Mid-Week Football Notes
- With Jameel Sewell at quarterback, questions remain about what Coach Al Groh will do with Vic Hall when Hall returns from a hip injury. Groh has not provided much indication because Hall is still injured, so he still has time. But once Hall receives a clearance to play, Groh will have a difficult decision at hand.
"At the present time, we don't have any options with him," Groh said. "Our thought throughout, as I have expressed, Vic offers so much to the team that we hope at the conclusion of every game, Vic be tired and dirty."
- Southern Miss Coach Larry Fedora asked the NCAA to review a hit by Virginia cornerback Chase Minnifield on receiver Johdrick Morris.
"I don't think there's any doubt that the guy left his feet," Fedora said of Minnifield, according to this story in the Clarion Ledger. "I don't think there's any doubt he led with his head. I don't think there's any doubt he hit a defenseless player above the shoulder area. We'll see what they say. There's supposed to be a big push on protecting a defenseless player."
- Bob Kowalkowski, a star offensive tackle for Virginia in the 1960s, died at age 65 in the Detroit area.
Kowalkowski played with the Lions, Cleveland Browns and Green Bay Packers during his NFL career. Read here for more information.
