Friendly Skies for Clinton

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) may be trailing Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) in pledged delegates, states won and overall momentum, but she does appear to be winning in two categories -- legislating and courting the flight attendant vote.

As Clinton the candidate spent today wooing seniors at a Florida retirement home, Clinton the Senator was crowing about the House's passage of the catchily-named "Airline Flight Crew Technical Corrections Act." That would be a bill, sponsored by Clinton in the Senate and Rep. Tim Bishop (D-N.Y.) in the House, to ensure that flight attendants and pilots are covered by the benefits of the Family and Medical Leave Act. The measure passed the House Tuesday in a squeaker, 402-9, and awaits Senate action.

"The denial of leave is a very real hardship for flight attendants and pilots, who often spend several days in a row away from home and family," Clinton said in a statement issued by her still-busy Senate office.

Regardless of whether Clinton's sponsorship will help her win over the votes of flight crews across the land, her statement does remind Capitol Briefing that Clinton and Obama are in fact still Senators, not just parachuting in for high-profile votes but actually writing bills and all that other stuff we learned about on Schoolhouse Rock. Or at least, Clinton is.

Since the start of 2009, Clinton has been the original sponsor of 22 bills and another seven amendments to others' bills. Obama, by contrast, hasn't introduced a single bill this year, though he has sponsored nine amendments.

Of course, at least a few of Clinton's measures have been less-than-momentous, such as the one "recognizing Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater for 50 years of service to the performing arts." And she'd probably rather be leading in the nomination fight and losing on the legislative scorecard, rather than the reverse. But at least she won't feel out of practice if/when she has to return to the Senate full-time, flying back to D.C. on a plane staffed by grateful, smiling flight attendants.

From the headline, I figured this had to be news about Bill...

yes, good news about Hillary: finally.

the woman is not a lazy bones! she has been working while running.

Obama is giving a taste of what is to come if he's president:
nohting.

he has been missing in action, just caring about his dream to be a president.

what fking nerve to talk about "change".

Yes indeed...it is good news for Hillary. It's about time she courted somebody other than the closet KKKLAN set of Appalachia!

This woman reeks of poison for the nation. We can not endure 5 more minutes of her or her husband on the national scene of America. I truly doubt you will see New Yorkers send her back to Washington.

They know who the "real" Hillary is now...

Hillary outworks Obama about 3 to 1 on the campaign trail too. He's lucky he has all the corporate media like Washington Post serving up his campaign press releases as news and commentary. If he had to do it all on his own like Clinton, he would be exhausted and disoriented by now.

Hillary is the most qualified and the best candidate for president. Hillary has the experience, the knowledge, the capacity to work, and the compassion to be the best president Americans will ever have.
The problems that most of Obamas supporter hated the Clintons and also their love of power, make them not only they cannot see this but fabricate very bad things about the Clintions.
Hillary will work hard to solve the economic, security etc problems of Americans. She is the most hard working politician we have. She loves public service and I really believe that Democratics leaders especially the guys, the lady Senators who don't know her well (also are envious of her) and especially the Obamas media fans cannot accept her. But watch out because it is the working class Americans you are hurting. You deprive them of the best president they will ever have.

Save that line. When Hillary returns to the Senate in 2009, you will already have a lead for your story. By the way Ben, this is 2008 not 2009.

If Obama wins, I will hold my nose as I vote for him in November. . . . . . . But, I will never vote for anyone (ie, John McCain) who sold America down the river in 2004 by campaigning strongly for George Bush. By then even staunch Republican leaders with just half a level brain should have known that Bush was the worst thing possible for America.

As for Obama, I found his race baiting insulting. . . . . . Why he was shouting "race card" so fast and loud, I thought he was selling programs for NASCAR.

I have seen no evidence that Hillary's campaign ever played a race card. . . . . . Bill stating that Obama's comparison of little speech to a U.S. Senate vote as a fairytale, where the race card in that? But Obama's campaign sure jumped the gun on that one; hummm, just why were they so anxious to pull the trigger on such an accusation? . . . . . . . . Oh, and please, since when is being likened to Jessie Jackson a negative? unless you're a Republican!

NOW IF YOU WANT TO SEE a real race card, look at the "Call me" ad in the Tennessee senatorial election in 2006. . . . . Can anyone show anything even closely resembling that!!! . . . . of course not.

By constantly calling Hillary's campaign negative and racist, Obama did most of the negative campaigning.

Barack Obama has done nothing as Senator, the 13th ward is still a mess. He got a free ride from when he was a kid, to becoming a Senator, to now.
Hillary spent most of her life working for this.
Obama has never earned anything. He should have to earn it.

Barack Obama is Elmer Gantry. His style is to strut right in & steal the credits from true accomplishers,& call it his accomplishments, he will plaigarize words from original authors, & call them his own, He will steal Hillary Clinton's policies & ideas & call them his own, he will steal the thunder of people that suffered through the Civil Rights Movement, & even claim that he was there helping MLK,
until someone actually has the guts to tell him that was impossible, so then he will say he did not mean it like that.
He has never accomplished 1 thing. But thanks to Emil Jones Jr, the accomplishments of others who worked so hard for them, got stolen right out from under them & given to Barry Obama.

Obama is a big liar, hypocrite and egomaniac, who smoked crack, his
wife is a racist, his pastor, mentor
and close friend is a racist that gave a good person award to Louis Farrakhan and he spent 20 years in that church denying he knew what the Pastor preached, he was friends and did business for 17
years with Tony Rezko, a Syrian criminal slumlord (now in jail), who
caused poor
people to live in squalor on the south side of Chicago, & freeze
without heat in the dead of winter, but at first he denied this, and
said he knew him for 5 months..
Obama lied and said he did something about the Exelon nuclear dumping that contaminated the drinking water in Illinois.
He denies he received campaign funding from Saddam Hussein terrorist funder, Nadmi Auchi, he received campaign funding from Rashid Khalid, a Pakistani terrorist,
He has close ties to Edward Said--plagiarist, fabricator, and prominent PLO/Arafat advisor, Ali Abunimah, Palestinian activist and Islamist, and are among many other Middle Eastern terrorist supporters,
along with his ties with anti-american socialists, the Weathermen.
The GOP is just waiting to vet this guy. It is hard to believe that anyone thinks he is electable, with all this info at our fingertips
Why isn't the media talking about all of Barack Obama's scary friends who have ties to the worst people in history?
*Obama's first cousin and close friend, Raila Odinga, a terrorist, mass murderer, just became co-President of Kenya (after having 1,000 people killed with machetes and burning down a church full of children.
He also signed a secret pact with Muslim jihadists who were to ethnically cleanse people?
And why does Raila Odinga use Obama's exact same campaign slogan: CHANGE....Vote for CHANGE: Look at his website:

Would you support a white candidate that went to a white supremacy (KKK)church, for 20 years no less, and called a pastor like Tom Metzger or David Duke your mentor and spiritual advisor?

Get real Democrats. No amount of support from Hillary will move majority of White America to vote for Obama, should he be the nominee. Stop dreaming...Obama's "change we can believe in" is just McCain replacing Bush...It seems the Democrats love losing! They just don't get it. It should have been our time. So depressing to think about it.

It's a sad indictment of our News Media that they give so little weight to actual accomplishments of elected officials that help the American people. Yes, Hillary Clinton's work to obtain legal, educational, and healthcare services for those less fortunate for 35 years is well-documented. She answers media questions directly, rather than ducking them like Obama, then gets criticized as if she had been volunteering the ideas. Her speeches are inspirational and her love for this country and individual human lives everywhere is infectious. Only a dyed-in-the-wool bigot and sexist would demean and insult a US Senator who has worked so hard and achieved so much for so many, all of which is well-documented, admitted by her opponents, but dismissed as not important. Over 17 million Americans have voted to see her become President: men and women, young and old, all colors, religions, and ethnic backgrounds, rich and poor because we see through the biased media propaganda, egged on by the opportunists trying to promote their own selfish and bigoted agenda. The primaries are not over yet. Let's wait and see how the citizens of all 50 states vote. We're fighting for Hillary because she has already demonstrated that she will fight for the rights of all Americnas, not just a select group.

Hillary deserved to be President, she earned it, but Obama did nothing for the Party and our Country, he just show up said I am ready for President. His words are fake and copied from others, he didn't deserve this far, he is dreaming and his words are all empty promises. He betrayed Oprah? You can see what kind of person he is, we never let him move to the White House, he needs to stay in Illinois for practice. Nobama, Hillary for President.

The previous comments regarding Clinton's ability to to campaign and legislate at the same time just goes to show that (yes, I'll play the gender card here) working mothers know how to multitask!!! Obama was so exhausted, that he had to take a break in the Virgin Islands during the campaign. He hasn't held any meetings of the committee he chairs, although the mess in eastern Europe deserves our attention. He has little to show for his 8 years as a PART-TIME state senator, and nothing to show for his time in the US senate, other than showing up to claim credit for the work of his colleagues.
No, I won't vote for him. I'll WRITE IN CLINTON if she is not the nominee.
One other thing: the folks in Appalachia were asked if race played a role in their vote and they said, yes. That doesn't mean they are racist - it means that they find Obama's comments, inability to stand up to a racist preacher for 20 years, his wife's racist comments (read her thesis from college if you have any doubts), all show that for him, race is an excuse for not doing the work. It means that he does not share their values. Yes, race played a role - HIS unwillingness to accept that he is half white, his calling his white grandmother, "a typical white person," his playing the race card early and often, all show that race was extremely important in their decision. Obama's social work was exclusively in the black community (not that the work wasn't needed, but it was separatist). He is not a candidate for ALL Americans. And THAT is why he can't win Appalachia or other white, rural voters. He disowns, and disparages white America.
No to Obama. Yes to Hillary.

Obama actually introduced a bill the day this post was put up--and a substantial one, to improve the failing STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education system (S 3047). Good timing eh?

If we're honest though, it's quite reasonable that he's had a lack of legislation in '08 (though he had a number of substantive bills in '07--http://www.thomas.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/?&Db=d110&querybd=@FIELD(FLD003+@4((@1(Sen+Obama++Barack))+01763))). Given the traffic jam that just about every bill runs into in an election year, it strikes me as realistic that he would hold off on intro'ing bills. NOTHING will get through of any weight in this environment--for most any Dem., particularly him though, given his place as the likely nominee.

The aim is a working majority in Congress, which he will likely have after his equally likely election to President--that's when the real count will start, as far as how many initiatives get through.

Oh yes! How could it be any other way! The daintily inspired Mr. Obama is way too busy starring in the YouTube's Masterpiece:

'OBAMA GIVES HILLARY THE F*NGER" and spreading Hope through his adoring worshippers, when he isn't hugging $400-a-haircut fellow-Democrats to do any REAL WORK! Lazybones would much prefer to be in Hawaii drinking Kool-Aid and breathing in...the clean air...Which is what he will be probably doing...if ever the narcoleptic electorate walks to the voting booth without waking up first!

Work is a four-letter word for Obama. Too busy kissing Himself in the mirror. And voting like he did in Chicago. HIs was the ONLY vote to allow SEX SHOPS near Schools and Churches! Then the energetic young senator voted in favour of...Early Parole for Sex Offenders...

Hell, with a busy voting record like Barack's the country will eliminate unemployment 100%. Immigration to Canada up north (where Hillary's Universal Healthcare is a reality since 1965, and Women's Equal Rights are constitutionally entrenched) will be the most popular pastime in America! And Barack will be praying with Ahmadeinejad with his Couz Odinga, Pres. of Kenya--whom he helped elect! Odinga is a marxist-muslim "sweetie" of O bama's family tree who advocates (yes, you guesssed it!) SHARIA LAW and 'chastity provisions' and full cover under penalty of lashings for girls in Kenya!

Now, if Barack gets elected, where do we get the applications for IMMIGRATION TO CANADA?

Contrary to what has been posted here I am not supporting Obama because I hate the Clintons. In fact I voted for Bill twice. I defended him and Hillary long and loudly during the impeachment. I defended Hillary and supported her when she ran for the senate. I believe that overall she has been a good senator. But she has made some very bad mistakes that I can't overlook. She voted for the war in Iraq. This is not some trivial matter that can be dismissed as Clinton bashing. She voted to designate an Iranian military group as a terrorist organization when I feel Bush trying to gin up another war against Iran. She introduced a measure to make flag-burning unconstitutional, which I view as pandering to the right. When she was asked if Obama was a Muslim she replied, "No as far as I know." These are all huge issues to me and to a lot of voters. It isn't Clinton bashing to hold her responsible for her record. You make the case that Hillary is smart and experienced, she is also an incredibly hard worker. I entirely agree with you. I know that Hillary is tough and that she will fight to her last dying breathe. The problem is we don't really need a President right now who will fight. We have been fighting for the last 20 years. We need a President who can inspire the country and bring us together to make the changes we desperately need. I know you don't believe Obama can do that but we don't have much hope as a country if we can't find a leader who can. We can't continue to be torn apart the way we have been.

Memo - are you joking? Obama was the first African American editor of the Harvard Law Review. You think he accomplished this by being lazy? He is one of only 3 African Americans to ever be elected to the U.S. Senate. You think this shows how lazy he is. Even according to Hillary Clinton campaign advosers Obama has run one of the best campaigns in U.S. history. You think that was an accident. That he hasn't been working his butt off just like Hillary. I'm not a Hillary fan but I can see that she is hardworking and dedicated Are you so blinded by hatred that you can't see that Obama is also hardworking and dedicated This is ridiculous.
