Opinion Roundup: Where Do Celebs Come Down on Polanski?

Much has been written about Roman Polanski this week. For anyone who has been living under a rock for the past few days, here's the case in a nutshell: Polanski was taken into custody in Switzerland earlier this week and could face extradition to the U.S. in connection with his 1978 conviction after admitting to unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl. His victim now says she believes Polanski is "sorry" for his actions and is not in support of further punishment. Although Polanski's case has long galvanized those who believe he should face the consequences for his actions and those who think the director should be dealt with leniently, if at all, the debate got especially heated this week. Below, a sampling of opinion pieces from both sides: A growing number of celebrities -- including Woody Allen, Martin Scorcese, Sam Mendes, Diane von Furstenberg and Tilda Swinton -- have...

Comment Box: Stylists for Male Celebs?

Do 'A Steady Rain' co-stars Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman dress themselves? (AP) Female celebrities of a certain rank have stylists, but what about guys? Is there someone who tells George Clooney to wear only black, white and gray? -- From last week's Celebritology Live submissions Both male and female celebs get beaucoup help with their look when it comes to magazine spreads and other promotional photo ops, but outside of photo shoots it's difficult to say. But yes, some of Hollywood's best-dressed men get just as much help as their distaff counterparts. Especially when it comes to red carpet events -- think movie premieres or the Oscars. Just because you don't see Daniel Craig or George Clooney turning up on Rachel Zoe's reality show, a la Liv Tyler or Jennifer Garner, that doesn't mean they aren't getting a little wardrobe help, too. I mean, look what happens when...

Remembering John Cusack (No, He's Not Dead)

Commence rant. This post is for the benefit of the under-30s out there who may not be aware that John Cusack was once cool. Generation X's version of Michael Cera, in fact -- slightly geeky, slightly intense, sweet and basically irrestistible. Had "Juno" been made in 1987, John Cusack would have played Ellen Page's baby daddy. Of course Ellen Page's part would have gone to Winona Ryder or Martha Plimpton, but that's beside the point. The point, at long last, is that while Cusack started going off the rails about a decade back, he has completely jumped the track and landed smack dab in Will Smith's career trajectory. You can see him channeling Smith in the upcoming blockbuster apocalyptic CGI-fest "2012," tagline: "We Were Warned." Indeed, we were warned ("America's Sweethearts," "Serendipity"). And while the ancient Mayan calendar stopped at the year 2012 -- conveniently facilitating a hoped-for big box...

Your Take: Parsing Polanski and Phillips

With Sunday's arrest of Roman Polanski in Switzerland on a three-decades-old conviction for having sex with a minor, the world is yet again buzzing -- and debating -- appropriate sexual relationships. This only a week after Mackenzie Phillips detailed her alleged 10-year affair with her dad. Are we overreacting, underreacting or looking at this stuff all wrong? Last week when Mackenzie Phillips dropped the bombshell that she first had sex with her father, Mamas and the Papas vocalist John Phillips, at the age of 19, our collective first reaction was "Ick." Followed in quick succession by, "Really?," "Tell me more," "She's just trying to sell books," and "Well, should we even trust a drug addict?" And, just as the story promised to retire comfortably to the Oprah Moments Hall of Fame (and excuse us from the headache of having to think about inappropriate sexual relationships, consensual or not), Roman Polanski's...
