Who is Rachel Uchitel?

By Liz Kelly

It's been an eventful, to say the least, holiday weekend for Tiger Woods. As the Post's Amy Shipley reports in today's paper, Woods has taken full blame for a Friday accident in which he drove his SUV into a tree. Woods has also said, in a statement posted to his Web site, that the events leading up to the accident are a "private matter."

Not for the National Enquirer, though, and a public accustomed to dirt dishing. Last week the tabloid published a story alleging Woods had been carrying on an affair with 34-year-old New York club hostess Rachel Uchitel.

Uchitel, it should be noted, has denied rumors of an affair and since hired Gloria Allred to handle her case, and media relations, from this point forward.

But who is Uchitel? A few quick facts (and factoids):

Fact: While a producer at Bloomberg News, Uchitel lost her investment banker fiance, who worked in the South Tower of the World Trade Center, on 9/11. She allegedly spent days looking for him near Ground Zero and, in this article from Germany's Bild newspaper, is pictured searching for him.

Fact: In 2004, Uchitel married Wall Street trader Steven Ehrenkranz, but the couple filed for divorce four months later.

Fact: After divorcing, Uchitel moved to Las Vegas and switched careers -- trading in TV production for VIP hosting at nightclub Tao. She's currently "VIP of Operations" (though described as a "hostess" in most reports) at the club Pink Elephant in Southampton, N.Y.

Says Uchitel, of her career, to "It can be difficult being a successful woman in this industry because being assertive is often misinterpreted as being a complete bitch. I take people's opinion of me personally, and that can be rough."

Factoid: Uchitel was rumored as recently as October to be having an affair with married actor David Boreanaz ("Bones").

Of rumored past romances, Uchitel said to blackbookmag: "Although I've been romantically linked to a famous baseball player, a Broadway star, a musician, and various film and television actors, I will never kiss and tell."

i have heard rumors that Prince Frederick von Anhalt had an affair with Tiger's wife too - but no one seems to want to talk about them. the media just isnt being responsible - where's larry king when you need him!

I understand that it's a hostess's job to make sure that her guests have a good time (all double entendres fully intended), but other than that, what are the professional duties of a nightclub VIP hostess? Ms. Uchitel strikes me as typical of a breed of New York party girl who likes the club lifestyle and has found a way to have rich, attractive men pay for it. If there's the occasional quid pro quo, well, isn't there always?

So is Clooney paying for Gloria Allred or does he just bail out buddies like Nick Cage?

Using the same logic as in the Morning Mix (Gyllenspoon rumor, hiring Allred), denying that she is a complet b*tch proves she is one. There's nothing in this in-depth look which would incline one to think otherwise.

According to wikipedia "Prince" Frederick von Anhalt is nothing special. And currently married to Zsa Zsa Gabor.

Liz the link to Bild says the pic is no longer "verfugbar."

Apparently using the words "fame wh0re" followed by the word "banging" gets the WAPO net nanny in a tizzy.

From that you can figure out what my original comment was.

The Bild page says, basically, "this Bild is no longer joinable..."
I think that means you can't leave comments?
But the photo is there if you scroll down. And it's a pretty pitiful photo.

sorry - was a passing comment on the pathetic and absurdist nature of this circus, an allusion to that long american nightmare 'who fathered dannielynn' (where "Prince" famously jumped the Anna Nicole shark on Larry King)... i'm sure you all remember - the story that the public happily gorged on in lieu of stories of increased overseas troop levels or impending housing bubble collapses...

oh look - overseas troop levels are on the rise again!!!

...perhaps it was a reach.

ep, I'm not sure the "fame" qualifier is totally necessary in this case.

Some of this news coverage makes this woman sound little better than a call girl, which isn't fair. (So typical -- Tiger is the solid family man and the woman allegedly involved is the trashy homewrecker, right?) First off she also worked in media, and second it sounds like nightlife is a longtime (and legit) family business/interest. The Vows column from when she got married notes that her grandfather owned El Morocco nightclub in NY, which was a rather storied spot ...

So, the German article says she is 32 when she is looking for her fiance after 9/11, so how can she be 34 now?

"I never kiss and tell."

In other words, she's admitting that she has had affairs with these people.
