Lieberman: Committee investigation of Fort Hood to go forward

By John Amick

The Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs will seek to move forward on an investigation surrounding the mass shooting Thursday at Fort Hood Army base in Texas, Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman (I-Conn.), the committee's chairman, said today.

The chairman said the scope of the probe would address the motives of the alleged shooter Army Maj. Nidal M. Hasan and whether signs of "Islamic extremism" were apparent, but missed or ignored.

"It's premature to reach conclusions about what motivated Hasan," Lieberman said on "Fox News Sunday" this morning. "But it's clear that he was, one, under personal stress and, two, if the reports that we're receiving of various statements he made, acts he took, are valid, he had turned to Islamist extremism."

Lieberman said if the shootings were fueled by such viewpoints it was the worst act of terrorism in America since the attacks of September 11, 2001.

"Therefore, if that is true, the murder of these 13 people was a terrorist act and, in fact, it was the most destructive terrorist act to be committed on American soil since 9/11."

The committee's investigation would work in collusion with any federal investigation by the Army or FBI, Lieberman said.

Considering Lieberman's interest in filibustering Congress' Health Care bill that was passed last night, can someone tell me why the Democrats would allow the little twit to Chair one of the most influential Committees in the Senate?

No matter your grievances the worst thing you can ever do is to take one of your own. There is no rationale for that. If you are not happy with the United States policies then quietly leave the country. You cannot call this country evil when you were trained by the country and have been eating from provisions made by the country. No matter your political or religious beliefs there is no justification for killing people you identified with. The actions of a spy can be justified but the actions of a soldier who deliberately killed his own comrades cannot be comprehended. This is simply an act of cowardice and does not prove any point rather it makes the perpetrator an ingrate. Nobody will condone this type of action and individuals and organizations will always be afraid of this individual because you can never be sure where his loyalty lies. Let nobody be deceived by this cowardly act to believe that this guy is on their side for his acts has shown that he can betray anybody anytime in any situation. My heart goes out to the families who lost loved ones. May the souls of the victims rest in peace.

Go ahead and investigate this tragedy, but Lieberman's focus should also be on the 40,000 deaths in the U.S. that occur each year under the title of "medical error" that don't make it to the front page, but involve the poor and uninsured, the same people comprising the military. Shouldn't his time be spent on whether any of these number of American deaths are deliberate? Wouldn't that be considered domestic terrorism? Does he believe in the concept of "crimminal disregard?" How does Lieberman pick and choose investigations?

By focusing on the "terrorism" aspect of this, the real issue at hand( mental stress on troops and the exponential rise in suicides ) will once again be ignored.
The fact is ,to fight all these wars the US need a draft law, period.Otherwise just end this madness before we have a lot more of these acts of carnage. What if his name was John Smith?

He should also investigate "Obama's Frightening Insensitivity Following Shooting," according to NBC Chicago.

Do we have a closet Muslim in the White House?

The shooter is a traitor. He took down his fellow soldiers and he should get the death sentence for killing people on Government property. But I see Lieberman involvement in this because he is a Conservative Jew and the killer is a Muslem.

Liberman is a traitor to the democrats and Harry Reid is so gutless he won't take the HLS chairmanship away from him which he never should have been given in the first place. The democrats would be much stronger if they replace Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid the two weakest leaders of the party in history. How they ever got to be the leaders of the party is a mystery to me

Good news and bad news.

First the good. An Army spokesman has stated 'this is the work of a single gunman'.

Bad news. There are 1.5 billion people who currently hold to the same ideology that Hasan does...............

You can put this in the bank - there are already people in positions of authority who will have received a 'quiet word' that this incident is seen as the stress related, victimized, orphaned soldier (did he ever soldier?) who just flipped momentarily due to the army's total uncaring and bullying treatment over his faith and ethnicity.

In fact I can already smell litigation by his family against the US Army over this.

Don't laugh, we live in a different world since Sept 11th. A world that grovels, scrapes, fawns and sleeps with the enemy of it's own culture, society, politics and freedoms.

Sorry but it's true. You always reap what you sow. Always.

Why would anybody let that nasty little weasal Lieberman (R-Israel) chair anything? Of course he's going to find some vast Muslim conspiracy: OYPAC has to get something for its contributions.

To quote Mister Rogers: "Can you say scum-sucking pig, boys and girls?"

No one should be deceived by Lieberman's probe which is nothing more than an egregious attempt to promote fear of Islam and Arabs! Simply stated, Lieberman is an Israeli quisling who has been solely dedicated to perpetuating US military occupation of Arab states and Israel's complete annexation of the West Bank!

One investigation which should be done by Congress and FBI is Lieberman's nefarious relationship with the Israeli government!

This disgusting Zionist yard-gnome never fails to amaze me. Send the traitor packing back to his home state of Israel. I bet he loves will help him push his Israel-First agenda. I have to wonder what the voters in Conneticut were thinking, re-electing this arrogant, treasonous, little scumbag that could give a rats behind about Conneticut or America, for that matter.

If major hasan had been thinking ahead, he'd have started an insurance company and big joe would be his lawyer today.

Common definitions of terrorism refer only to those violent acts which are intended to create fear (terror), are perpetrated for an ideological goal (as opposed to a lone attack), and deliberately target or disregard the safety of non-combatants.
Joe are you afraid or are you trying to induce fear yourself?

Hmm. I don't seem to recall Lieberman and Congress getting involved in the Virginia Tech shooting aftermath when the CHRISTIAN Mr. Cho shot up TWICE as many people - after making remarks implying he was doing it for Jesus.

And of course, the media didn't get into its full OCD mode over Cho's apparently VIOLENT EXTREMIST RELIGION.

And when a Mr. Rodriquez shot up his former employer's office in Florida the very same day as Hasan's horrific rampage, we were not even informed as to what his religion is. CATHOLIC, I presume? I WANT TO KNOW. IT IS *SO* IMPORTANT THAT WE TALK ABOUT MR. RODRIQUEZ' RELIGION. HOW WILL WE KNOW WHO TO HATE IF YOU DON'T TELL US, WASHINGTON POST?

Muslim baiting sells, and our dying newspapers need every dime they can get their little amoral hands on, eh?

When a whacked out officer shoots 12 of his comrades (as we saw over and over in Vietnam), Lieberman glibly calls it "terrorism".

But when an oil man president sends 4,000 soldiers to their deaths to help gain new crude oil lands for his big campaign donors and honor the paranoias of Israel, Lieberman straight-faced calls it "defending our homeland".

Lieberman is a shameless, cynical traitor to the United States of America. His loyalties lie elsewhere, but the media is too cowardly to admit it.

The 'esteemed' Senator should at the least be required to register as a foreign agent representing the sovereign state interests of Israel. (Not that there is anything wrong with that - just register, already!)

I dislike Lieberman as much as the next person and I agree that he is not the most ideal face to be chairing a committee on Islamic Fundamentalism (Webb would be better) But don't let your dislike of Joe Loserman wash Hasan in the water of innocence. There are 2 bits of hard evidence that Hasan had gone over to a radical salafist reading of the Koran (the same view as Al-Qaeda, Taliban, much of Saudi Arabia)and he acted on it. He picked his moment to wage lesser jihad and in doing so he became a traitor to the USA and should endure a traitors death. It also speaks to the need to monitor the Muslim community in America for Salafist tendencies. To be fair, the American Muslim community has been doing a good job screening for radicalism and reporting it to local authorities; what amazes me here is the Army's failure to screen the guy.

As hard as it sounds to the politically correct and generally wrong set it is time to think about removing Muslims from the military. At the very least they need to all be re-vetted and removed from all sensitve or vulnerable areas. There is a problem and it is not being addressed.
This was a terrorist attack.

What Major Hasan did is dispecable whether he is a Muslim, Christian, Jew, agnostic, or atheist. Lieberman has appointed himself as the advocate for those who were killed and wounded at Fort Hood. I wonder where his compassion lies in relation to the persons who are sick and dying because they do not have health insurance. His latest rationale on the Healthcare Bill is that it is too expensive. That shows where his heart rely lies. Money, in his view, is more important than human beings. There is a very hot place being prepared for those who neglect the needs of the least of our brothers and sisters and it is everlasting.

A Muslim terrorist attacks and kill American soldiers and people are man at Lieberman. This is the mind set of fools.

Political correctness runs amok. This killer will never receive justice because in this pollyanna atmosphere, he will be made a victim. Who can expect otherwise considering how our own President and his Director of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, actually made two appointments of devout Muslims to high level posts in the Dept. Of Homeland Security, one is Kareem Shora, a Syrian born Muslim and another is Arif Alikhan, a homegrown devout Muslim. This was done in the dark of night. Doesn't it make us all feel safer??? I believe Obama is the Manchurian Candidate who cannot overcome his Muslim indoctrination. He is not working for the American people. He is working to destroy our country with his policies, his lurch to the left, his coddling of enemy leaders who hate us while snubbing our allies. When will Americans wake up? Soon, I hope. You will soon see the media attacking Joe Lieberman for wanting to investigate Malik Hasan's Muslim background, his connections, etc. The next thing we'll hear is anti-Semitic comments coming from the left. What a sick world we have to deal with. We have to get rid of this leftist administration asap before they do irreversible damage to our nation and to the hard-working taxpaying Americans who are being asked to give all to those who don't work and live on the dole, the entitlement mentality folks.

Posted by: mvpeach | November 9, 2009 12:54 PM | Report abuse

In reading the posts, it's evident to me that the movement to excuse Hasan is already in place. And, as a corollary, Lieberman is now the bad guy. What kind of crazy mentality has taken hold in this country? This bastard Hasan kills and wounds over 50 American soldiers and the kooks are already out there plotting his defense. Are there some who still have a working brain untainted by the political correctness propaganda? You need to speak out before this killer is allowed to plead out based on some ridiculous psychobabble.

Joe Lieberman was an embarrassment to our state (Connecticut) well before this tragedy happened. He has decided to jump on this side of the fence this time as he thinks it will be to his political advantage. It has nothing to do with doing right...Joe, as always, is only about Joe. We certainly will insist that he lose his chairmanship of Homeland Security as he has for all intents and purposed joined the Republican Party of No. No Brain, No Thoughts, No Morals...

The committee's investigation would work in collusion with any federal investigation by the Army or FBI, Lieberman said.

COLLUSION? Is this a direct quote?

Thank You Joe Liebermann!!!

We certainly weren't going to get any leadership from the President or Napalitano. He's too busy with his shout outs and she is too busy making sure the American citizens don't hurt the Muslims.

And correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it a little more than hypocritical to point out Liebermans RELIGION while trying to deny Hasan's?

This truly is a liberal bizarro world we live in.
