2010 Emmys: Honoring outstanding variety show writing montages
Even when the Emmy Awards were at their dullest, one could always depend on solid laughs from one category: the outstanding writing for a variety, music or comedy program.
As veteran Emmy viewers know, the respective staffs from the shows nominated in this category -- your "Daily Shows" and "Late Night With Conan O'Briens" -- usually put together a laughably ridiculous rundown that "identifies" each scribe being honored.
But with the category scrubbed from Sunday's telecast -- the Emmy went to the staff of "The Colbert Report" during last Saturday's Creative Arts Emmy ceremony -- will those fabulous montages get their due in 2010?
The answer is yes, albeit via far less splashy airtime. Instead of appearing in prime time during the Emmys broadcast, the montages will be during the Creative Arts proceedings, which will be shown on E! at the always heavily watched time of 1 p.m. Friday.
So set your DVR if you want to see them. In the meantime, let's look back at montages from recent years, shall we?
From 2009 (Conan's Facebook bit? Priceless.):
From 2008 (once again, Conan takes funniest honors):
From 2007 (The Colbert slapfest ties with the Alberto Gonzalez/"Daily Show" mash-up):
From 2006 (a heroic underwater Jon Stewart triumphs):
