Celebritology Weekend: Shia LaBeouf's coffee toss; Angelina Jolie not welcome in Bosnia

Shia LaBeouf tries to find a quiet moment outside D.C.'s Renaissance Hotel. (Photo courtesy Mark Wilkins) 1. Shia LaBeouf takes aim at D.C. photog: We could only get a few minutes of phone time with local paparazzo Mark Wilkins, who was on the receiving end of a cup of Shia LaBeouf's cold coffee this week. The local photog was in high demand after video of the incident hit the web on Friday. In a phone interview, Wilkins tells us he had only been snapping pix of the star -- in town to shoot "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" -- for about three minutes before LaBeouf suprised him with a counter-attack. Did LaBeouf say anything? "Not a word," says Jenkins. "He looked up and saw me, packed up his stuff, then it looked like he was thinking." Apparently, all that thinking led to LaBeouf beaning Wilkins with a cup of...

Peter Jackson confirmed to direct 'The Hobbit'

Much like the ring Frodo carries throughout "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, there is one supreme director capable of ruling the works of J.R.R. Tolkien and in the darkness (of the multiplex) bind us to our seats in rapt attention. That man is Peter Jackson and, after a long quest fraught with peril, he has at last been confirmed to direct the "Rings" prequel, "The Hobbit." Production on Part 1 will begin in New Zealand -- where set-building is underway -- in February, according to TheWrap.com. Sir Ian McKellan will reprise his role as Gandalf and Martin Freeman -- a onetime regular on the original U.K. "Office" -- is rumored to be at the top of the list of potential Bilbos. Director Guillermo del Toro ("Pan's Labyrinth") was previously attached to the project, but he left in May 2010 after two years of pre-production because of continued delays in...

Friday list: The scariest TV moments ever

In keeping with our month-long Friday List salute to Halloween, we could have done the obvious thing and spat out a list of the scariest films of all time. But since we did a list on cinematic childhood wreckers a couple of weeks ago, and most of us know which movies belong on a scariest-ever list ("Psycho," "The Exorcist," "The Shining," blah blah blah), we decided to focus on a medium that tends to get forgotten during discussions of horror: TV. When "Walking Dead" premieres on AMC in a few weeks, it could claim the new title for most terrifying TV show of all time. But until that moment arrives, we say that the most consistently nightmare-inducing series ever made is ... "Twin Peaks." Why? Because we couldn't even come up with one moment that most freaked us out -- there are too many. Ronette Pulaski's dream? Up there....

Shia LaBeouf throws coffee on D.C. paparazzo

Just when it seemed like the "Transformers: The Dark of the Moon" movie shoot had come and gone from D.C. relatively peacefully, this video arrived on the Web. The backstory on the clip, for those afraid to click on video in their offices: Shia LaBeouf, star of the "Transformers" movie, was in town with the production. And, like any human being, wanted to grab some downtime at a coffee shop. But some photographers wanted to snap some photos. And LaBeouf didn't like that so much. So, as TBD.com reports, he got up from his seat, packed his things, chased a photographer, threw coffee on him and ran away. Was the coffee throwing necessary? Better question: was it smart, when LaBeouf should have assumed that some other enterprising individual nearby had a video camera and was just waiting to capture the chucking of the caffeinated beverage? Personally, I like the part...

Spot the '30 Rock' live show differences

As noted by the Post's Hank Stuever in his review, the live episode of "30 Rock" ran pretty smoothly last night on the East Coast. And apparently the West Coast version had even fewer hitches. Want to know for sure? Watch each episode below and compare. New York Magazine's Vulture blog already found 17 differences between the two versions. Can you find more? Can you spot the differences? (For even more video clips, check out our TV blog.) TweetNote additional discrepancies (or just marvel at Jon Hamm's fake-hand awesomeness) by posting a comment or tweeting the differences you saw, using the hashtag #30rockdifferences....

'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' storm the web

Kelsey and Camille Grammer in happier times -- June. (AP) Kelsey Grammer only wishes "Frasier" had gotten this kind of buzz. And Tina Fey may be a little chagrined, too, since the season premiere of Bravo's latest installment in the "Real Housewives" franchise -- tracking the distaff self-absorbed egomaniacs of Beverly Hills -- is generating mucho buzz on the Interwebs the day after its season premiere. Which, coincidentally, fell on the same night as NBC's much-hyped (and anticipated) "30 Rock" live episode. The search terms "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," "Kim Richards, "Kyle Richards, "Adrienne Maloof" and "Camille Grammer" dominate Google's trending search terms this morning. The latter because Camille Grammer is none other than than the soon-to-be-ex of erstwhile sitcom star Kelsey Grammer. In an interview with the Associated Press, Camille (a former Playboy model) said filming the show helped her through her divorce. And, it appears, the...

'South Park' and Jersey: How the latest episode compares to the show's past celeb satires

It's a Jersey Thing "South Park" has aired on Comedy Central for an astonishing 13 years. As a consistent pop cultural force, it's gone the same route as its animated-comedy godfather, "The Simpsons": The show's satire is revered yet somehow often forgotten in the daily conversation about what's buzz-worthy on television. Then every once in a while, Trey Parker and Matt Stone create an episode that gets everyone talking and reminds America that Cartman and Co. have indeed continued to be funny long after "South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut" came out. That's exactly what they did with last night's skewering of all things Garden State-related, "It's a Jersey Thing." An episode that imagines a scenario in which New Jersey is taking over the nation (it does kind of feel that way sometimes, doesn't it?), the installment may be most notable for its less-than-flattering depiction of Snooki. And by less-than-flattering,...

'30 Rock' live: What could possibly go wrong?

The '30 Rock'-ers take on live TV. (NBC) Tonight at 8:30 p.m. ET, someone is likely to be totally Lizzing. And depending on how things go, it could be either Tina Fey's Liz Lemon. Or Liz Kelly. Or perhaps, any of the millions of other fans who tune in for "30 Rock's" attempt to snag some high rating by doing a live show. The Post's own Lisa de Moraes predicts a massive audience -- maybe not the 8 million viewers who watched 2008's season opener, but still enough of a viewership to turn any missed lines, breaks in character or miscellaneous missteps into a high-decibel fail. Of course, the "30 Rockers" are total pros. Fey, Baldwin and Morgan have gone live for years on "SNL" with nary an error. Still, part of the joy of non-prerecorded TV comes from the fumbles. So we are secretly hoping for some of...

Rumor Mill: Christina Aguilera files for divorce from Jordan Bratman

Aguilera and Bratman in 2005. (OK! Magazine) Christina Aguilera today filed for divorce from husband of almost five years Jordan Bratman. According to TMZ.com, the divorce petition cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split. A few more details: According to the divorce docs, there is a prenup. The divorce petition asks that "Earnings and accumulations of [Aguilera] before marriage, during marriage and from and after the date of separation" be considered separate property. On Tuesday, Aguilera and Bratman released a joint statement confirming their separation, but stressing that their "commitment to our son Max remains as strong as ever." Source: TMZ.com...

Rumor Mill: Marilyn says Gavin Rossdale fling was more than a one-time thing

Gavin Rossdale. (AP) It's a case of "he said, he said" for Gavin Rossdale and cross-dressing singer Marilyn. In a new interview with Details, Rossdale -- a.k.a. Mr. Gwen Stefani -- admits to an '80s-era one-time fling with the gender-bending singer. Rossdale, naively thinking he had a right to some kind of privacy, had previously denied the relationship: Details: Last year, the cross-dressing pop singer Marilyn revealed that he was romantically involved with you in your teens -- an assertion Boy George first made in 1995. Why haven't you talked about those claims? Gavin Rossdale: I think at the outset there was a sort of fear -- that was right at the beginning of Bush, and I didn't want it to be part of it. It felt like a cheap shot, so I was like, "I'm not getting involved." I've never wanted to appear closed about it. It's not...

'Transformers 3' in D.C.: Quizzing the fans

As many already know, "Transformers: The Dark of the Moon" has been shooting all week here in Washington, giving us footage of Bumblebee accidents, stuff blowing up and fake CNN correspondents reporting on fake news in front of the very real Capitol. On Wednesday night, we decided it was time that we spun by the set to do some hard-hitting investigative journalism. And by "hard-hitting" and "investigative," what we actually mean is testing the knowledge of several movie-production bystanders by conducting a "Transformers" quiz. Here, let's allow this video to do all the explaining (and quizzing) for us....

'Top Gun 2' is on. But what role should Tom Cruise's Maverick play?

In news that may instill a sudden desire to watch a shirtless volleyball match, New York Magazine's Vulture blog reports that a sequel to "Top Gun" -- the 1986 flick that transformed Tom Cruise from mere movie star into an American hero -- is being made. According to the report, Paramount has extended offers to both "Top Gun" director Tony Scott and producer Jerry Bruckheimer to join the project, and is in discussions with "Usual Suspects" scribe (and "Valkyrie" co-writer) Christopher McQuarrie to update the screenplay. As for Cruise, his Lt. Pete Mitchell will be featured in the movie but, according to Vulture, in a "smaller role" that isn't too "obvious." In other words, Maverick won't cameo as a flight instructor. But if he's not teaching young aviators how to buzz the tower or do inverted dives with MiG 28s, what should he be doing? Hey, thanks for asking....

Tom Hardy to be in the next Batman movie

Tom Hardy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt: At least one of them is definitely destined for Batman. (Warner Bros.) Tom Hardy was the breakout star of "Inception." And apparently director Christopher Nolan liked him enough to invite him to be in his next Batman movie. As Deadline reports, Hardy will have a lead role in the next, yet-to-be-titled Batman film, to be directed by Nolan. It's unclear whom Hardy will play, but Deadline implies he could be a major villain, which has led to rampant online speculation that he's the new Riddler, even though his "Inception" co-star, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, was already rumored to be taking on the part. The movie is reportedly slated to begin production in the spring. Rumors and online speculation aside, what is clear is that Hardy -- who starred in the little-seen "Bronson," and will be seen next in the big-screen adaptation of John Le Carre's "Tinker,...

Rachel Zoe pregnant?; George Michael heads to rehab

Three celeb-centric stories on our radar this afternoon ... Celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe attends the Louis Vuitton Ready-to-Wear A/W 2009 fashion show. (Getty Images) 1. She may weigh all of 85 pounds, but according to Us Weekly, that hasn't stopped super-skinny stylist to the stars Rachel Zoe from getting pregnant. Zoe and metrosexual saint of a husband, Rodger Berman, are reportedly telling friends that Zoe can't travel, and she was spotted sipping "water with lemon" at a recent event. Which, of course, must mean she's pregnant. I'll believe it when she's actually spotted eating food. [Us Weekly] 2. George Clooney brings celebrity and focus on the Sudan to Council on Foreign Relations

When George Clooney shows up at the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington, D.C., a few predictable things happen. For starters -- and most importantly, certainly -- he speaks at length about preventing more potentially deadly civil unrest in the Sudan, a time-sensitive concern given a January referendum that could split the north and south regions of the African nation. He also charms his way through a crowd of eager hand-shakers while making his way to the front of the briefing room. And, not surprisingly for wonky Washington, his presence attracts a mix of policy makers, scholars, journalists and outright gawkers who each have different reasons for parking themselves in uncomfortable chairs to listen to an hour-long conversation about the nitty-gritty nuances of international diplomacy efforts. Some make a point of noting how seriously they take the matters being discussed ("I actually write about this issue and the substance...

Talking with Edward Norton, star of 'Stone'

Edward Norton plays a prisoner tasting freedom in his latest, "Stone." (AP) Edward Norton is a movie star. But stand in the guy's presence -- in, say, a small, windowless conference room at the WAMU building in Washington, where Norton recently was preparing for an interview on "The Diane Rehm Show" -- and it doesn't exactly feel that way. In fact, when Norton first rises to say hello, dressed in a black button-down, black blazer and a pair of blue jeans, he looks less like an Academy Award-nominated actor and more like the CEO of an Internet start-up, or perhaps a more handsome version of the financial planner who helped you figure out when to refinance your mortgage. With his brown hair combed smartly in place, he certainly bears no resemblance whatsoever to the cornrowed arsonist he plays in his new movie, "Stone," which opened Oct. 8 in limited...

Hello, McFly? Eric Stoltz in his brief 'Back to the Future' role

In not-so-breaking news from 25 years ago, Eric Stoltz was originally cast as Marty McFly in "Back to the Future." But in pseudo-breaking news from this decade, we're finally getting a chance to see Stoltz in the role, now that footage from his five weeks on the job will appear on the upcoming 25th anniversary release of the "Back to the Future" trilogy on DVD and Blu-ray. I'm a huge fan of Stoltz. But he definitely looks out of place peering at George McFly and making time travel plans with Doc Brown in the clip, courtesy of the Hollywood Reporter, below. Then again, it's pretty impossible for me to imagine Michael J. Fox screaming "Prank caller! Prank caller!" into a telephone receiver in "Pulp Fiction." So maybe they're even. Here's hoping we get to see footage of Stoltz delivering some actual lines on the DVD....

George Clooney, making the rounds in D.C. to raise awareness about Sudan conflict

If anyone in Washington, D.C. is feeling a disruption in the celebrity force, they could be sensing the presence of George Clooney. The Oscar winner is in town today to continue his attempts to raise concerns about a possible political division in the Sudan that he and others believe may lead to more civil war in the troubled nation. In advance of a closely watched January vote on a referendum that could divide north and south Sudan, he is reportedly meeting with Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.) as well as President Obama; he'll also make a presentation this evening at the Council on Foreign Relations, where Celebritology will be on the scene. Clooney appeared on this morning's "Today" show to bring more attention to the issue. Whenever this guy speaks out on a subject, people listen. David Arquette opens up to Howard Stern about Courteney Cox split

David Arquette in 2008. (AP) Oy. Despite Monday's classy joint public statement from Courteney Cox and David Arquette confirming their separation after 11 years of marriage, Arquette called Howard Stern's Sirius radio show this morning and dished -- live on the air -- about the end of the relationship. "It breaks my heart," said Arquette, adding that he was "not the one that called this [separation] in order. I've been begging Courteney to get back with me." Arquette indicated that Cox had grown "embarrassed" by his "kooky" behavior. Well, Courteney, you hadn't seen anything yet! After today's interview, I'm guessing the separation will magically morph into a full-on divorce case by year's end. Listen to a clip here or read my handy transcription: "We got a trial separation a lot -- a while ago, not a full on separation and everything, but after our 11th year anniversary she gave...

Rumor Mill: Christina Aguilera and husband Jordan Bratman separate

Aguilera and Bratman in 2005. (OK! Magazine) Update: Christina Aguilera makes statement about separation to People magazine: "Although Jordan and I are separated, our commitment to our son Max remains as strong as ever." Christina Aguilera and her music exec husband, Jordan Bratman, have reportedly separated. Well, kind of. According to Extra TV, the couple aren't legally separated and have no current plans to divorce but are living apart while continuing to raise their 2-year-old son, Max, and work on their marriage. One source told Us Magazine the couple has been separated for "a few months," making this news uncannily similar to yesterday's word of the separation of Courteney Cox and David Arquette. Is this the leading edge of a trend? What's next? Will we find out that Nicole Richie and that guy from Maryland are, like, totally through? In light of the Cox-Arquette split, a status update on 'Friends' cast members

Cox and Arquette at a Feeding America benefit last year. (AP) The separation of Courteney Cox and David Arquette is one of those "this is technically none of our business" celebrity stories that nevertheless makes us feel a little sad. They were -- or are, since this separation is reportedly just trial -- one of those Hollywood couples that seemed just quirky and committed enough to go the distance. I mean, they're Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers, for God's sake. They're supposed to be blissfully married in the just-wrapped "Scream 4." (Speaking of, if Cox and Arquette really have been separated for a while, that must have made things a little awkward on the set.) Between word of this rupture and the news that Cox's fellow "Friend" David Schwimmer got married semi-secretly in June, this seems like a good time for a status update on the lives of our...

Andy Richter rejoins Conan O'Brien for TBS show

Richter (right) and O'Brien in the good old NBC days. (NBC) Longtime (and long gone) sidekick Andy Richter will be returning to his rightful spot at Conan O'Brien's side when O'Brien makes his TBS debut on Nov. 8. In a press release, TBS touted the pair's chemistry: A collaboration that began Sept. 13, 1993, O’Brien and Richter have developed a comedic chemistry that few performers have achieved. Through two late-night franchises and the recently concluded The Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour, Richter has been a consistent asset to O’Brien. The release continues with some appropriately flip quotes from Richter: "I'm thrilled to be going back to work with Conan, and very excited to start a whole new venture on TBS. However, I am mostly looking forward to getting out of the house again.” And O'Brien: "This decision was made without my authority. I will get to...

(Image courtesy W magazine) Kim Kardashian regrets posing nude for Playboy in 2007. So it makes perfect sense that the reality show regular appears on the cover of this month's W magazine wearing exactly nothing. The issue hits newsstands Wednesday, but four preview shots (including the one at right) are already available online. Sources: W Magazine, Popeater...

Lisa Rinna's casting couch close call; Keith Richards gave drug advice to Amy Winehouse

Updated at 4 p.m. ET. Three celeb-centric stories on our radar this afternoon... 1. Lisa Rinna's new book, "Starlit," includes a fictionalization of what Rinna described to PopEater's Rob Shuter as a casting couch nightmare based on her own experience as a young actress. "I lost a role on a BIG TV series because I wouldn't bend over a chair in a producer's office for 'just a quickie,'" Rinna says in the interview. "'Just pull your panties down and bend over and the role is yours,' he said to me." Years later when Rinna bumped into the same producer on a red carpet she reportedly told him, "I know everyone in this town and if you ever do what you did to me again to anyone else I will tell everyone your dirty secret." Gwyneth Paltrow also recently spoke out about her own close encounter with a casting couch offer....

Celebrating Columbus Day with Eminem, Anderson Cooper and embedded video

In fourteen-hundred-ninety-two Columbus sailed the ocean blue Which leads directly to -- (ahem) A bit of fluff on Eminem -- courtesy Gene Weingarten --- Let me drop some knowledge on you. If we have anyone to thank for the phenomenon that is Eminem, it is Dr. Dre. But today we can also thank Christopher Columbus for (arguably) discovering America, which led, eventually, to the founding of Detroit, the city from which one Marshall Bruce Mathers (aka Eminem) emerged to dazzle us (or not) with his wicka-wicka wordsmithing and hardscrabble story. Which in turn led to Em's being interviewed by Anderson Cooper on Sunday evening's "60 Minutes." Em opened up about his rough childhood in Detroit, his strained relationship with his parents, why he's been singled out for the anti-gay slurs in his raps (because he's white, apparently) and his rise from street rhymer to rap star. He also, most importantly,...

Sarah Jessica Parker: Third 'Sex and the City' film possible

Posted by Sarah Anne Hughes Say it ain't so, SJP! The actress told New York Magazine's Vulture blog that there could be a third "Sex and the City" film. "I don’t know the future; I would say that you never know what will happen with that particular franchise. It’s less about the reviewers than it is about the audience, and they’ve been pretty true, so we tend to listen to them more than anybody else," Parker said to the magazine. Indeed, the audience has been good to "SATC." The second film in the franchise grossed over $93 million domestically, with a worldwide total of $288.35 million, according to Box Office Mojo. Compare this with the film's dismal 15% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Alright, I'll admit it: I have seen both "SATC" films. Happy now? While I found the first dull but completely watchable, the second film was perhaps...

Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher: Working on marriage or world peace in Israel?

Kutcher and Moore. (AP) Original cougar Demi Moore and her husband, 32-year-old Twitter superstar Ashton Kutcher, are in Israel. And depending on which side of the tabloid fence one sits, the couple is either there to save their marriage (which has recently been plagued by rumors of infidelity) or to finally bring about peace between the Israelis and Palestinians. From People: "Sharing Love & Light while in Israel," Kutcher Tweeted on Saturday night, hours after the pair left from Los Angeles International Airport. "Asking 4 the energy 2 forge bonds with our similarities & find compromise in our differences." A source told the magazine that the couple is in Israel to attend a peace conference, not to "renew their vows" (as rumored) or do anything else that might constitute working on their personal relationship. Earlier this month, 21-year-old Brittney Jones claimed she had sex with Kutcher after meeting him...
