GOP Leaders to Obama: We Have a (Stimulus) Plan
House Minority Leader John Boehner (Ohio), Whip Eric Cantor (Va.), Conference Chairman Mike Pence (Ind.), Policy Committee Chairman Thaddeus McCotter (Mich.), and Chief Deputy Whip Kevin McCarthy (Calif.) sent a letter to President Obama today, requesting that he sit down with them tomorrow to discuss new economic stimulus proposals.
Under Cantor's direction, the Republican Economic Recovery Working Group has considered advice from former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney , among others, and has formulated a plan to achieve nationwide economic recovery.
In their letter to Obama, the leaders explained, "The challenge as we see it is to create a plan that helps middle class taxpayers and small businesses without wasting money or exploding our national deficit. We believe the economic recovery plan should primarily create real, long term jobs, encourage entrepreneurs, and help average Americans keep more of their money to save and invest."
Reid to Franken: Let's Talk
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid meets with Al Franken this afternoon. Although the Minnesota Senate race in which Franken is engaged remains undecided, Reid is expected to discuss legislative business with the Democratic candidate.
Their meeting comes as a three-judge panel prepares for recount hearings on Monday, scheduled at the request of Franken's challenger, Sen. Norm Coleman, who contends that the statewide recount that gave Franken a 225-vote lead was inaccurate.
