Friday List: The Best John Hughes Movie?

A dueling list from me and Movies editrix Jen Chaney Before there was "Nick and Norah" or "American Teen" or even "Napoleon Dynamite," there was the John Hughes oeuvre of teen movies, perhaps the finest collection of adolescent-angst cinema ever committed to celluloid. Luckily, we were fortunate enough to come of age in the Hughes-ian era, uniquely qualifying us to opine on his movies which were, truly, chronicles of the greatest generation. I, Jen, recently wrote about a DVD box set that contains three of the filmmaker's best -- "Sixteen Candles," "The Breakfast Club" and "Weird Science" -- and that got me thinking about how to rank the Hughes canon. So, I naturally mentioned this to Liz and we had a shocking, shocking I tell you, e-mail exchange in which we found out we didn't agree at all about which of the films is the most culturally significant --...

Stone Cold Parenting Advice

Sharon Stone, model mom. (AP) Yesterday, when courts docs surfaced revealing Sharon Stone's desire to have her son's smelly feet Botoxed, well I couldn't help but wonder what other creative advice Stone might have for weathering the myriad annoyances and little inconveniences that come with raising a kid. Unwittingly, it seems Stone may have hit upon a new parenting model and I look forward to a lively, yet civil, discussion of these proposed Sharon Stone-inspired problems and solutions: Problem: Your kid's feet stink. Solution: Nothing will get rid of the stank of smelly boy feet like a round of 50 or so Botox injections in each foot. In fact, your kid may be so traumatized by the experience that he will never again step into a soccer shoe without first soaking his foot in bleach. Problem: Your kid refuses to brush his teeth, resulting in regular cavities. Solution: Duh,...

Reality Watch: 'Paris Hilton's My New BFF'

Paris Hilton (center) with 'BFF' hopefuls Baje, Brittany, Vanessa and Kiki. (Getty Images) OMG, who'd have thunk that five years after Paris Hilton first broke ground as one of reality TV's first celebrity guinea pigs that she'd still have enough new material in her to fill up a whole new show? MTV, that's who! They heart Paris so much that they've made her the centerpiece of "Paris Hilton: My New BFF," a platonic (we hope) tour de force modeled on the matchmaking elimination show, a la "Flavor of Love." And where "Simple Life" cast Paris and then-cohort Nicole Richie as hapless wanderers in the workaday world, "My New BFF" puts Hilton and her skill set at the top of the food chain and everywhere from the opening song to the art decorating the contestant's "Real World"-esque digs. In "BFF," a group of 20-somethings of questionable intelligence -- and even...

Celebrity Designer: Alyssa Milano, Jersey Gal

Is there anything the lovely and talented Alyssa Milano can't do? The latest entrant in the field of celebrity designers has proven herself a dab hand at making money and keeping herself relevant. If not for the flurry of activity surrounding the expansion line of women's sports clothing, this dynamo might've been just what Henry Paulsen ordered to turn the failing economy around. Milano models one of her Touch designs. (Getty Images) Milano burst upon the scene as spunky Samantha Micelli on '80s sitcom fave "Who's the Boss." Then, just to keep us guessing, she reinvented herself in critically acclaimed cable releases like "Casualties of Love: the Long Island Lolita Story" and "Confessions of a Sorority GIrl" before moving on to ground-breaking projects like "Poison Ivy II." But before surrendering fully to late night cable, Milano engineered her own renaissance by landing regular gigs on "Melrose Place," "Spin City," "Charmed"...

2008 Lizzies: Let the Voting Begin

This fall, make your vote count... in the third annual Celebritology Honors (aka The Lizzies). There's no pesky registration, no waiting online outside an elementary school while being harangued by hyper-caffeinated campaign volunteers and absolutely no hanging chads. And, if your candidate doesn't win, there won't be any cold sweats or vows to move to Sweden. Instead, a panel of Celebritological experts came up with this year's categories and nominees, because really, primaries are so overdone. Lizzies 2008:Cast Your Vote Now! Last year, you voted Angelina Jolie the Most Admired Celebrity and the mom of two new twins may just be poised to sweep that category again. And last year's Biggest Train Wreck -- Britney Spears -- may just pull off a complete image rehab by snatching the title in a new category, Biggest Turnaround, leaving her former title open to a motivated group of candidates from Amy Winehouse...
