Celebritology Weekend: George Clooney's Metro station movie; Kat Von D and Jesse James make it official; Jerry Lewis has words for Lindsay Lohan

Three celeb-centric stories on our radar this weekend... In addition to his Oscar-winning acting skills, George Clooney man can wear a tux well. (AP) A movie named after a Metro station: George Clooney has settled on his next directing gig and it’s a political drama entitled “Farragut North.” New York Magazine’s Vulture blog reports that Clooney is in the midst of assembling the cast, which currently includes Philip Seymour Hoffman and Paul Giamatti. The Academy Award winner announced three years ago that he intended to adapt “Farragut North” -- an off-Broadway play about dirty nomination tricks, written by former Howard Dean campaign staffer Beau Willimon and, yes, named after that K Street-adjacent stop on the red line. According to New York Magazine, he plans to start shooting in February. But the real question is: will we see Mr. Clooney and co. shooting scenes here in Washington, especially given the actor-filmmaker’s...

In honor of 'Going the Distance,' we ask: Can real-life couples do big-screen romance?

The good and the bad. (Jason Merritt/Getty Images; Jennifer Graylock/AP) Posted by Sarah Anne Hughes Real-life couples playing on-screen lovers: Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes it is an epic disaster a la Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez in “Gigli.” Drew Barrymore and sometimes-boyfriend Justin Long have taken the risk and, apparently, it paid off in “Going the Distance” -- in theaters now. While the film has only a 48 percent positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, a good deal of the reviewers found Long and Barrymore’s chemistry to be the best part of the film. The Post’s Michael O’Sullivan says of the couple: “Whether or not the actors' on-again-off-again real-life romance helped their performances as lovers frustrated by geography … it's clear they have chemistry. ... They're a modern-day Hepburn and Grant.” I haven’t seen the film, but “Hepburn and Grant”? They must be pretty darn fantastic. Some...

Kat Von D and Jesse James: A timeline

Jesse James and Kat Von D, all smiles Thursday night. (Getty Images) Kat Von D and Jesse James are officially putting their relationship out in public. At the Thursday opening of her Wonderland gallery in West Hollywood, Von D was pretty vocal with members of the media, suggesting she is in love with the former Mr. Sandra Bullock. When a People magazine reporter asked if James was "the one" for her, she replied: "I believe he is, so yeah." She also confirmed to "Access Hollywood" that they are indeed a couple. (James, for his part, was less chatty. When People asked if he was happy, he said, "Yes." And when asked what he liked about Von D, he responded with a succinct: "Everything.") While they have known each other for many years, their romance seems to have evolved somewhat quickly. Here's a brief timeline:...

Most memorable movie moments of summer 2010

One of the many sticky, cerebral moments from "Inception."(Warner Bros.) Let's not mince words: The summer of 2010 was not exactly a triumphant season for cinema. While revenues were up (thank you, inflated 3-D ticket prices), attendance fell to its lowest point in five years. Those who did show up at the cineplex were often forced to sit through remarkably flat three-dimensional adventures ("The Last Airbender"), wretched chick flicks ("Sex and the City 2") and comedies that made us laugh only afterward, when we thought about how stupid we were for voluntarily sitting through them. (Oh, "Vampires Suck." You really were a gift that kept on giving.) But this is the Friday before the summer-closing, three-day Labor Day weekend. Let's end things on a high note, shall we? With that in mind, I have compiled a list of my most memorable moments from the summer movie season of 2010....

Paris Hilton's Twitpic of purse may impact defense in cocaine arrest; J. Lo 'Idol' deal back on?

Paris Hilton may have a purse problem. (AP/Las Vegas Police Department) Celebrity Beat: Paris Hilton's claim that the purse in which Las Vegas police allegedly found cocaine hits a snag when her Twitpic of said Chanel purse is revealed; however, police may have given purse back to Hilton instead of booking it into evidence, according to Radar Online; in further evidence that the heiress is having a bad week, a judge rules that Hilton did not live up to her promotional contract for the 2006 movie "Pledge This!" and may owe investors $160,000... Despite reports that a deal was off, TMZ reports that Jennifer Lopez is in final stages of negotiations to become "American Idol" judge... Jerry Lewis says during "Inside Edition" interview that he would smack Lindsay Lohan in the mouth if he saw her, clearly sending a message of charity ahead of his Labor Day telethon... Robert...

Natalie Portman, apparent soon-to-be Oscar winner

Natalie Portman, at the "Black Swan" premiere in Venice. (Associated Press) Evidently Natalie Portman already has this year's Academy Award for best actress all sewn up. At least the media buzz coming out of the Venice Film Festival -- where her "Black Swan" just premiered -- is making it sound that way. Deadline.com puts Portman in Oscar front-runner position based on reviews coming out of London newspapers. ("Portman is astounding," says the Times of London)....

T.I., back in trouble with the law. (AP) Update: More information on the arrest of T.I. Celebrity Beat: T.I. and wife Tameka Cottle arrested on drug possession charges after police smelled alleged marijuana emanating from their vehicle; the arrests were made after a traffic stop on Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood; T.I. was released from prison in March on weapons charges and is currently serving probation... Happy '90210' Day!

Today is a historically significant day, one that literally comes once in a lifetime. It's "90210" Day, a date (09/02/10) when numerology demands that we pay homage to Steve Sanders, Dylan McKay and the sexy, edgy dangers of the Peach Pit After Dark. To celebrate this momentous occasion, I've compiled a list of some of my favorite "90210" moments. Yes, there is a totally biased emphasis on scenes from the early seasons. And no, I am not including segments from the new "90210." Let's not engage in blasphemy on "90210" Day, okay? I'd rather not run the risk of being haunted forever by the ghost of Scott Scanlon....

Sean Penn on 'Between Two Ferns'

Sean Penn appears on the latest installment of the Zach Galifianakis interview program "Between Two Ferns," where he engages in a serious discussion about the issues currently facing the Haitian community. Just kidding! Actually, Penn just sits there and does his Academy Award-winning best to maintain a straight face while Galifianakis -- playing the role of Zach's twin brother Seth -- asks important questions, like whether Penn and Jack Nicholson frequent Long John Silver's and whether there's a Six Flags in Haiti. Enjoy. Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis: Sean Penn from Between Two Ferns...

When Emmy fashion policing goes too far

Suffice it to say, the world of fashion criticism can get a little mean. But it seems that certain rules should be followed here, one of which is: criticize in real time on the Internet if you must, but don't blast people's gowns on live television before the ceremony has even started, especially on the network hosting the show. On Sunday night, NBC broke that rule.

Conan O'Brien's TBS show to be called ... 'Conan'

Conan O'Brien's triumphant return to television finally has a name, and it's ... "Conan." Yes, as Mr. O'Brien reveals in the video below, he's following the "keep it simple, stupid" model and going with "Conan" as the name of his TBS show, which debuts in November. No word on whether, as The Hollywood Reporter contends, this name violates a trademark owned by Conan Properties. Hopefully it doesn't. The last thing O'Brien needs is legal trouble. (Update: the Post's Lisa de Moraes also shared this news and suggests the name has been cleared for use.) What do you think of the name? Weigh in with a comment or vote in our poll:...

Can George Clooney break the lousy Labor Day movie cycle?

George Clooney and Irina Bjorklund in "The American." (Focus Features) The latest film from George Clooney -- "The American," which opens today in theaters -- attempts to do something rare: bring a movie with class and artistry to the cinematic cesspool otherwise known as the Labor Day weekend. According to the critics, the results are somewhat mixed. Post film critic Ann Hornaday gives "The American" two stars and says that, "despite its sleek lines and a seductive polish" the hit-man-on-one-last-assignment narrative "sags under a fatally ponderous tone." That's pretty much in line with the Rotten Tomato score, which currently has a 60% "Fresh" rating from the site's top critics. Still, even if the Anton Corbijn-directed picture isn't a raging success, at least it's a respectable effort, which is more than we've come to expect from films that open during the usually dreadful Labor Day time period, that special black...

Zsa Zsa Gabor taken back to hospital

File photo of actress Zsa Zsa Gabor (AP) Posted by Sarah Anne Hughes Zsa Zsa Gabor, 93, has been taken to UCLA Medical Center after her husband said he found her "unresponsive" this morning. A source tells TMZ that her illness is not life-threatening and that the person who called "mentioned flu-like symptoms and body pain." Gabor underwent hip replacement surgery over a month ago and was hospitalized after suffering several health setbacks. The socialite received last rites from a priest before leaving the hospital earlier this month....

The Sandra Bullock 'Today' interview

In case you missed it this morning, Sandra Bullock's first post-divorce television interview aired on the "Today" show. Bullock spent most of the interview talking about her work in New Orleans with the Easton Charter High School, but did discuss her son Louie, his "regular poop schedule" (sorry, she said it) and the ability of her friends and family to keep her plans to adopt the child under wraps. The words "Jesse" and "James" were never uttered. Watch the whole thing below, and make sure you stay tuned until the very end so you can hear Ann Curry refer to Bullock as "delicious." The most intriguing new 'Dancing With the Stars' contestant is... Jennifer Grey

Jennifer Grey, set for a new round of "Dancing." (ABC) Obviously Bristol Palin is the newly announced "Dancing With the Stars" contestant who has everyone talking. Indeed, the Force -- and in this context, "the Force" refers to the potential to generate utterly absurd, highly watched reality-show drama -- is strong with this one. When Palin suggested during Monday night's "Dancing" announcement that her mother, Sarah Palin, might show up in the "DWTS" audience to support her daughter, surely many TV viewers had the same thought: "Lord, please let ABC seat her next to Snooki." (What, you think Snooki isn't going to show up to pump her fist after The Situation demonstrates how awesome he is at the rhumba? Please.) As intriguing as the possibilities surrounding Palin may be, though, I humbly suggest that another one of the new "Dancing" contestants presents even more fascinating opportunities. And her name...

Can three newcomers save 'Saturday Night Live'?

Dear Tina and Amy, I miss you. Please come back. (AP Photo/Dana Edelson) Posted by Sarah Anne Hughes I don't think I'm alone when I say that "Saturday Night Live" wasn't that great last season. Yes, it-girl Betty White's guest turn on NBC's late-night gray lady was pretty great, but the rest of the season's writing was lazy and (most of the time) painfully not funny. It was announced Friday that cast member Will Forte -- best known for his MacGruber sketch/feature film flop -- will not return for the show's 36th season. Of course "SNL" is a show with a lot of cast turnover, but it seems the show is losing its best cast members rather quickly. In the past five years, "SNL" lost Tina Fey, who also served as head writer, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Chris Parnell and Rachel Dratch among others. "SNL" received a huge boost...

Paris Hilton charged with felony drug possession

Paris HIlton: prisoner again? (AP Photo/Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department) Posted by Sarah Anne Hughes Paris Hilton was reportedly charged with felony drug possession Monday after she was arrested this weekend on charges of cocaine possession, according to court documents obtained by TMZ. She will be arraigned Oct. 27 in Clark County District Court, according to courthouse spokeswoman Jillian Prieto. Hilton has denied that the purse containing the 0.8 grams of cocaine was hers, according to the police report. She did say that money, credit cards and a broken tablet of the medication Albuterol found in the purse were hers. "While we were waiting for the female officer to arrive, Hilton said she needed to put some lip balm on, and I handed her the purse from the table," the police report said. A small "bindle" of what appeared to be cocaine fell out of the purse, the report...

Weekend box office: 'The Last Exorcism' beats 'Takers' in photo-finish race; UPDATED: 'Takers' is No. 1

"The Last Exorcism" (Lionsgate) Posted by Sarah Anne Hughes Update: Final studio numbers released Monday evening confirm "Takers" was No. 1 at the weekend box office. The heist film made $20.5 million its first weekend while "Exorcism" took in $20.4 million. In a photo-finish race, the faux-documentary horror flick "The Last Exorcism" took the No. 1 spot at the box office this weekend with heist film "Takers" at No. 2. But overall, box office business is down 6 percent compared to last year, according to Box Office Mojo. Find out if Sly Stallone's "The Expendables" has staying power, if Jennifer Aniston finally found box office love, and more in this week's box office rundown. "The Last Exorcism" and "Takers" were neck-and-neck all weekend at the box office, with "Takers" leading on Saturday. But in the end, "Exorcism" beat the Idris Elba film $21.3 million to $21 million. Both opened...
