Remembering Paul Newman

Sad news prompts this morning's out of the ordinary weekend post: Paul Newman succumbed to cancer yesterday at age 83. An actor for the ages and a truly all around good guy, in Celebritology land he's about as un-snarkable as they come. The Post's Stephen Hunter eulogizes Newman as a man at his "best when he was too busy thinking to care about the looks he'd been given." The features staff here at post.com has also assembled a gallery looking back at Newman's legendary career. Take a deeper look back at the man's life and legacy with these links: Bio (Wikipedia) Filmography (IMDB.com) Celebrating Paul Newman (cinemaretro.com) And, finally, here's a screen test Newman did with James Dean for "East of Eden," circa 1955. Nothing special and Newman ended up not being cast in the Elia Kazan movie, but it does capture the man's spark, which was considerable: If you're...

Comment Box: Clay's Gay. But Is He Dating?

While I considered taking the rest of the day off from my Celebritological pursuits to fix the economy or, like, get a pedicure I ultimately decided that my place is here, behind the keyboard. And so I present a special Friday edition of the Comment Box. (AP/People) So -- does Clay Aiken have a boyfriend? A date? Any one other than his "best friend" with whom he's having children? -- Amelia Although Aiken chose to publicly address his sexuality in this week's People magazine, he stopped short of getting into details about his love life and relationships, saying only that he didn't want to raise his son while living a lie. And that's about par for the course for Aiken, who has made a habit of dodging questions about his romantic life: He [once] told New York magazine that he'd never had a relationship, prompting ABC News to run...

Creative Captioning: Rear View Reality

Thanks Fox Reality Channel Really Awards for bringing this guy to our attention. Otherwise we may have been forced to snark on yet another picture of a much celebrated face. But thanks to you, Fox Reality Channel Really Awards, we have seen the light. We don't need a famous face, per se, to unleash our Creative Captioning creativity. Who needs faces at all when there are so many other assets worthy of comment? And maybe it is this stunt, captured here in perpetuity, that will prove to be this jack-- this guy's big break. And I have to admit, Fox Reality Channel Really Awards, that I'm a teensy bit proud that I had to turn to Google to learn that our man, Dominico, is a former "Shot at Love with Tila Tequila" hopeful and current star of MTV's "That's Amore." I guess the undies were a clue. You know the...

Reality Check: Cloris Leachman's Overexposure

Sweet fancy Moses. Cloris Leachman must be stopped. Let me explain: A couple of nights ago, I was unfortunate enough to channel surf on over to ABC in the midst of one night of the three-evening "Dancing With the Stars" season premiere. This is what happens when "Intervention" starts airing reruns (thanks a lot A&E). Now, aside from the fact that "DWTS" is cheesy and tacky and ranks right up there with a tractor pull in terms of not being my cup of tea, it can be somewhat fun to watch various celebs either blossom into ballroom quality dancers or fall flatter than Rachel Zoe's torso. Also, it's about as star-studded (we're talking cubic zirconia here) as it gets, so it's kind of hardship duty for me, ya know? But nothing short of a tetanus shot could have prepared me for the image that is currently seared into my retinas...

What Would Gwyneth Do?

Mmmm... tastes like Gwyneth! (AP) Like a ministering angel, that paragon of tastemaking -- Gwyneth Paltrow -- has at last answered our prayers with her latest venture, a Web site named GOOP (which, along with "Apple" and "Moses" makes her 0 for three in the naming department). The site -- which bears a scarily similar feel in look and tone to Daily Candy -- promises to share Paltrow's unerring taste with anyone with a Web browser and a desire to emulate the insouciant one's charmed life. While there is a short mission statement currently posted at the site, Celebritology managed to get a copy of the draft version*. We share it in its entirety below: My life is good because I am not passive about it. [I took full advantage of being born to famous parents.] I want to nourish what is real [my Britishness], and I want to...
