A Lindsay Lohan arrest warrant and a Paris Hilton plea

Big celebrity crime news today that involves two of Celebritology's most usual suspects: Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton. Let's start with the latest on Lohan.

As expected, in light of her recent Twitter admission that she failed a court-mandated drug test, a bench warrant has been issued for Lindsay Lohan's arrest, TMZ reports. The warrant is issued but on hold until Friday at 8:30 a.m. PST, when Lohan is due back in court.

Now on to Paris Hilton, who was in court earlier today, pleading guilty to drug possession and obstructing an officer in connection with her Las Vegas arrest last month.

Hilton admitted that she did have cocaine in her purse and lied about it to officers when initially questioned. That's right: This was a case of innocent-until-proven-guilty-by-Twitpic.

The Associated Press reported that at the sentencing, Justice of the Peace Joe M. Bonaventure told Hilton: "The purpose of this at this point is that you change your conduct. ... The Clark County Detention Center is not the Waldorf-Astoria." (Of course, if the detention center were a Wynn resort, she wouldn't have needed to enter a plea at all since she's not allowed to come near one of those.)

Hilton managed to avoid jail time but was sentenced to a year of probation. If she is arrested during that time for a crime that rises above a minor traffic violation, she could be sent to the slammer.

In both of these situations, Lohan and Hilton had to confess to their dishonesty and face the potential of more prison time. But can these truth-telling moments -- both of which, weirdly, were prompted by Twitter -- finally serve as turning points for these party-girl celebs? And, in a related question, should we dispense with all cops, lawyers and judges at this point and just let Twitter resolve all celebrity criminal affairs?

Lindsay, how can you fall off the wagon if you never climb onto it?

Probation for a year is hardly holding Paris accountable for her actions. Especially as she is a repeat offender. Any other non-rich, non-famous person who had already done time for DUI, would not get probation in a drug case.

No, let's not get rid of all the lawyers. Lawyers are people too. We need to eat. If not for the Lindsey Lohan's Paris Hilton's and Jesse James' of the world, lawyers would starve.

Oh lordy....In about 2 hours there is going to be a special on Lindsay on a show called "Issues" tonight. The host of Issues< Jane Velez-Mitchell, is a recovering alcoholic and has TMZ on all the time so she will definitely get to the bottom of this. Issues has done a great job covering this.

Lindsay please go ahead and you know, take the plunge--the 6-foot dirt nap plunge, that is. The suspense is killing us. Will it be today, tomorrow, next month? No one knows when, we just know soon. Come on---go ahead dive in, the ground is cool and dark--just the way you like it.......

The best punishment of all would be for the court to issue a restraining order against all news media from every mentioning either of these people again.

#1 Scrumble -- you are absolutely right!

#2 put these celebrities derrieres in jail and leave them there until they completely finish their sentence and give them some hard prison work to do -- like in the laundry room --

What a monumental waste of both print and bandwidth to give either of these spoiled brats any further attention. Let them rot in jail or off themselves. They aren't worth the air they breathe.

Lock these spoiled snot nosed brats up for a good while , maybe they'll learn , as it is they have no respect for the law or the court system , they figure they are above both and judging by the way they get treated they are right . "What a monumental waste of both print and bandwidth to give either of these spoiled brats any further attention" , I agree Larry , 100 % , it would be nice never to hear of Lohan in particular , ever again , I don't feel sorry for this loser , unlike most people with addiction problems she's got the $ to get the best help and for as long as she needs it and has had every chance , so cry me a river .

What a waste of life, both Lindsay and the reporters. The reporters should be fired for Trash News when there is so much more that is good with people and the hard times a lot of people are having. They are worse than Lindsay, bottom of the barrel slime.

Seems like they both get a handful of passes for their behavior.
Both are two spoiled brats. Should not be clogging up teh judicial system.
Sentence them like any average person, let them do the time. May be the wakeup call they need.
