'Paranormal Activity 2' earns $6.3 million at midnight
The midnight screenings of "Paranormal Activity 2" got the docu-style horror flick off to a strong weekend start, bringing in $6.3 million.
That figure breaks a couple of admittedly irrelevant records, as The Wrap notes: most lucrative midnight premiere for an R-rated film, and best October midnight premiere, a record that was held oh-so-briefly by last weekend's "Jackass 3-D."
This makes it look likely that "Paranormal Activity 2" will be the No. 1 movie this weekend. But don't count out another otherworldly film, albeit of a wildly different sort: Matt Damon's "Hereafter" also opens in wide release today. Reviews have been decidedly mixed (I, like the Post's Michael O'Sullivan, felt largely lukewarm about it), but given the involvement of Damon and Clint Eastwood, adult moviegoers may opt for this over "Paranormal," which skews toward the heavy-Twitter-user set.
There's still time to predict what will be No. 1. Just vote in our handy poll.
