In Praise of Brad Pitt

By Liz Kelly

Brad Pitt in New Orleans Tuesday. (AP)

Considering the battering Brangelina has taken in the press since, well, the two were first linked, it's only fair that we pause today to consider a bit of commendable behavior on the part of one William Bradley Pitt all by his lonesome.

Inevitably, comments about Pitt's unceremonious dumpage of that sweet Jennifer Aniston after falling under the spell of the duplicitous harlot Angelina Jolie will mitigate some of this praise. Ancient history. Jen has moved on -- let's join her. Let's separate the man from his choice of mates. Besides, when I see an A-list star donning a hard hat to build homes for someone other than himself, I'm impressed.

And so it was that Pitt toured New Orleans's lower ninth ward this week, replete with hard hat and rough-hewn good looks, to check up on the construction of the Holy Cross housing project. Pitt, along with Home Depot and non-profit Global Green broke ground last May on the five single-family homes, 18-unit apartment building and community center. And, as if rebuilding for families who lost everything in Katrina wasn't enough to merit a tip of the hat, the project is dedicated to green, sustainable building standards.

Calling the construction a "small victory," Pitt added, "it's hard to find an overall victory when you see how slowly everything is still moving. And Katrina was a man-made disaster. This house is a man-made solution."

Thanks, Brad Pitt, for thinking about others rather than cutting down 200 trees or building a basketball court for yourself.

Also, I can't say you make the best husband, but you seem to be taking to the dad thing pretty well. Now, if you could just convince Angelina to eat.
