Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes split
Crikey. Another lovely couple, another unfortunate and surprising split. This afternoon, lawyers representing Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes announced that the couple is calling it quits after almost seven years of marriage.
A statement to People.com read:
"Kate and Sam are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year. The split is entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement. Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children."
Winslet and Mendes began dating in 2001 and married in 2003. The couple have a son, Joe, six. Winslet's daughter Mia, nine, is from an earlier marriage to British director Jim Threapleton.
Mendes directed Winslet to a Golden Globe-winning performance in 2008's "Revolutionary Road," the story of a couple struggling with unhappiness after seven years (ahem) of marriage.
