I hope these both go through. One tangible thing we can do is contact our Congressional leaders and tell them to support the Lugar-Casey Global Food Security Act (S.384), which helps to bolster our nation's ability to respond quickly and effectively to global food shortages, and invests in long-term agricultural research with collaboration from the public, private and non-profit sectors in our country and developing ones.

The Borgen Project (www.borgenproject.org) has some interesting insight into addressing the issues of global poverty, something we can remedy easily and sustainably.

Some interesting figures to ponder:
$30 billion USD: The annual shortfall to end global poverty.
$550 billion USD: The annual US defense budget.
