Waxman Hospitalized for 'Routine Testing'

Updated 7:08 p.m.
By Paul Kane
Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-Calif.) was admitted to a Los Angeles hospital last night after fainting, according to his office.

"Yesterday, Chairman Waxman did not feel well and fainted in his office. He is undergoing evaluation at Cedars-Sinai [Medical Center]. He is feeling fine today and is in good spirits," Waxman's office said this afternoon in a statement.

Waxman, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, had just ushered a historic climate change legislation to a narrow victory Friday.

Waxman, 69, is midway through one of the most grueling summers of legislative battle in recent memory. First, he crafted the climate change bill, which is the first national effort at curbing greenhouse gas emissions, and he's next slated to be one of the lead engineers of the House's health-care legislation that aims to insure all Americans. Elected in 1974, Waxman took over the commerce panel after ousting the longtime chairman, Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.), in an internal leadership election last fall.

Congressman Earwax is merely overworked from sitting on his behind at all those committee meetings!

Poor Henry. He probably read his cap and tax bill for the first time, realized what an abortion it was, and had a stroke.

if only he would go to sleep and stay like that...

someone should give him the "public plan" option liberals tout and see how he likes it now that he needs healthcare.

I wish him a speedy recovery -- feel better, get some rest...

send him to the UK for treatment, i'm sure they would initially explore those 747 size nostrils where it appears he does all of his thinking

Some people in here have no shame. They can not put politics aside and wish someone well, republicans are really disturbed.

FYI, Members of Congress DO have the public plan. So do Medicare recipients. Don't you folks read ? One "public option" is to include all those who are currently not insured with the same plan Congress and federal employees have.

At his age he should consider retirement. Mr. Waxman seems to be concerned with issues he has little or no control over, namely climate, and health.

It should be noted that his own health issues aren't being resolved by any of his legislation. Sen. Waxman's health care, being far superior to ours, doesn't seem to be all that good either. ;)

It's amazing how rightwingers have nothing but nasty things to say about a sick man.

I am an ashamed Republican right now. But I still wish Henry the best. Having come from California, and now Florida, I have a tremendous respect for what he has TRIED to do. Diligent and hardworking. If they were all like that, we might be getting somewhere.

It's a reminder that all of our hopes and policies always rest on very human shoulders. Given all that he's undertaken, it's hard not to believe that he hasn't been pushing himself too hard. I hope Representative Waxman gets some rest and a real break from work and comes back refreshed and ready. We need him!

Is he getting a nose job while he's there?

It's always a treat to hear from the Republican failures who helped put this country in a tailspin criticize people like Waxman who are trying to keep it from crashing.
Republican ideas have failed, Republican representatives have failed and those who voted for them have personally failed by doing so.
Sit down, shut up and let the grownups run things for a change.

I'm sure during the examination the doctors will discover that Waxman is actually an alien from some far planet.

give me a break, waxman is the poster boy for all that is wrong with politics.
the best thing he could do for this country,is take a dirt nap.
the state of california is in bad shape because waxman keeps getting voted back. he and pelosi, and the rest of the political crapoids from that state will eventually with help from dodd, rangel franks, spector, and others, bring this country to the same place.

p s by the way,i am not ashamed to call a duck a duck, and if that duck is tearing down the country i love,i will call it a piece of crap duck. so dont go getting all self rightious with me,cause i do not care if waxman wakes up tomorrow or not. it is not a republican thing,or a democrat thing. either you love your country,or you dont. you care about the future of our children or you dont.
