Tiffany, Debbie Gibson to swamp-brawl in 'Mega Python vs. Gatoroid'

The "rivalry" between ‘80s pop stars Tiffany and Deborah “not Debbie” Gibson will finally come to a glorious, epic head in the just-announced Syfy movie “Mega Python Vs. Gatoroid."

While the musical superiority of “I Think We’re Alone Now” vs. “Shake Your Love” could be debated for the rest of eternity, the film will at least give fans a chance to argue about the acting abilities of the former teen-pop rivals. Gibson will play a snake-rights activist – the kind, it seems, that protects even the “Mega” variety -- and Tiffany will tackle the role of an alligator-defending park ranger. The two characters will reportedly “brawl at a party, then take matters outside into the swamp.” It's unclear whether they will duet as they did in this video, but for now, let's dare to dream.

In 2009, Gibson starred in SyFy’s “Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus” alongside “Are You Hot” judge (and actor) Lorenzo Lamas. In a move, perhaps, to one-up her former rival, Tiffany starred in “Mega Piranha,” which, according to the Hollywood Reporter, drew 2.2 million viewers. One can only imagine how great the ratings for “Mega Python Vs. Gatorioid” given the magnetic force of the combined star power of the former teen magazine cover girls.

After we finish silently mouthing the words "thank" and "you" to whoever is responsible for this film, let's consider some other ‘80s music adversaries that could benefit from a good swamp brawl. Vote for the match-up most deserving of its own SyFy movie in the poll below.

While Liz is away imparting her Celebritology knowledge to her soon-to-be-born bambino, former intern Sarah Anne Hughes -- who you may remember from a particularly silly St. Patrick's Day list -- will contribute posts from time to time.

I made my roommate sit through MegaPiranha. I can't wait to tell her about this.

And that is why one should never give power of attorney to ep.

"And that is why one should never give power of attorney to ep."

Or the remote.

My prayers have been answered!

I didn't know about Mega Piranha, but I loved Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus. It won my Captain Obvious Movie Title of the Year award. I will have to break my boycott of all things SyFy (the re-branding of SciFi to SyFy is *completely* idiotic) to watch this.
