Weather forecast delivered by toothpaste?

By Jason Samenow

Would you buy a toothpaste dispenser that alternated the flavor based on the weather? One day, you may be able to.

The Science of Dentistry blog reports MIT's Media Lab is developing a prototype product called "Tastes Like Rain". Here's how the Science of Dentistry says it works:

...toothpaste is modified to dispense one of three flavors depending on the weather. If it's mint, you know it's colder out than yesterday. Cinnamon means it's hotter. Blue stripes indicate precipitation.
The prototype is currently hooked up to a small Linux computer that pulls forecasts, using custom software to compare previous and current temperatures and divvy up the flavors.
Then, linear actuators squeeze out the proper variety of toothpaste through a heavily modded Mentadent dispenser.

The Science of Dentistry speculates the prototype could be adapted into a commercial version using a base unit (presumably with wifi) that would be plugged in or powered by battery.

As a guy who prefers a single flavor of toothpaste, not sure this invention is for me. What do you think of the idea?

I hope this is a joke.
Because if it isn't someone has way too much time & funding on their hands.

Would happily brush w/ Coldgate, because a taste of cold weather sometimes means snow.

It's sad to read someone grasping at model forecast straws.
