Dowling, Horne, Minnifield listed as questionable for Duke game
Senior cornerback Ras-I Dowling, fifth-year senior tailback Raynard Horne and junior cornerback Chase Minnifield were listed as questionable on an injury report released by the Virginia football team Thursday night. Each player's injury was listed as "lower extremity," which is about as vague* as it gets.
* In previous weeks when Virginia was preparing to play conference opponents, the team's injury reports were slightly more detailed. If a player had a knee injury, the team would list it as a knee injury. If it was a bothersome ankle, the team would describe it as such. And so on. But this week, Virginia is playing Duke, whose own injury report -- released earlier Thursday -- was equally vague. The Blue Devils listed players as having "upper body" and "lower body" injuries. Apparently, the Cavaliers felt the need to return the favor.
Dowling -- a two-time second team all-ACC performer -- has sat out all but three plays of the past three games with a right knee injury. Horne leads the Atlantic Coast Conference in average kickoff return yardage (26.7). Minnifield is tied for No. 1 in the nation with six interceptions this season.
Here's the full injury report:
Out -- sophomore wide receiver Tim Smith (ankle), senior tight end Joe Torchia (shoulder)
Questionable -- senior cornerback Ras-I Dowling (lower extremity), fifth-year senior tailback Raynard Horne (lower extremity), junior cornerback Chase Minnifield (lower extremity)
Probable -- fifth-year senior tailback Keith Payne (lower extremity)
For those of you who are interested, here is Duke's full injury report:
Out -- safety Quan Stevenson (lower body), running back Josh Snead (lower body), tight end Brett Huffman (lower body), offensive guard Brandon Harper (lower body)
Doubtful -- wide receiver Austin Kelly (head)
Questionable -- center Bryan Morgan (upper body)
Probable -- offensive guard Dave Harding (head), nose guard Charlie Hatcher (upper body), offensive guard Brian Moore (lower body), cornerback Johnny Williams (upper body)
