Virginia football to scrimmage in Norfolk on March 27
Here's further evidence of how serious Mike London is about restoring the Virginia name in the Tidewater region: The Cavaliers will scrimmage on March 27 at Old Dominion University. It will be open to fans and provides an opportunity to meet the coaches and players after the scrimmage.
"I wanted to find out if it was OK NCAA-wise, and it was; it was approved," London said. "I think part of it is -- and in the future we want to do things throughout the state like this -- but [ODU Coach] Bobby Wilder and I are friends. Obviously, the Tidewater area is very important to us in terms of recruiting and being visible down there. Just the opportunity presented itself. I said, 'one day I'd like to go down there and have a practice in your facility, have a clinic there for the high school coaches.' I think it be good for recruiting, be good to revitalize and energize our fan base. And for ODU, I'm sure it's a win-win for them, also. They'll practice right after we practice.
"The genesis out of all this, like the genesis of the VAF functions, was to get out there, was to be accessible, be available. Get out in front of people. Hopefully, next year and the year after that, there are opportunities to go somewhere else in the state."
