in the low-to-mid 50s. Confidence: Low-Medium

Wednesday and Thursday look much brighter. As the front moves away, we'll begin to clear out and drier air moves right on in. We'll enjoy mostly sunny skies, and temperatures a bit cooler, with highs in the upper 60s to near 70. Confidence: Medium

Great morning for a run. A few trees with bright reds and oranges in Rock Creek Park below the zoo and along R street in Georgetown. Fall must be getting close. Enjoy.

What's with this 40% rain/thunderstorm [per TWC!] threat Tuesday, when previously we were promised great weather until Thursday???

In addition to an afternoon Library run [thanks to Columbus Day!], Tuesday evening is a HUGE dance date with Kandye Kane at the Clarendon Ballroom...Looks as though the "much UNNEEDED rain" crowd is back to their old pattern of dumping me with nasty, or even dangerous [lightning!] weather on my dance days...
