Comment Box: Moobs and Guilty Pleasures

By Liz Kelly

Last week, inspired by a report about the growing trend of man boobs in Hollywood, we revisited the debate over Hollywood's (and our) double standard when it comes to judging celebrities based on their looks. Two important things came out of our comments that day -- the new-to-me term "Moobs" (thank you to reader CJB for that) and -- in the hopes of a little equal-opportunity snarking -- a list of fashion-challenged men-to-watch for the fabulous Heather and Jessica over at GoFugYourself.com.

Heather and Jessica received the list and wanted me to share this response with you:

Awesome list, thanks for sending it along -- we always welcome suggestions. You know, we do feature men as often as we can (look at any of our celebrity terror watches, for example). The problem is, most actors clean it up fairly well for the red carpet, probably because men have a more well-defined red carpet "uniform" than women do, and therefore, less opportunity to go off the rails. It's hard to screw up a suit! And since we feature -- by and large -- mostly photos from big events, the pool of fug-able pictures of men is smaller than it is for women. -- Heather and Jessica

Maybe we can help make their job a bit easier by e-mailing them links when we see male fashion offenders.

And because Celebritology would not be half the blog it is without reader contributions, thanks to everyone who bravely contributed songs to Friday's list of "Guilty Pleasure" listening. I'm sure iTunes, seeing a significant bump in sales of cheesy songs that day, is now pondering the purchase of the entire K-Tel back catalog.

One interesting upshot of the list was learning that everyone's definition of what crosses the cheese line is intensely personal and while Aerosmith may be a guilty pleasure for this former punk, it is rock legend to others.

Thank you, also, to reader MG for a link to this Business Week blog posting about what our iPod playlist says about us.
