Friday List: Who Can Bring the Funny Back to 'SNL'?

Last weekend, I sat through an entire "Saturday Night Live" for the first time in years. Despite a few rare exceptions -- Andy Samberg's collaborations with Justin Timberlake, Tina Fey as Sarah Palin -- the late night institution lost its edge sometime in the '90s and never seemed able to regain its reputation for cutting edge comedy. But last weekend, guest host (and "SNL" alum) Tracy Morgan totally brought the funny back. Maybe it was his energy. Perhaps he helped the shows writers to polish up their usually lackluster comedy. Whatever it was, one thing is certain: Morgan acted as a catalyst for the entire show. We expected Morgan to totally crush, but somehow everyone else seemed funnier, too. Here's a sampling: Which brings us to today's Friday List mission: If one guest host is capable of bringing the flatlining "SNL" back to life, surely others can, too. Who should...

'Lost' Dueling Analysis: 'Namaste'

In which Jen Chaney and I untangle (or tangle, it's all in how you look at it) the disparate threads that, taken together, knit into the stuff that addictive TV is made of: ABC's "Lost." Or a really ugly sweater. And be sure to join us for The 'Lost' Hour chat today at 3 p.m. ET. Hurley (Jorge Garcia), Kate (Evangeline Lilly) and Jack (Matthew Fox) return to the island. (ABC) Jen: I always wanted to get the whole "Losties" gang back together for some sort of '70s luau. And darn if we didn't come close tonight. I mean, they were wearing leis, and burgers and punch was being served. Sure, Sayid was in handcuffs and Jack, Kate and Hurley had to pretend they didn't know Juliet and Sawyer, but really, isn't that how most high school reunions go? A lot of little things in this episode that may...

Who is Rashida Jones?

Rashida Jones. (Getty Images) "I have no idea who Rashida Jones is at all." -- TD in Baltimore TD, you're not alone. Earlier this week, I was shocked -- shocked I tell you -- to read several similar comments about the co-star of this weekend's upcoming "I Love You, Man." I guess I just assumed everyone watched "The Office" because "Office" watchers know her as Karen Fillipelli, the perfectly nice chick Jim dumps for long-time crush Pam. In this clip, Karen and Pam throw a competing holiday party to thwart Angela: Still not ringing a bell? In that case, here's a quick primer on Rashida Jones. You Should Know Her From: "The Office," the short-lived Farrelly Brothers comedy series "Unhitched" and one episode of "Freaks and Geeks" (which co-starred "I Love You, Man's" Jason Segel.) Upcoming Projects: After this weekend's release, we'll see Jones as a concerned citizen opposite...

Julia Roberts: Comeback Kid?

"I'm baaaa-aaaack." So said Julia Roberts in the March 20 Entertainment Weekly. Maybe it's all those "Oceans" cameos or the turn as a blond Texas tigress in 2007's "Charlie Wilson's War," but it doesn't much feel like Julia Roberts has been gone. And in fact, she has been working somewhat steadily -- if quietly -- all along. But the erstwhile reigning queen of rom-coms, who put her career on the back burner to raise a family (twins Finn and Hazel are 3, son Henry is almost two), is positioning this weekend's upcoming release of "Duplicity" as a return to leading lady form. But can she succeed where others have failed? Meg Ryan's own attempt to break back into the big time -- 2008's "The Women" -- fell embarrassingly flat. Sandra Bullock hasn't been able to land a rom-com since 2006's stinker "The Lake House." And, for better or worse, a...

Clip 'n Save: Lindsay Lohan, Repeat Offender

Update: A judge this morning threw out the warrant after Lohan's counsel reportedly produced evidence of compliance. We stand by our advice, though -- Lilo may have won this battle, but the war is starting to look like a prolonged occupation. -- 12:29 p.m. ET ----- Lilo and stylist Rachel Zoe at New York Fashion Week. Designer Matthew Williamson looks on. (Getty Images) Lindsay Lohan is facing an arrest warrant for violating the terms of her probation for a 2007 DUI conviction. No official word, but rumor has it the violations include breaching driving restrictions by driving to Las Vegas and missing court-ordered alcohol education classes. Lohan reportedly blames the paparazzi for the latter. Sometime Celebritology contributor Lisa Todorovich and I are shaking our heads and wondering how it is we failed so badly back in 2006. Lohan was the subject of our very first Clip 'n Save, back in...
