Susan Boyle's Wins Again, Terrence Howard Digs Himself Deeper -- This Week's Winners & Losers

A new semi-regular feature in which we hand out accolades and, umm, the opposite of accolades to the celebrities who made this week memorable. Winners Boyle outside her home in Blackburn, Scotland on Friday. (AP) Susan Boyle For going ahead with a mini-makeover (hair dye, eyebrow wax and heels) despite critics who say she's in danger of being Hollywood-ized. It's her body, let her do what she wants with it. Jorge Garcia Not only is he a founding cast member of arguably the coolest show on TV, he's unapologetically crafty. In this video from "The Bonnie Hunt Show," Garcia shares his DIY Halloween costumes (bonus points for incorporating a toilet seat in a non-gross way) and talks about his passion for vegetable gardening. Gwyneth Paltrow Bear with me. In another example of how I am slowly succumbing to Paltrow's brainwashing, this week I tried Paltrow's recipe for a sweet potato...

Britney's Not Pregnant, Y'All. Calm Down.

No bun in this oven, says Britney Spears's manager. (AP) As reported in this morning's Mix, Ryan Seacrest let fly with one whopper of a rumor yesterday: that the gossip world's fave erstwhile pop-wreck, Britney Spears, was pregnant. This morning, though, tabloid editors and a handful of paparazzi agencies had their hopes quashed when Brit's manager, Adam Leber, firmly denied any rumors that another bun was cooking in Spears's oven. Leber shared this enervating revelation with blogger to the stars Perez Hilton: "She's absolutely not pregnant. I have no idea where this ridiculous rumor came from. Ryan has communication with our camp and could have checked this before saying it." Darn tootin', Adam Leber. How could anyone be idiotic enough to think Britney -- or anyone with the surname Spears -- would do something so unexpected and clearly crazy? Why, that would be akin to wearing a pink wig...

Celebrity Life Lesson No. 1,254: Terrence Howard, Escape Artist

The resourceful Terrence Howard with 'Fighting' co-star Channing Tatum. (AP) Listen, like the credit card commercial tag line that is etched into my brain says, life comes at you fast. The unexpected happens. We must, at all times, be prepared for eventualities -- whether they are good or bad. For instance, one might suddenly find oneself imprisoned. Maybe you deserve the jail time. Perhaps you drove your luxury car into a curb while carrying a bag of cocaine in your pocket. Or maybe you were simply enjoying a charming cruise along the Somali coastline when you suddenly found yourself at the mercy of a band of pirates that look nothing like Johnny Depp or Keira Knightley. The circumstances aren't important. What is important is that you know what to do when faced with an against-the-odds situation. And, thanks to actor Terrence Howard, prisons will have a hard time holding...

Susan Boyle -- From Obscurity to Stardom to Unlikely Lightning Rod

Susan Boyle on 'Britain's Got Talent.' (Courtesy of TALKBACK THAMES/SYCO TV) A survey of the flurry of opinion-making spawned by the "Britain's Got Talent" contestant and Internet sensation. According to Britain's Daily Mail, the clip of Susan Boyle's "Britain's Got Talent" performance is poised to become the most-viewed YouTube clip ever. As of this writing, the various versions posted to the site have been viewed approximately 100 million times. (The reigning most viewed clip? Comedian Judson Laipply's "Evolution Of Dance.") But now that the initial novelty of Boyle's out-of-nowhere Cinderella story is getting old, reactions to Boyle -- and the context in which her performance was presented -- are mixed. Asking why we're so surprised that someone "ugly" could have a beautiful voice, the Guardian's Tanya Gold writes: Is Susan Boyle ugly? Or are we? On Saturday night she stood on the stage in Britain's Got Talent; small and...

Jake Gyllenhaal, Ab-solutely Cheezy

Note: We've had to remove the publicity still posted here today (you can see it here, though) after discovering that it was not an offiicially-sanctioned image. Maybe because he was "Donnie Darko" I just always expected more from Jake Gyllenhaal. My faith was shaken, though, as he grew out of his gawky phase, buffed up and started palling around with Lance Armstrong. Sure, he's to be commended for his work in "Brokeback Mountain," but it's been four years -- four long years of pix like this and, worse yet, this one with third musketeer Matthew McConaughey. So it should come as no surprise that a recently released publicity still from Gyllenhaal's upcoming movie, the video game-inspired "Prince of Persia," has been added to the collection here at the Gallery of Regrettable Publicity Stills. While Jake is probably trying to capitalize on the ab-fab success of Gerard Butler's look in "300,"...
