Senate Dems Move to Capitalize on Obama's Speech

By Paul Kane
It took just an hour and a half for Senate Democrats to try to raise money from President Obama's presidential address Tuesday night.

Before midnight the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee sent out a fund-raising pitch to donors, declaring that liberal activists had been given "marching orders" by the new president.

J.B. Poersch, executive director of the DSCC, wrote to contributors that Republicans were gearing up to stop Obama's agenda.

"We cannot afford to let them get the jump on us," Poersch wrote in an e-mail.

The full pitch follows:

Our marching orders are clear.

President Obama is counting on us to win that 60th seat, so he can make his bold vision for this country last.

Now it's time for us to get going. Our chairman asked me to email you tonight because, starting now, we need each and every member of the DSCC's online community to contribute towards our goal. We're recruiting candidates and building seasoned campaign teams -- and we need your help.

Click here to make an immediate contribution of $5, or more to the DSCC. President Obama is counting on us to give him the Senate his bold vision requires.

I know for certain that the Republicans already have their 2010 operation in full swing. We cannot afford to let them get the jump on us. Make an investment in victory right now.
