Football: Coaching staff update

As someone associated with Virginia's athletic department kindly reminded me yesterday, it takes time to hire someone at a public university. The NFL regular season ended Sunday, which makes it difficult to officially hire assistant coaches within the time frame some expected.

With that said, Miami Dolphins linebackers coach (and former Massachusetts, Richmond and VMI head coach) Jim Reid is expected to be named the Cavaliers' defensive coordinator. Reid would join a staff that already officially includes five other assistants:

- Mike Faragalli
- Chip West
- Vincent Brown
- Jeff Hanson
- Anthony Poindexter

The latter four are all expected to coach on the defensive side, which will be coordinated by Reid. That means Virginia can hire three more coaches to join Faragalli on the offensive side of the ball.
