"Lost" Madness Update:
The Sweet 16 (not to be confused with the Oceanic Six) has been revealed. This is where the competition gets even tougher, and where your votes become even more crucial. So revisit the bracket ASAP.

A few quick notes about where the competition stands:

-- The most shocking outcome of round two? John Locke is a goner, losing to Sayid Jarrah, who earned 58.3 percent of the vote. Best explanation for this victory? That breakdancing thing Sayid does with his legs.

--Juiciest match-ups in the Sweet 16: Jack vs. Sayid, Kate vs. Sawyer and Ben vs. Juliet.

--The guy to keep an eye on: Desmond Hume. I see everyone's favorite time traveler coasting to the Final Four and possibly winning the whole thing.

Vote now, then return Monday afternoon when we reveal the Lost Elite Eight.

Figured y'all would appreciate this article from The Atlantic:

Shooting Britney
by David Samuels

How a French journalist recruited a posse of Brazilian parking attendants and pizza-delivery guys and helped create Hollywood's most addictive entertainment product.

http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200804/britney-spears

Some snippets:

The potential upside of waiting 12 or 14 hours a day, six or seven days a week, is the chance that one day Britney will roll her car into a ditch, or be taken away again strapped to a gurney. "You're telling a little story in a 15- or 20-second clip," Dano explains, resting his right hand on his Panasonic DVX 100B three-chip broadcast-quality video camera. "You need an establishing shot. You need an action. And then you need it to resolve."

...

Suddenly, a pair of headlights appears at the bottom of the ramp. The photographers start shooting, and then they run for their cars. Felix drives a new BMW truck. I jump inside, and as the pack swings up Coldwater Canyon at a scarily high speed, the other MBF drivers box out the competition so Felix can pull up alongside Britney and shoot video. The star is blasting a song from her new album, Blackout, through her open passenger-side window and singing along. She looks lost in her own world, a rich girl singing to herself in a white Mercedes. "Britney is unpredictable," Felix shouts, as he films her driving. "She might stop and take her clothes off, I don't know."

Liz: "Elight" or "Elite" Eight? not trying to bust you - it's early and my coffee isn't working.

Also, I can't link to the Lost Boys trailer... is the OTHER Corey in there, too? I don't remember if he was killed off in the first movie, but I wouldn't think that he was. Anyhoo - after watching "The Two Coreys" and their personal disasters on TV, can this movie be ANY good? Possibly for the under-25 crowd who didn't see the original in a theater. Maybe. Looks like one to skip (because it looks like a rehash of the first one).

Can't wait for the Dueling Analysis, and... time to check out that bracket. Ciao!

"Winning bidder shells out $40,000 for Scarlett Johannson"

Oh, Eliot Spitzer, won't you *ever* learn?

Straight to the DVD clearence bin.

Hey Liz-
The Lost Boys trailer isn't showing on the link you gave- it's just a bunch of interviews with Corey Feldman.

Liz, it is ANTHONY Pellicano. You are conflating him and George Pelacanos, who would no doubt be amused but probably would not ultimately appreciate the comparison.

Posted by: Anonymous | March 14, 2008 9:26 AM | Report abuse

Liz.. PLEASE correct the reference to George P. Not him. BIIIIGGGG difference. It's ANTHONY Pellicano.

Don't want to get too deeply into specifics here but re: the Mel B. & Eddie Murphy story...they had sex 3 times, he trusted her to be honest w/him about birth control, but despite their both probably having many partners in the past, say, decade or so, he didn't feel the need to use a condom. And she "tricked" him? That may be so, but you're an idiot, idjit, knucklehead, Eddie...however you want to spell it.

Posted by: methinks | March 14, 2008 9:45 AM | Report abuse

great minds, TBG!

Nothing better than a little Adrian Grenier to start off the day. Hey, he hates junk mail, I hate junk mail...that's it. Meant to be.

I can't believe Vincent lost to Kate!

Augh -- an attack of early morning space-brain. Fixing now.

Eddie Murphy says Mel B "tricked" him into fatherhood...

Eddie, men can be responsible for their own birth control these days. They're called condoms. Use them...please.

"Lost Boys: The Tribe"

Yeah, 'cause the world has been CLAMORING for a sequel to that fine film.

And still sending love and good wishes to the Swayze. We do heart you, Patrick!

I think Eddie just proved why he didn't get the Oscar last year. What a dweeb.

"Mel B "tricked" Eddie Murphy into fatherhood."

Just like she "tricked" Wile E. Coyote into running into that cliff face that had the tunnel painted on it.

Meep! Meep!

oh...just saw the lost dueling analysis go up. i guess everyone's going to head over there. have a nice weekend.

Posted by: methinks | March 14, 2008 10:42 AM | Report abuse

and why would Mel B. need to "trick" eddie M. into anything? she probably has more money than he does anyway. those spicegirls made a lot of bank in their day.

can we speculate on minnie driver's baby daddy? who has she been linked with romantically?

Quick hits that no one will read because the Lost thing is up:

1. Way to stay classy about your kid there Eddie. Regardless of how you feel about Mel, there is still a child involved. Try acting like an adult instead of a character from one of your movies.

2. No, not a remake of Lost Boys. Not that the original was a great classic, but it was B-Movie classic and should NOT be messed with.

3. Only $500,000 for relief in Darfur. How about you guys kick in a bit okay? And isn't Don Cheadle involved in that group too? As in he recruited the others to the cause.

What happened to the Swayze embargo? (Same thing that happened to the Spears embargo?)

Posted by: Anonymous | March 14, 2008 11:53 AM | Report abuse

Byoolin = hilarity today. Just thought you needed some (more) credit.

Also, Paris Hilton wants in a BFF: "Someone that I can just trust, someone who's not gonna stab me in the back like has happened a lot in this town, someone I can have fun with," said Hilton, who co-created the series with Michael Hirschorn and Stella Stolper, former executives at VH1, the cable channel sibling of MTV." How could you NOT find someone like that on a reality show...

Why won't Sheryl Crow go away? Revolting... musically, physically and intellectually.

Posted by: Kenowli | March 14, 2008 12:01 PM | Report abuse

Gee Eddie, no wonder Tracey Edmonds couldn't wait to get away from you. I would say you're a douchebag, but they actually serve a purpose.

Maybe we should chip in and send him a box of Trojans.

ok.... sorry... rant time...

who in their right freaking mind goes to SXSW to see HANSON!!!! come on... there were some good shows last night. Most of the really good bands have 2 or 3 free sets at local joints (though some of those still require wristbands, getting a wristband wasnt nearly as hard this year as they instituted some hardcore anti-scalping policies - if he wants to see an act and he's paying attn he can certainly catch it more than once)... Spoon was probably the big draw last night and it was a free show (though Peelander-Z played a japan bash set at brush park and Longwave followed up their previous night's official set with another free one). If you wanted an older crowd - there was always NOFX at 1am... but no... your reviewer went to see Hanson.

There are some big showcases tonight - tell Malitz to widen his experience... one of the best sets i ever saw at SX was a Polish Reggae act (yes, there were accordions - and somehow it worked). Yes - he *has* to cover REM... but he isnt going to capture the spirit of this festival that way.

To answer QV's question ("who in their right freaking mind goes to SXSW to see HANSON!!!!"): someone who needs an mmmbop on the head, I'd say.
