Injury update on Dowling, McLeod

Virginia Coach Mike London said Monday that senior cornerback Ras-I Dowling (hamstring) and junior strong safety Rodney McLeod (knee) returned to practice last week and are "moving around here pretty good."

As for the pair's playing status for Saturday's contest against Virginia Military Institute, London said he would have a better indication after Tuesday's practice. The team, per usual, had Monday off.

"I'm looking forward to it," London said. "But like I said, they know their bodies better than I do, and with consultation with the trainers, we'll see what they look like, see if they can be effective. Not just go out there for the sake of being out there, but to be effective."

Typically starters, Dowling and McLeod sat out the team's first two games of the season. On the depth chart Virginia released Monday, Dowling was listed as interchangeable with sophomore Devin Wallace at one of the starting cornerback spots.

McLeod was listed as interchangeable at the starting strong safety spot with senior Trey Womack and junior Dom Joseph. Womack has started the past two games in McLeod's absence.
