Video Friday List: Celeb-Inspired Halloween Hilarity

The thing to keep in mind if you decide to go the celebrity route for your Halloween costume is this: Don't take yourself too seriously. You want people laughing with you, not at you. And nothing says desperation so much as a straight-faced facsimile of Marilyn Monroe or an elaborate recreation of "300's" Leonidas. Trust me, guys -- no matter how cut your abs, there's only one Gerard Butler and loin cloths tend to make people uncomfortable. Earlier this week, Rocci Fisch (who produces my weekly chat) and I went in search of celeb-related Halloween duds. Much to the chagrin of Rocci and my ego, we share the results here: Now, if you can wipe the image of bizarro world Paris Hilton out of your mind, share your ideas for celebrity-inspired costumes below. And remember, the devil is in the details. (Many thanks to D.C.'s Backstage Costumes and Falls Church's...

Creative Captioning: Heigl + Dog = Captioning Gold

What is it about the confluence of animals and celebrities that makes for particularly fertile Celebritology material? We've trod this ground before: with Vincent Pastore and a ridiculously cute kitten, misguided Aubrey O'Day and her fashion abused dog Ginger and Diddy's unfortunate collision with a pile of dog doody. Truly, I remember those cuddly, cutified posts as some of my favorites. Maybe not the Diddy one, so much. But suddenly I understand the genius of "The Soup's" Lou the Chihuahua. The latest celebrity to go to the dogs? Katherine Heigl. As you can see below, the "Grey's Anatomy" and "Knocked Up" star took along one of her four dogs to an L.A. opening for designer Peter Alexander's new store. Is it a lame attempt at image rehab considering her penchant for dissing pretty much everything and everyone who made her the star she is? Nice try, Kat. We'll see...

How Webby is William Shatner?

If figuring out how to post videos on YouTube and recruiting your daughter to indulge your self-absorbed bugaboo with a guy who co-starred on a show with you 40 years ago, then he's, like, Sergey Brin in a fat suit. What am I talking about? Shatner, who seems to leap at every opportunity to shore up at his status as a cultural (if kitschy) icon, this week delighted his small army of YouTube followers and gossip bloggers tired of boring celebrity voting PSAs with yet another digital diary -- all part of his mission to "share his life with you and take cameras where they have never been allowed before." In the latest installment, he spends three-plus minutes talking about why he was left off the guest list for former "Star Trek" co-star George Takei's recent wedding. Takei, says Shatner, must be suffering from some kind of "sickness" or "psychosis."...

Catching Up With 'Mad Men's' Bryan Batt

Bryan Batt with co-star Christina Hendricks on the 'Mad Men' set. (AMC) Even if the cigarettes are herbal and he has to give back the sharkskin suits at the end of the day, Bryan Batt agrees: "Mad Men" is basically the coolest show on television ever. And it's not just those impeccably tailored clothes, the spot-on '60s era sets and the unshakably hip vibe. Batt plays Sal Romano on the show -- which will air its season finale Sunday on AMC -- Sterling-Cooper's closeted gay art director. Always available with a quick quip, but equally anxious to deflect attention from himself. "I couldn't have been luckier landing this plum role in such a great place, created by the brilliant Matthew Weiner and to be a part of such a great ensemble of actors," said Batt via phone last week. That may smack of sycophancy, but Batt means every word....

Comment Box: In Which We Again Consider the Question 'Is The Brangelina Brood Too Big?'

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, sans kids, attend the Oct. 4 premiere of Jolie's new movie, 'The Changeling,' in New York. (Reuters) Welcome back to the on-going, years-spanning debate about Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and a growing cast of children. As expected, last week's hint from Jolie that she and Pitt may be considering another adoption -- this would bring their brood up to seven -- set readers off on another round of back-and-forth over whether or not the couple is saving the world one kid at a time or recklessly stockpiling kids. The reaction, not surprisingly, was mostly negative. Said one Celebritology Live chatter, "I barely have enough time to spend quality time with my three cats and Brangelina wants seven plus kids! Sorry, they're nuts." Bawlmer agreed, adding an opinion to Thursday's Morning Mix: "Angie, I like you, but your crazy is starting to show. This is...
