Video: "We are in the tornado" from Rice, Texas
* Chance of showers later, mild: Full Forecast *
Sunday evening, Eric Meyers - an emergency management coordinator in Navarro County, Texas, videotaped his incredibly close encounter with a powerful tornado. In the remarkable video, shown above, Meyers yells repeatedly: "We are in the tornado."
The tornado carved a seven-mile path through Navarro County and destroyed five homes in Rice, Texas -- according to CNN.com.
10:45 a.m. update: Check out this 2008 video of another close encounter with a tornado - this time from Iowa - where the observers also shout "We are in the tornado" multiple times.

I've noticed there is a tendency for people to repeat themselves when they get excited. I posted a tornado video from Iowa in 2008 where storm chasers also yelled "we are in the tornado" (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/capitalweathergang/2008/06/we_are_in_the_tornado.html) although YouTube took the video down. I guess it's "the Giants win the pennant" phenomenon.

I can definately agree with the repeating due to excitedness issue. During a storm chase in AL a few years ago, we ended up way, way too close to a weak tornado due to limited visablity in the trees along the highway. I can definately confirm several of us loudly repeating ourselves, though we may have chosen more explicit phrases...

Did anyone else notice that at about the 50 second mark of that video a car comes shooting out of the tornado on the other side of the road? Some nut drove through the thing!

That's a little too close.
Watching this video was more more stimulating than a big cup of coffee.
Thank goodness only property damage reported.
Mr Meyers; thanks for taping & I'm glad your vehicle didn't get carried away to the land of Oz.
