Randy and Evi Quaid reportedly arrested in Canada
Randy Quaid and his wife, Evi, have been arrested and detained in Canada, Reuters reports.
Update: The Associated Press now reports that a California prosecutor has confirmed that the Quaids were arrested in Vancouver. Their bail also has been increased to $500,000 each.
The couple was detained on Wednesday in Vancouver, the news service says, where they allegedly fled after skipping a Monday court hearing regarding charges they were recently squatting in a Montecito, Calif., property they claim to still own. Canadian authorities confirmed via press release that a man and woman were arrested, but did not identify them. A private detention review hearing was scheduled to take place today at Canada's Immigration and Refugee Board.
After the Quaids blew off Monday's hearing and allegedly headed to the Great White North, a California judge issued a warrant for the pair's arrest.
The couple is no stranger to missed court dates; they bypassed a few last year when they were facing charges of not paying hotel bills. Those charges were ultimately dropped against Randy Quaid, but Evi Quaid was sentenced to three years of probation after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of defrauding an innkeeper; they both now face felony vandalism charges as a result of the recent squatting case.
