Winter storm warning issued for N & W suburbs

By Jason Samenow

Winter weather advisory for District S & E

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Montgomery, Howard, and Frederick counties in Maryland and Loudoun and northern Fauquier counties in Virginia from 7 a.m. this morning through 4 a.m. Thursday morning. It is forecasting 4-8 of snow in this area with the possibility of greater amounts in the higher terrain.

For the District and points south and east, the NWS has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 10 a.m. this morning through 4 a.m. Thursday morning. Locations in the advisory include all areas in the metro region not in the Winter Storm Warning. These are Fairfax, Prince William, southern Fauquier, and Stafford counties in Virginia and Prince George's, Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary's counties in Maryland. NWS is forecasting 3-5" of snow - mainly late this afternoon and this evening in this region.

The NWS accumulation forecast is very similar to the Capital Weather Gang's which indicates 4-8"+ in the Winter Storm Warning region and 3-6"+ in the Winter Weather Advisory region.

No school! Was kind of hoping to go today and get the rest of the week off. Sounds like we'll be out for the week, right?

It seems the NWS is playing this storm down for DC compared to last night!? When I went to bed everyone was saying 6 plus for DC.

How is Fairfax left out of the warning? It sounds like our forecast is for at least 5 inches.

Manassas is also out of the warning area...typical, it seems. Is this because we stay too warm?

Drive was not so bad to work this morning! Let's hope drive back home this afternoon would be the same. Somehow, I'm bracing myself for a two hour or more drive instead of my usual 40 mins.

Out here in the Wild West, that is, Hampshire County WV, just about an inch on the ground, expecting 4 to 6 or maybe 10 inches, depending on who you listen to and on your elevation. Schools closed. May be the first good snow we've had here this season. Out in the country as I am and surrounded by white, when we have a snow like this I always imagine a great white down comforter settling down around me. Okay, so I may be just one confused

so?...what's the story for the rest of the day and evening? looks like it's cleared up a bit in Olney, MD, melting, the roads look much clearer than early this morning!
I was shocked to see so MUCH on the roads so EARLY! Whoaa! The county road crews were NOT ready to deal with it so early, consequently, there were accidents everywhere!'s ok right at the moment..I'm about ready to go to Giant food to pick up some salt bags..maybe..and some! should I be picking up MORE? like bread and milk? how many inches would I expect by tomorrow morning?
I work for County Gov, and I am expected in at 7am in the morning DHHS, for a 1/2 day shift..what do you think?
