Tauscher Stays On for Cap and Trade Vote

By Paul Kane
Most presidential appointees like to get a head start on the new job and get sworn-in immediately after winning Senate confirmation. Not Rep. Ellen Tauscher.

The California Democrat, confirmed unanimously last night by the Senate as undersecretary of State for arms control, will wait at least one more day to take her position. Instead, Tauscher is in the House today, where Democrats expect a razor-thin vote on climate change legislation and don't want to risk losing out on a single vote. Tauscher, a parliamentary expert, is in the presiding officer's chair this morning, overseeing the early portion of debate on the legislation, which is expected to be voted on late this afternoon.

Democrats are still optimistic that they will have enough votes to secure passage of the controversial legislation, but there's no sense in losing a vote. So, rather than starting her job refereeing arms disputes between, say, India and Pakistan, Tauscher this morning refereed debate between conservative Republicans who believe global warming is a hoax and liberal Democrats who, deep down, don't think this legislation goes far enough in capping greenhouse gas emissions.

Here's the list of other nominees who were confirmed by the Senate by unanimous consent last evening, before closing the doors until July 6, for a congressional recess:

Lawrence Strickling to be Assistant Secretary of Commerce
Mercedes Marquez to be Assistant Secretary of HUD
Robert Litt to be General Counsel for the DNI
Stephen Preston to be General Counsel for the CIA
Ellen Tauscher to be Undersecretary of State for Arms Control
Kurt Campbell to be Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian & Pacific Affairs
Julius Genachowski to be a Member of the FCC
Robert McDowell to be a Member of the FCC
Kathleen Martinez to be Assistant Secretary of Labor
Kathy Greenlee to be Assistant Secretary for Aging of HHS
Dennis McCarthy to be Assistant Secretary of Defense
Daniel M. Rooney to be Ambassador to Ireland

Obama and his accomplices are desperate to get their killing done before Americans realize what's happening!

No patriotic and informed American can support the global warming/cap and trade scam, a huge Ponzy scheme that will kill the U.S. economy.

Cap and Trade "would be the equivalent of an atomic bomb directed at the U.S. economy—all without any scientific justification," says famed climatologist Dr. S. Fred Singer. It would significantly increase taxes and the cost of energy, forcing many companies to close, thus increasing unemployment, poverty and dependence.

Cap and trade represents huge taxes and cost increases, which will hurt mostly the poor and the middle class while further empowering and enriching Obama and his fraudulent billionaire friends (Gore, Soros, Goldman Sachs, Obama’s Chicago Climate Exchange friends, GE, the United Nations, etc.)-- all at our expense and at the expense of our children and grandchildren.

There is NO global warming and CO2 is NOT a pollutant. More than 30,000 American scientists have signed onto a petition that states, "There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gases is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate."

Those brainwashed to the point of wanting to destroy the economy to "prevent global warming" are behaving like the most primitive human beings who were duped into believing that human sacrifices would ensure them good weather. Human beings don't have the power to control climate! And killing the economy will not help the environment. Poor countries can't protect the environment. Just look at Haiti!

Please keep in mind who is voting in favor of the abomination that is cap and trade. They'll have to answer to us for killing our businesses, taking away our jobs, and helping Obama enslave us with his Ponzy scheme.

Some of the other news stories today claim that consumer income and spending are up because up the stimulus. Economists point out income is up because of direct stimulus input, but that it will not be sustained. Of course, spending is up; energy costs are up - particularly gasoline which affects the consumer directly for fuel and indirectly as a cost associated with manufacturing and transportation of goods. Excessive energy costs are as insidious and as much an economic drag as the most regressive tax; the economy suffers with rising energy costs. Higher energy costs rob consumers of disposable income that could have been spent or saved more effectively rather than to fuel speculation, unproven environmentalism, and hidden taxes. This bill (cap and trade) is a tax; it is another mechanism for speculation (trading); it is an economy killer (increase manufacturing costs equal loss of jobs to foreign markets); it is unnecessary (climate change is a natural phenomenon - man is primarily along for the ride); and it is sponsored by a coalition of fools and profiteers. It will ultimately have the opposite environmental effect because the loss of jobs powered by relatively clean energy production in this country will spur jobs in locations such as China which are powered by very dirty energy production.

Reps. Earwax and Marlaky! Would you buy a used Yugo from these chronologically challenged lummoxes? Cap and tax is a Ponzi scheme promulgated by the Boy King in the Oval Office. While Iran is murdering its citizens and North Korean threatens to launch a missile towards Hawaii, this troll is busy finding ways to tax the American people by using bogus science pandered by Al Gore, the king of medicine men and snake oil merchants. Incidentally, Pelosi holds extensive shares in Global Fuels, a company that will profit from this cap and tax scam. Gore is also heavily invested in similar ventures, and both still use private jets as they globetrot.

Yes Obama and Dems, cripple our industry and hinder it in every way possible. Good job by the way so far on fixing the recession. Looks like you just pissed away billions of dollars with nothing to show for it. I really wish my taxes didn't go to waste like that. Oh well, when our economy is in the toilet, I can proudly say, "NOT MY PRESIDENT."

The price we pay for an emasculated minority party is a rubber stamp Congress. If the GOP wants to stop bills like this monstrous cap and trade energy tax, they better stop listening to political pariahs like Limbaugh and Hannity and try to enlist some more moderates to the party and try to regain control of their zippers.

The petition is a hoax. It's the only way vested interests have of opposing the science of global climate change. The petition was not based on a review of the science, nor were its signers experts in the field. In fact, the only criterion for signing the petition was a bachelor's degree in science.

No shock here....Obama has peeled away another moderate Dem in Ellen Tauscher, a congressperson who often opposes his policies. Hopefully her district will stay smart and replace her with another moderate dem, or better yet a republican!

Fred Singer? He's been on the Exxon payroll for years. Are you too, or just incapable of recognizing an industry lobby campaign?

The only Hoax that's been going on is Conservative Republicans pretention to Public Service while grabbing as much Dirty Coal money as they can while giving the Coal and Oil industries carte blanche to pollute the environment and rack up everyone's health care needs.

We the veterans who have served our country with blood reject the Oil and Coal Lobbyists twisted vision for America’s future. We will create a better future with clear air and water, with polluters paying for their environmental and health damages, and for Industries creating Millions of sustainable Jobs for American Workers and returning Veterans who put their Lives on the line every day for our country, all while making us Globally competitive in Renewable Energy and efficiency technologies.

The Coal Pollution Supporters and obstructionists here are transparent in their attempts to undermine our country and unity. Veterans who serve our country with blood deserve better. You want the USA to live on Sand piles built on Coal, fossil fuels, Credit default swaps with high risk, and ignorance. A better future is built on Renewable Energy, conserving fresh water, education, and Green Energy Jobs; all of which are opposed by Coal, Oil, and Tobacco lobbyists here who serve as mouthpieces for the worst elements of our country. The light is on you and you've been outed. The rest of the country will fight and thrive with or without you, and in spite of you, for a better future for generations to come.

The basic problem with Republicans is that they don't want the the government to be run like a business--they want the government to be run BY BIG BUSINESS!

The basic problem with Democrats is that they can't admit that their congressmen are just as steeped in the pockets of Big Business.

Ok where do we get a list of the other Spendocrats that voted for another 1200 page bill without reading it? We need to vote all them out of office. How do we get a list of those that voted for this bill today anyone have a link?

Cap-and-trade, the ENRON of the Full-employment act for China and India.

Gee, what could possibly go wrong having companies buy and sell emissions? I imagine a new company, say ACORN EMISSION, Inc. that gets billions in allotments, then sells it to companies. Heck, voter fraud training isn't cheap.

China and India are just so happy with the democrats today. China canceled another stimulus plan because this boondoggle will probably pass.

Can anyone tell me why Obama gets away with using Spain as an example of "green jobs" when their unemployment has quadrupled since they passed their legislation -- Spain's unemployment rate is now 18%!!

The US Congress --

Obama's Vain,
Congress a Stain,
No Brain!
It is Plain
Would Drain
Cause Pain
No Job Gain
Just Like Spain.

It is Plain
The Pain
Will fall Mainly
(like Spain)
on the Middle Class.

Thank you, mrabrams, for demonstrating how Obama and his accomplices use Alinsky’s rules to defame and demonize anyone defending the country from Obama’s evil schemes.

Obama and his accomplices have worked hard to defame the 31,000 scientists signing the petition that debunks the man-made global warming theory.

Mark Jeric, one of the PHDs who signed the petition explained, “Our enviro-nazis tried to sabotage this effort (the Petition) by submitting phony names with phony degrees - and then claimed the whole effort by the Petition scientists was a fraud. It took us 3 years and a lot of private money to verify the credentials of all the signatories and clean up the Petition of those saboteurs.”

Obama and his accomplices have also used Alinsky's strategies to defame the most honorable and distinguished U.S. scientists, among them Dr. S. Fred Singer.

Dr. Singer, an atmospheric and space physicist, is one of the world’s most respected and widely published experts on climate.

Dr. Singer served as professor of environmental sciences at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA (1971-94); distinguished research professor at the Institute for Space Science and Technology, Gainesville, FL (1989-94); chief scientist, U.S. Department of Transportation (1987-89); vice chairman of the National Advisory Committee for Oceans and Atmosphere (NACOA) (1981-86); deputy assistant administrator for policy, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (1970-71); deputy assistant secretary for water quality and research, U.S. Department of the Interior (1967-70); founding dean of the School of Environmental and Planetary Sciences, University of Miami (1964-67); first director of the National Weather Satellite Service (1962-64); and director of the Center for Atmospheric and Space Physics, University of Maryland (1953-62).

Dr. Singer did his undergraduate work in electrical engineering at Ohio State University and holds a Ph.D. in physics from Princeton University.

Dr. Singer has published more than 200 technical papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals, including EOS: Transactions of the AGU, Journal of Meteorology and Atmospheric Physics, Science, Nature, Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society, Geophysical Research Letters, and International Journal of Climatology.

His editorial essays and articles have appeared in Cosmos, The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, New Republic, Newsweek, Journal of Commerce, Washington Times, Washington Post, and many other publications. His accomplishments have been featured in front-cover stories appearing in Time, Life, and U.S. News & World Report.

As you can see, Dr. S. Fred Singer is one of America's most distinguished scientists. He deserves our profound gratitude for having had the courage to state his beliefs, knowing that he would be attacked.

The oil and gas companies don't have the funds or the power to defend themselves from Obama's increasingly dictatorial powers and funds, and the funds of his billionaire friends -- Gore, Soros, Goldman Sachs, Obama’s Chicago Climate Exchange friends, GE, the United Nations, etc.

Posted by: AntonioSosa | June 26, 2009 5:19 PM | Report abuse

liveride, all informed veterans I know disagree with you. They don't believe in fairy tales. They know that man-made global warming is a HOAX, CO2 is NOT a pollutant, and the earth's climate has always changed and will continue to change no matter what we do.

They know that Obama and his fraudulent friends -- Gore, Soros, Goldman Sachs, Obama’s Chicago Climate Exchange friends, GE, the United Nations, etc. -- have been promoting this hoax to further empower and enrich themselves at our expense and at the expense of our children and grandchildren.

They have been doing what they can to save our country from Obama's criminal cap and trade hoax.

I don't see how a tax of this magnitude oculd not negatively impact every poor and middle class American. I hope I'm wrong. There is no proof that humans cause global warming or that we can change it, yet, we are willing to destroy our economy to make no negligable difference as China builds coal plants. If it is true that Pelosi, Markey, Gore, GE are going to make big bucks from this, I imagine there will be a backlash.

I am morally opposed to taxing the air we exhale. What next?

JoeNTx, Looks like you have plenty of hot air yourself, since you had to post your "clever" comments twice.
Hey, "dude," don't worry about American jobs, our economy or the epic failure of the "green" policies in Spain = double-digit unemployment.
Sure..yeah.. no problem; we can absorb all of the additional taxes and surcharges to run our households.
Just keep believing "The Messiah" in DC and don't worry about a thing! everything is just fine, brother.
Now, head on back to your Perez Hilton blog.

Cap & Trade is Obama's feather in the cap. The tax benefit to government is virtualy unmeasurable (allowing his administration to continue their spending spree unchecked) AND, the USA throws a major bone to China, who will prosper greatly from this legislation, as a "thank you" for your continued support of our outrageous national debt. Essentialy saying, "look, we know your trillion dollars of US reserves is declining rapidly but don't worry we'll cover you, just look how we covered your malinvestment in Freddie and Fannie".

We are very near the point of no return.

It's time for another national tea party! Every republican that voted for this cap and trade should be voted out in 2010. Time to take back our country. God bless America and bring it back to its' former glory.
