Cruisin' for a Bruisin'?

Spreading the Cruise gospel in Aberdeen, Wash. (AP) I've been wondering about our old friend Tom Cruise lately, kind of hoping he'd step in it again do something newsworthy, so we could re-focus our attention on yet another facet of his mania quirky personality. No such luck, though. Since his whirlwind world tour to promote the opening of "Mission:Impossible 3", news from the Cruise camp has slowed to a trickle. Did he step out of the spotlight to spend time with Katie and baby Suri or has the press given him a pass in favor of Brangelina and their new bundle? In my quest for Cruise news, I came across an excellent piece about exactly the same thing posted Wednesday at Slate. Since I can't say it any better (and probably would do much worse), I post an excerpt and a link to the full text of Kim Masters'...

Forget Paris (And Nicole)

On Sunday, the new season of the Paris Hilton/Nicole Richie ditz-fest, "The Simple Life: Till Death Do Us Part" premiered on E! Not wanting to miss the season finale of "The Sopranos," I dutifully recorded it. I watched it last night. (AP/E! Networks) I loathe both Paris and Nicole and my threshold for watching them and actually having to listen to them talk is about four minutes. I somehow made it through about nine minutes of this show before deleting it from my DVR and gouging out my eyes. It was the equivalent of holding my breath underwater for nine minutes. In which case, eat my shorts David Blaine. The fact that Hilton and Richie are even still doing the show together -- despite a very public, long-running feud -- is suspect. Particularly since they don't address the source of the falling out. The only reference to their animosity is...

The Best Scare Fare

Let's take a break from celebrity gossip today to discuss something really important. In case you hadn't realized, today is in fact the number of the beast. My name is little creep boy. (AP/20th Century Fox) I'm not the only one sacrilegiously calling attention to the fact -- the day has been proclaimed the "National Day of Slayer" (though neither washingtonpost.com nor Celebritology endorse any of the suggested festivities) and 20th Century Fox has cleverly chosen today to open the Liev Shreiber/Julia Stiles remake of "The Omen." (There are also plenty of innocuous non-Lucifer-related associations with June 6, as well. For instance, National Yo-Yo day). Sure, "666" and horror films are the stuff that idiotic urban legends and a gazillion conspiracy theories are made of, but hey, who doesn't appreciate a good scary movie from time to time? Okay, I can name at least five people in my circle of...

Is Britney K-Fed Up?

The Spears-Federlines in February. Peace indeed. (AP) What was once a trickle of reports about trouble in paradise is turning into a full-on geyser. The paradise in question would be Britney Spears' 21-month marriage to her babies' daddy, Kevin Federline (K-Fed). Although glimpses into their conjugal bliss have always been a bit freaky (remember the People magazine report about their wedding eve "date" complete with soundtrack by Phil Collins?), increasing reports of a growing rift between the two are picking up steam. A Rough 2006 Timeline: - Feb. 7: Britney drives with baby Sean Preston on her lap. - April 1: Sean Preston falls out of high chair, the Spears-Federline household gets a visit from Social Services. - April 21: Britney is conspicuously absent from K-Fed's Vegas rap album "listening party." - May 14: Britney speeds away from home on Mother's Day, Sean Preston incorrectly strapped in a forward-facing...
