A "View" I Could Do Without

If we weren't already in the midst of a very important vote here at Celebritology, I'd be tempted to offer another poll asking the burning questions arising out of all this Star Jones Reynolds/"View" fallout: Who cares? Who watches "The View?" And can the rest of this shrewish coven go away along with Jones Reynolds? The "View" crew in happier days -- February. (AP) To quickly recap for those of you lucky enough to have missed this: In April, Meredith Vieira announces she's leaving "The View" to co-host NBC's "Today." Soon after, ABC announces Rosie O'Donnell will take over Vieira's empty chair on "The View." Rumor has it Rosie wants Star gone by the time she arrives in September. Executive producer Barbara Walters denies this or any other changes to the lineup and the morning gabfest returns to normal (or as normal as it can be considering the show's inane...

Inaugural Celebritology Honors: Polls Open

Welcome to the first observance of what we here at Celebritology (and when I say "we" I mean "me") hope will be a yearly event: The Celebritology Honors, AKA The Lizzies. Although there's no red carpet, no paparazzi and, sadly, no Harry Winston jewels for your hostess, I can offer you the opportunity to pick the winners losers in the three categories chosen by Celebritology readers last week: to paraphrase, Most-Overhyped Celebrity, Celeb with the Worst Case of Foot-in-Mouth Disease and Biggest PR Train Wreck. Voting is officially open. Cast your vote, e-mail to your friends and comment below. Polls will be open through midnight July 3. Winners will be announced on Wednesday, July 5. Most likely to go away if we stop looking? Starting at left: Janice Dickinson (AP), Taylor Hicks (AP), Lindsay Lohan (Getty Images), Nicole Richie (Reuters), Kevin Federline (Reuters), Paris Hilton (Getty Images) VOTE HERE...

Portrait of the Absurdist

She may not be an extreme "fan", per se, but if you were to describe "14" (yes, 14) as extremely fascinated by celebrities, you'd be right. For the past year, the San Francisco-based artist has made celebrities the focus of her work. And far from emulating celeb-centric art that borders on religious iconography, have no fear -- 14's work has little in common with the fawning velvet paintings of yesteryear. 14 uses the tools at her disposal -- pen, paint, computer and one magnificent time-suck of a blog -- to skewer, rather than glorify, celebrity. Her art borrows elements from tabloids, editorial cartoons, advertising and even textbook illustrations to illuminate a world of distorted values, inflated egos and undeniable appeal. (Courtesy galleryoftheabsurd.com) Recently, I interviewed 14 via e-mail....

And the Celebritology Honors Will Be...

In what can only be described as a turnout worse than that of the last presidential election, we have declared a winner in the poll determining our inaugural Celebritology Honors. To quickly recap: A couple of weeks ago I asked for nominations for an award that Celebritology will bestow on a deserving celeb on a yearly basis. Last Friday, you voted for your favorite ideas. Today, along with unanimous agreement from an in-house council, we have a clear winner -- or winners, rather. The ideas were so good, we weren't able to limit the fun to just one award. The Yearly Celebritology Honors will be: 1. Celebrity most likely to be insignificant if it weren't for the paparazzi and celebrity tabloids/blogs. (29.1 percent of votes, nominated by reader Maybe Jones) 2. Most inane comment, demonstrating complete self absorption and cluelessness. (13.5 percent of votes, nominated by reader jmsbh) 3. Most...
