Cavs respond quickly to VMI touchdown

With 2 minutes, 35 seconds remaining in the first quarter, VMI quarterback Cam Jones found a wide-open Robbie White in the end zone for a one-yard touchdown pass to tie the score, 7-7. It was a rough defensive drive for the Cavaliers. Senior cornerback Ras-I Dowling made his season debut, and the Keydets went right at him on his first play in the game. Jones completed a 36-yard pass to T.J. Talley with Dowling trailing in coverage.

But the Cavaliers recovered quickly. Fifth-year senior tailback Raynard Horne returned the ensuing kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown. It was Virginia's first kickoff return for a touchdown since 2004.

With 2:23 remaining in the first quarter: Virginia 14, VMI 7
