* Mariska Hargitay thanks dad Mickey Hargitay, but made no mention of dead mom Jayne Mansfield.

* Has the International Astronomical Union classified Candice Bergen a dwarf planet yet? She seems to be filling the ecological niche left vacant by the death of Shelley Winters.

Why would Mariska thank her dead mother?

yeah, didn't mom die when m was really young?

Sean Penn should be the Riddler, not the Joker. There's a bullet dodged. Could Gary Oldman do the Joker justice, maybe?

K-Fed playing a teenager? Wow, the CSI guys must really think we are dumb. This is a new low for the show. And I thought the episode with plushies and furries was bad.

Ok, maybe Tom Cruise didn't say that, but I wouldn't say People's evidence is of the highest order. It consists of a denial from his people (and everyone knows they would never lie!) and this sentence: "Research shows that, indeed, Cruise never made such a statement." Oh! They did research? Well, then! It must be true!

It's just respectful to mention departed parents. Jeremy Piven mentioned his father. Other winners did the same with their passed on parents. Hargitay mentioned her mom at the Golden Globes in 2005. I just thought Mansfield deserved a mention here, too.

[Note: Mariska Hargitay was 3 years old when Jayne Mansfield and two others died in the car accident in 1967. Mariska was in the back seat of the car with two siblings when it happened. Her mother was not driving; or decapitated (a common rumor).]

Gary Oldman played Commissioner Gordon in Batman Begins, so chances are, no, he could not play the Joker. Johnny Depp would be an obvious candidate. My dark horse: Hugo Weaving.
