Hey Liz,
Any news on Kat(i)e Holmes running the Boston Marathon? I remember that she was supposed to get in even though her time in NY didn't actually qualify her but I haven't heard anything about her or Tom's pressence here. Any scoop?

MEMO FROM: The Dallas Cowboys Offensive Line

You let Jessica Simpson lick cake off your face.

You're on your own after the snap, dude.

The guys.

I like the new look of the page but where's the whachamacallems...advars? adverts? Those preview thingies?

Posted by: PGM | April 22, 2008 9:08 AM | Report abuse

We're having to rethink our Apture rules so, for the short term, expect those links to be few and far between.

Posted by: Liz | April 22, 2008 9:10 AM | Report abuse

What's the something being removed from above Der Hoff's eye?

My money says it's that stupid cowlick.

Posted by: byoolin | April 22, 2008 9:10 AM | Report abuse

It occurs to me that R. Kelly could tell us if those pictures floating around the internet are of a scantily-clad Miley Cyrus or a look-alike.

Posted by: byoolin | April 22, 2008 9:16 AM | Report abuse

I can't listen to Scarlett Johansson's song from work.... is it any good? Will it cause me to lose my girl crush on her?

Posted by: RiverCityRoller | April 22, 2008 9:18 AM | Report abuse

Hey Liz-Don't know if you have control over this, but there's a rather egregious typo on the front page, under the Entertainment section:

Die to Sore Throat, Sparks Leaves Keys Tour

Posted by: ASinMoCo | April 22, 2008 9:24 AM | Report abuse

Speaking of girl crushes, this morning mix reminds me of my total girl crush on Shakira. She's just swell.

Posted by: ASinMoCo | April 22, 2008 9:27 AM | Report abuse

I'm sure the Miley Cyrus photos are fake. Her life is so regimented that she recently admitted she has never watched American Idol so it's doubtful that she would have a Myspace page.

Posted by: Anonymous | April 22, 2008 9:31 AM | Report abuse

Miss River, If you like Tom Waits I think you'll like Scarlett's cover. I do.

Posted by: omni | April 22, 2008 9:39 AM | Report abuse

byoolin i think you've just found a new career for r. kelly. it could be his job, nay his duty, to help clean up the reputation of young girls everywhere who are accused of getting freaky deaky on the internet. the teen usa contestants alone would keep him busy for years.

Posted by: melissamac1 | April 22, 2008 9:47 AM | Report abuse

Wow. Nice makeover, Celebritology. Interesting color scheme. It's very ..springy!

Posted by: methinks | April 22, 2008 9:47 AM | Report abuse

For using freaky deaky in a sentance...

Posted by: Props to.... | April 22, 2008 9:56 AM | Report abuse

Ok, I'll take one for the team. I'm listening to the Scarlett Johansson song and it's...interesting. It's not terrible. The production is kind of cool - very electronicky. Her singing sounds just like her speaking voice, so that's something - at least we know it's her. But it's kind of flat. Not flat as in off-pitch, flat as in emotionally empty. And also she only sings, like, two notes in the whole song. It's a little monotonous. I'm not a particular Tom Waits fan, though - maybe that's what this song is supposed to sound like.

Posted by: h3 | April 22, 2008 9:59 AM | Report abuse

Glad to see Gwyneth is getting out more, but good gad I hate the ankle-boot trend. What is remotely interesting or fashionable about orthopedic shoes with six-inch heels? I don't get it.

God, I overuse em-dashes. You should have a filter in the submission form that rejects comments with bad writing.

Posted by: h3 | April 22, 2008 10:00 AM | Report abuse

So Gwyneth Paltrow's shoes are "Fashion Forward"? I think I'll remain deeply Fashion Backwards, then

Posted by: Chasmosaur | April 22, 2008 10:04 AM | Report abuse

I think the pictures of Miley Cyrus are real. It's a trend for young (and not so young) women to put scantily-clad pictures of themselves on Myspace. If her parents are not carefully Miley will be the "New Britney" at 18.

Posted by: Lisa1 | April 22, 2008 10:05 AM | Report abuse

for some reason Paltrow's shoes made me gag...or maybe it was her feet? just ewww.

Posted by: no_bs_4me | April 22, 2008 10:08 AM | Report abuse

For Miley Cyrus, scantily glad means it shows her midriff and some of her bra. At least she is wearing a bra.

The new format is too blocky. I liked the old one where the information was more broken up.

I like Gwynnie's shoes - all of them. I would wear them if I had somewhere to go in them! But I have always loved funky shoes and those are some of the funkiest.

What jake said. And then there's the part of your post where it looks like you're asking Me to install a filter in the submission form. You think I've got time to handle your IT work requests? (In the words of George Carlin, I'm "too busy whizzing gas balls around the firmament!" In My own words, I'm too Me-Damned busy!)

Also, the word you should have used in that last sentence there was "poor," not "bad."

Now, go out and wage some sort of Holy War in my name and stop bothering me while I am trying to Work.

I am just happy that no one has yet called the shoes "insouciant."

Also, I wondered if the thing removed from above the Hoff's eye was part of his brain? Lobotomy, anyone?

Posted by: sunnydaze | April 22, 2008 10:33 AM | Report abuse

Alright, sunnydaze. You're hired.

At least I won't have to spring for tools for you like I did the first guy. Noah didn't even own a hammer, for My sake. And he couldn't read a blueprint to save his own life. Who can't understand a 1 thumb = 1000 cubits scale on a design drawing? No wonder the boat was so crowded. It was about 60 times too small!

Great, now Conner Cruise will be the next candidate for rehab. Not that I'm surprised. But I wish these idiot parents would at least let their kids finish high school.

Posted by: possum | April 22, 2008 10:43 AM | Report abuse

I happen to love the Insouciant Gwyneth's shoes. While I don't particularly care for her generally, the girl can pull off the look.

Posted by: musicgeek | April 22, 2008 10:45 AM | Report abuse

ug - NO! Gwynnie's shoes are not good in any realm of fashion. The only person that I've seen who can rock that kind of 6" platform-ish heel with grace is Kelly Ripa... she does it everyday that she's on the air, clutching Regis's arm for balance.

Posted by: former 21044 | April 22, 2008 10:50 AM | Report abuse

Hey Liz - I kindof like the new format, and I kindof don't. The tidbits are still great, but the new format feels like I'm on "People" magazine's website, which makes me think that I look less intelligent while reading your posts. The point of coming to the WaPo website for celebrity drivel is to at least look smart while doing it.

And we all know that it's about how we look to others, dahling.

Posted by: e2h | April 22, 2008 10:56 AM | Report abuse

Geez...who knew New Yorkers were so sensitive. They really should be more insouciant, like Gwynneth Paltrow or even Scarlett Johansen. Alls Ms. MC Ritchie said was that New York "lost its buzz." We all know it lost most of its buzz during the Giuliani Administration. What little it had left was killed off on 9/11. You'dve thought she said something like New Yorkers have become bitter and now cling to their guns and religion.

byoolin, re: 9:00

You are my hero.

Posted by: football fan | April 22, 2008 11:05 AM | Report abuse

Lohan definitely is hitting the sauce again. Ashley Olsen has a lot of things but a "full house a$$" isn't one of them.

We'll be serving the Lindsay-tini at our next party:

2 shots of vodka
4 oz of Red Bull
into a chilled martini glass. For that extra special touch, float a cigarette butt.

Posted by: MoCoSnarky | April 22, 2008 11:11 AM | Report abuse

Byoolin, thank God for the thoughts about em-dashes, and could we ask Him for a final ruling on Gwynneth's shoes?

Posted by: h3 | April 22, 2008 11:21 AM | Report abuse

Those shoes are on the wrong Gwen, they should be on Gwen Stefani.

Now that's a chick that can rock those kind of heels!

And next time you plan to print a pic of Jessica Simpson sucking face with ANYONE, could a girl get a warning? I was just stuffing my face with my chinese food & almost ralphed it back up.

Posted by: Bored @ work | April 22, 2008 11:23 AM | Report abuse

Well, h3, they're okay, but they don't really do anything for Me.

But truth be told, usually when I think about ladies' shoes, it's in the Lisa de Moraes sense of the word. And I didn't really give her any of those to speak of.

Posted by: God, speaking through byoolin | April 22, 2008 11:31 AM | Report abuse

Right on about Gwen Stefani - she's awesome! Gwen P. in those shoes just misses the mark, but if they were on Gwen Stefani they'd be killer. Totally.

Posted by: rachelt... apparently posting from 1985 | April 22, 2008 11:38 AM | Report abuse

Wait a minute, did "former 21044" just claim that Kelly Ripa can rock 6" heels harder than the Insouciant One? Say what you will about her personality flaws, but Gwynneth is still an absolute beauty compared to that hammy little morning show slug.

Byoolin, smite her!

Posted by: huh? | April 22, 2008 11:53 AM | Report abuse

First, byoolin's just a multiple-time winner of the Celebritology Comment Of The Week Award with no powers to smite anyone. (I tried that for a week and he went ape****. Restraint is not byoolin's long suit.)

Second, I kind of like KR - nice shoes, anyway, and she was funny when she was on SNL a couple of years ago. Liz, can we link - whoops, thought I was Weingarten there for a sec - My bad.

If it's any consolation, byoolin *would* smite KR. But I've made him promise Me that he'll only make a snarky remark about her the next time Liz Kelly mentions her.

I am so impressed with Soulja Boy! Bahhh!

Posted by: Ms. Fitz | April 22, 2008 12:54 PM | Report abuse

I've heard three of the ScarJo tracks off her Tom Waits album, and as much as I'd like to say that I like it, I just can't. She's awful, with zero vocal range and heavy heavy electronic manipulation. Normally I love the Scarlett, but what I've heard is unbearable.

Besides, most of the reviews are positive in a weird backhand way. . ."Its not terrible" or "not as bad as you'd think". Not exactly a ringing endorsement for purchase and time spent listening.

Red Bull and Vodka? Why not just drink your own urine.

Posted by: possum | April 22, 2008 1:40 PM | Report abuse

Scarlett - don't quit your day job. The girl is a good actress and very beautiful, but she just can't sing. This song has all of the electronic effects that are mixed into the voices of people who can't stay on key and have poor tone quality.

It's the CUBE, man. The CUBE is messin' with us all. That talkin' to God business and liking Kelly Ripa - I mean, we all know that God and KR aren't even real, for crying out loud.

Or maybe I just need to get some lunch. That's it. I'm'a smite me some lunch.

I heart Shakira too.

Why is Gwynnie now wearing Farrah Fawcett hair? The bob was fantastic. Before the 70s feathers crept in.

Great, another Cruise in the movies. Just what the world needs, poor kid.

Lohan, off the wagon? NO! Stop the presses.

Okay, h3, I'll try to cheer you up.

Last night, as I was going through the checkout aisle in the Safeway, I spied this month's Vogue magazine. Her Insouciance Herself is this month's Vogue Covergirl. The headlline about Gwyneth quotes her: "I simplfy everything."

Here's a link to the cover:

Does that make Gwynnie a Simpleton?

I am so late to today's party! Man, you guys are fantastic - cube-ist em-dashes, 4 a.m. Lohan calls and all.

That Scarlet Johannsson song is an insouciant, Sinead-O'Connor-wannabe, full court, steaming can of crazy. It makes SJ's long-ago turn in "Home Alone 3" (my kids wanted to watch it on cable, I was ill, unable to convince them otherwise) seem comparatively award-worthy.
