Mario charged with assault on mother
"Let Me Love You" singer (and one-time "Dancing with the Stars" contestant) Mario was taken into custody Friday after allegedly assaulting his mother, Shawntia Hardaway, in their Baltimore home.
According to The Baltimore Sun, the R&B singer was charged with second-degree assault and released on $50,000 bond. Hardaway told police Mario had pushed her in the chest and shoulder and that Friday's incident was not the first time he had touched her. The singer's lawyer, William "Hassan" Murphy III made this statement to MTV News: "This is an unfortunate incident between a loving son and a mother who continues to struggle with a devastating addiction."
Hardaway's relationship with his mother was chronicled in the MTV documentary "I Won't Love You to Death: The Story of Mario and His Mom," an account of his attempt to help her beat heroin addiction. [Baltimore Sun, MTV News]
