Abby Elliott, Fred Armisen, Elisabeth Moss: Just the FAQ

By Jen Chaney

The most surprising celebrity-couple news of the past week -- you know, besides the fact that Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson have kissed in Canada -- is that Fred Armisen and Elisabeth Moss have reportedly split, and Armisen is now dating his "Saturday Night Live" co-star Abby Elliott.

Naturally this raises all kinds of questions. And that means it's time for an FAQ.

Question: So are Fred Armisen and Elisabeth Moss separated, divorced or just taking a break?

Answer: It's unclear. Best as I can tell, neither Armisen's reps nor Moss's have actually confirmed the split. The many, many media outlets reporting on this matter have cited Life & Style magazine (which originally reported that the relationship ended) or unnamed sources.

This much has been consistently noted: The "SNL" Barack Obama impersonator and the "Mad Men" star married last October, and went in separate directions in May. But it's unclear whether divorce papers have been filed.

Question: Were people at New York magazine really upset when they heard about this?

Answer: Very.

Question: So is Armisen dating Abby Elliott?

Answer: That's the rumor. Although, again, sources of the unnamed variety are the only ones being cited. The unnamed source that spoke to Marc Malkin of E! Online said the relationship is "very new."

Question: So who is Abby Elliott's dad anyway?

Answer: So glad you asked. He's the comic genius Chris Elliott, the guy responsible for one of the finest sitcoms to ever feature an R.E.M. song as its theme.

Question: Is Elisabeth Moss okay? Please tell me she's okay. I love Peggy from "Mad Men."

Answer: Not to worry, according to Life & Style! Yet another one of their unnamed sources -- a friend of Moss's -- says, "This news won't even phase her." (Who are all these unnamed sources? And is one of them that creepy kid Glenn who keeps calling Sally Draper?)

Question: Is this the last we've heard about this story?

Answer: Given that the Emmy Awards are coming up and Moss will be walking the red carpet, definitely not. I know that for a fact. I heard it from an unnamed source.

Not to detract from Chris Elliott, but Abby's paternal grandfather is no less than Bob Elliott of the iconic "Bob and Ray" fame (from the same classic radio era as Nichols and May, and Stan Freberg).

If this is true, the timing is awful: she's in this month's "O" talking about how the best surprise of her life was when she met her husband!

Don't you mean this news won't FAZE her? Anyway, I'm ambivalent. I always thought she was too good for the profoundly talentless Armisen, but discovering she's a Scientologist has me rethinking my profound respect for her.

Armisen was hilarious on Parks and Recreation. This is a puzzler of a breakup. Couldn't you supply a pic of Ms. Elliott? I'm having a hard time picturing a datable daughter of Chris (Woogie) Elliott.
