Norwegian talk show gathers stars of the '80s for puzzling Beatles cover song video

What better way to close out the week than by watching Huey Lewis, George Wendt, Steve Guttenberg, Tonya Harding, Roger Moore, Philip Michael Thomas, David Faustino, Alphonso Ribeiro and basically every other bold-namer who we thought was safely stowed away back in the '80s sing "Let It Be" in front of a green screen in a promo for a Norwegian talk show? But, um, what is Glenn Close doing with this crowd? I guess "Fatal Attraction" qualified her for inclusion? Credit for this juicy find goes to BlogPost's Melissa Bell, tireless locator of really important stuff. (If your appetite has only been whetted, there's more after the jump, )...

Young Stephen Colbert? Ladies and gentlemen, we have our answer

Remember earlier this week when we posted the pic below -- supposedly of a young Stephen Colbert -- and asked readers to vote on whether or not it was in fact the "Colbert Report" anchor? No? Okay, well, anyway -- we finally have a definitive answer. But first: Fifty-one percent of poll respondents decided that the guy above was just "some random dude," though 40 percent were convinced that the man with the 'stache and patchy beard was indeed Colbert. Only a sliver of voters went for the other options: Robbie Bensen, Larry from "Three's Company," John Travolta's cousin or Al Pacino. So, is it him? The answer... after the jump....

Rumor Mill: Josh Duhamel escorted off plane in New York

Josh Duhamel, sans BlackBerry. (AP) Josh Duhamel was bounced off a flight at New York's LaGuardia Airport on Thursday, according to TMZ.com. Why? The "Transformers" actor and husband of Black Eyed Pea Fergie reportedly refused to turn off his BlackBerry before takeoff. From TMZ: We're told Duhamel's reaction infuriated the attendant, who then called for backup -- and the plane, which was already on the runway, was turned back to the gate. Two officers eventually boarded the plane and escorted Duhamel off of the aircraft. A rep for Duhamel told TMZ the star had been texting about the flight being delayed and "he's sorry." Source: TMZ...

Q&A: 'The Walking Dead's' Andrew Lincoln

Andrew Lincoln as deputy sheriff Rick Grimes. (Getty Images) You may not be familiar with Andrew Clutterbuck, a man with a name that even he admits sounds more hobbit than human. Which is why, for the purposes of his acting career -- which is suddenly red hot -- he changed his last name to Lincoln. You can catch him on Sunday nights in AMC's newest hit, "The Walking Dead." Lincoln plays the earnest, and decidedly American, Rick Grimes -- a small-town Georgia sheriff who finds himself leading a group of survivors through lots of gutsy escapades after zombies take over the world. How did a British actor (one who is most often remembered by Americans as a lovesick friend opposite Keira Knightley in "Love Actually") end up playing a Southern sheriff? "I always say I got it because my son had just been born and I hadn't slept for...

Kevin Bacon superfan bears a striking resemblance to Kevin Bacon

While I work on curating the rest of the morning's important celebrity and pop culture headlines, watch this brand spanking new video depicting Kevin Bacon's biggest fan. Hint: This, ahem, actor would totally shut down any Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon competition in a heartbeat. Sure, it's an advertisement for Google TV, but so well done it's worthy of a watch while lingering over morning coffee:...

Aretha Franklin calls surgery a success

Aretha Franklin. (Reflections Photography) [Updated throughout at 7:33 p.m. ET] Aretha Franklin is resting comfortably following surgery on Thursday. In a statement released to the Associated Press, the Queen of Soul says the procedure was "highly successful" and thanks well wishers for their prayers: "God is still in control. I had superb doctors and nurses whom were blessed by all the prayers of the city and the country." Franklin still hasn't disclosed the reason for her surgery. A cousin, Brenda Corbett, told the Detroit Free Press that the medical procedure took place around 5 a.m. on Thursday in Detroit, but that she did not know how long Franklin would remain hospitalized. "She's doing really really good," said Corbett. A prayer vigil was held Wednesday night in Detroit, attracting a modest turnout. Detroit city councilwoman JoAnn Watson led the gathering and invited fans of the legendary singer to say prayers from...

Q&A: David Hasselhoff on his reality, sobriety and 'Dancing with the Stars'

David Hasselhoff with daughters Taylor-Ann (left) and Hayley. (A&E) David Hasselhoff is sick of overzealous paparazzi, over-blown media reports and downright gossip. So, like any self-respecting celeb, he's gone out and landed himself a reality show. On Sunday, A&E airs the first show of "The Hasselhoffs," a 10-episode look at Hasselhoff's life as a single dad and at his two teenaged daughters, Taylor-Ann and Hayley, as they try to make their own mark in the music business. The former "Baywatch" and "Knight Rider" star has had a rough few years. In 2006, he filed for divorce from then-wife Pamela Bach. The same year, he severed a tendon in his right arm while shaving in a London hotel. In 2007, video of a drunk Hasselhoff eating a burger and listening to his daughter beg him not to drink surfaced on YouTube. Then between 2009 and 2010, Hasselhoff was allegedly rushed...

'Celebrity Rehab 4': Jeremy London, Rachel Uchitel, Eric Roberts try to sober up

The fourth season of VH1's "Celebrity Rehab" premiered last night with a brand new line-up of D-listers looking to get clean. This time around, we're spared the drama between Heidi Fleiss and ex Tom Sizemore, but fear not -- they've been replaced by Franken-faced Janice Dickinson, one-time Paris Hilton pal Jason "Gummi Bear" Davis and Eric Roberts (yes, that's Julia's brother and Emma's dad.) After the jump, a quick rundown of this season's cast:...

Britney Spears rep denies abuse reports

Britney Spears in 2009. (AP) A rep for Britney Spears released a statement calling a Star magazine report claiming Spears had been physically abused by boyfriend Jason Trawick "completely and utterly false." The abuse allegations came from Spears's one-time husband (for 55 hours) Jason Alexander, who also provided the magazine with tapes he claimed contained audio of a conversation between Spears and him in which she admits the abuse. Radar Online released more of the purported Spears/Alexander tapes late Tuesday, though an audio expert tells TMZ.com the tapes were "doctored." "The audio recording ... purporting to be between Britney Spears and Jason Alexander is so obviously fake as to be laughable," Spears's rep told People. Today, by the way, is Brit's 29th birthday. Ronni Chasen slaying suspect kills himself

Ronni Chasen. (AP) A man described as a "person of interest" in the slaying of Hollywood publicist Ronni Chasen killed himself when confronted by police. Chasen was shot in November as she drove home from a party after attending the premiere of the new Christina Aguilera/Cher movie, "Burlesque." Detectives tell the Associated Press they were serving a search warrant at a Los Angeles residence hotel when they located the man and tried to question him. That's when, police say, the man pulled out a handgun and shot himself. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The L.A. Times reported that the deceased man was known as "Harold" and had recently told one neighbor that he was about to receive $10,000. Sources: AP, L.A. Times...

Rumor Mill: Was Britney Spears beaten by her boyfriend?

(Courtesy Star magazine) It's been a while since we've had any drama from one-time train wreck Britney Spears. But Star magazine, in an issue out this week, claims Spears was hit by former agent/current boyfriend Jason Trawick and that she was once pregnant with his child. From what reliable source did Star receive this bombshell of a story? Spears's ex-husband. No, not Kevin Federline. The other one -- Jason Alexander, to whom she was married for 55 hours back in 2004. Alexander claims that Spears keeps in touch via phone, e-mail and texts and that she recently confided that Trawick "hit her so hard it gave her a black eye." Alexander, it should be noted, says he sold told his story to Star because he's "really concerned" for Britney. Representatives for both Spears and Trawick denied the abuse allegations when contacted by Radar Online, but the site claims to...

Is this a young Stephen Colbert?

Approximately 14 hours ago, Reddit user likepeterose posted the pic below, titled "A Young Stephen Colbert." This morning it was picked up by New York Magazine's Vulture blog, among others, and presented as the real deal. We here at Celebritology see the resemblance, but we're not totally convinced that this isn't just a snap from one of likepeterose's '80s-era golf outings. We've got calls and e-mails out to both likepeterose and Colbert to see if we can confirm the authenticity. Then maybe we'll get started on this one. In the meantime, have a look, then vote in the poll below: [Via Vulture]...

Randy and Evi Quaid talk to Esquire about preemptively solving their own murders

Mug shots of Randy Quaid and wife Evi after they were arrested in September. (AP) Since October, Randy and Evi Quaid have been variously in custody or seeking asylum in Canada. They fled the U.S. after months of legal wrangling, warrants and paparazzi chases, claiming they were the next victims on the hit list of a gang of "star whackers" that have already -- according to them -- neutralized Heath Ledger, Chris Penn, David Carradine and now Hollywood publicist Ronni Chasen. Last week, the Quaids sat down to talk with Esquire.com about their life on the run, their plans to stay in Canada and their enemies' elaborate stratagems to off them. Some choice pulls after the jump......

Victoria's big secret: Anne Vyalitsyna

I'm not sure what the point of the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is, aside from targeting the same audience that slavers over the lingerie purveyor's ubiquitous snail mail catalogs: the average male. In any case, the annual panty fest aired last night on CBS. Maybe I don't speak for all women when I say we're not particularly inspired to drop scads of cash on whimsical underwear after watching a horde of supermodels strut down a runway clad in bras and panties that, while making them look like, well, supermodels leave most of us resembling someone who needs a hug, a gym membership and a big soft bathrobe. So this one is for the boys, or anyone else who is busy Googling Anne Vyalitsyna this morning. Who is Vyalitsyna? Why, she's a supermodel who also happens to be dating Maroon 5 frontman (who was front and center for last night's show)...

Convicted Uma Thurman stalker back in police custody

Jack Jordan in 2008. (AP) Jack Jordan, the Maryland man convicted of stalking Uma Thurman in 2008, is back in police custody after allegedly trying to contact Thurman in late October, according to the New York Daily News: The former mental patient, who lives in Maryland, called Thurman's Manhattan office on Oct. 29 and was rebuffed by an assistant when he demanded to speak to the actress. Jordan, 39, reportedly insisted that Thurman's boyfriend "was not good enough" and that she should marry him instread. He was trashing Swiss financier Arpad Busson, whom Thurman has dated on and off since 2007. A day later, Jordan called Thurman's cell phone and was once again told to buzz off by an assistant, the sources said. He was arrested in Maryland just before Thanksgiving. A police source tells TMZ.com that Jordan was literally Googling Thurman's name when they arrived to arrest him....

What is up with Madonna's face?

At 52 years old, Madonna is still trim from rigorous workouts. She lacks sag in any areas of the torso that might be prone to sagging and -- since her divorce from Guy Ritchie in 2008 -- she's dated men (or at least one man) decades younger than herself. You go, girl. We have just one squabble with Her Madgness: Her freakish, plastic, Priscilla Presley-esque face which -- with every passing photo op -- seems to inflate like a Restylane balloon that has reached maximum capacity and threatens to pop at any moment. 'Winter's Bone' leads the pack of Spirit Award nominees

John Hawkes, a Spirit nominee for "Winter's Bone." (Roadside Attractions Via AP) As predicted, "Winter's Bone" dominated this morning's Independent Spirit Award nominations, earning seven nods for best feature, director, screenplay, lead female Jennifer Lawrence, supporting female Dale Dickey, supporting male John Hawkes and cinematography. The competition in the best feature category includes two films that "Winter's Bone" beat out last night for the top Gotham Award -- "The Kids Are All Right" (which earned five nominations) and "Black Swan" (which scored four) -- as well as Danny Boyle's "127 Hours" and "Greenberg." Most of the nominees were somewhat expected – Annette Bening and Mark Ruffalo each got a nod for "The Kids Are All Right," as did Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart for "Rabbit Hole" and Natalie Portman for "Black Swan" -- but there were a few surprises. A brief word on those and a full list of...

Ahead of Thursday's NASA announcement, what has pop culture already taught us about aliens?

No, silly, that's not an alien. It's 'The Simpsons's' Mr. Burns after undergoing a series of medical treatments. (Photo courtesy Fox) Contact with extra-terrestrial life. It's never-ending fodder for countless movies, books and long-running TV shows. And remakes of those TV shows. And movies based on the remakes of those TV shows. And TV shows spun-off of those remakes. Because, until now, there's been no real proof of alien life elsewhere in the known universe (no matter what Mick Jagger says). Come Thursday, that may change. That's when NASA will hold a news conference "to discuss an astrobiology finding that will impact the search for evidence of extraterrestrial life." (Full press release) Cryptic, tantalizing and seemingly ripped right from the script of a Hollywood blockbuster. Have we made contact with little green martians? E.T.? Tribbles? Body snatchers? Or, is this just NASA's splashy way of announcing the discovery of...

With Gotham Award win, is 'Winter's Bone' guaranteed a Best Picture slot?

Jennifer Lawrence in "Winter's Bone." (Roadside Attractions Via AP) The parade of 2010 movie awards and nominations officially got underway last night with the Gotham Independent Film Awards, the annual New York ceremony that honors a handful of indie movies and filmmakers. The big winner last night? "Winter's Bone," the story of a determined teen searching for her father against the bleak backdrop of the Ozarks, won the award for Best Feature, beating out more high-profile (at least in terms of star wattage) nominees "Black Swan," "The Kids Are All Right," "Blue Valentine" and "Let Me In." The cast also won in the Best Ensemble category, although young star Jennifer Lawrence lost the Breakthrough Actor award to Ronald Bronstein of "Daddy Longlegs." So what does this mean? In keeping with the extreme speculation that surrounds most things that happen during awards season, it either means: a. absolutely nothing; b....

Brad Pitt's leather pants: Fashionably frumpy?

Pitt in Paris on Monday. (Getty Images) Brad Pitt, who (let's just get this out of the way) is hot no matter what he wears, took another step into sketchy fashion territory at Monday evening's "Megamind" premiere in Paris. This time, Pitt sported a pair of what appear to be too-big leather pants that bunch and pool around his ankles, giving his gams (yes, men can have gams) an uncanny resemblance to rhinoceros legs. To quickly recap, Pitt's previous fashion fails include his Captain Lou Albano-style beard (only Brad subbed in beads for Albano's signature rubber bands) and 2009's unfortunate monagrammed loafer incident. As I pointed out at the time, the exceedingly hideous loafers were a gift from an assistant. Perhaps the leather pants -- which appear to have been made for a man approximately two feet taller than Pitt -- were also a gift? Or he's mayhaps expecting...

'The Walking Dead' -- Episode 5: 'Wildfire'

Warning: Spoilers ahead. Come back later if you haven't yet watched last night's episode, "Wildfire." Just in time for next Sunday's season-ending sixth episode, our ragtag batch of zombie bait has made it through yet another flesh-gnawing gauntlet (well, most of them have) and arrived at Atlanta's Centers for Disease Control. Before they arrived, though, we viewers got to meet Jenner (played by Noah Emmerich, otherwise known as Truman's best friend Marlon) who appears to be what remains of the CDC staff. As Jen and I noted over IM this morning, and Mike Ryan also pointed out in his Vanity Fair recap, Jenner and the CDC serve as the "Walking Dead" equivalent of "Lost's" Desmond Hume and the hatch -- a mysterious man in a mysterious place who promises to take the story in a new (or is it?) direction....

Leslie Nielsen: Joining the crew of the big 'Airplane' in the sky

"Airplane!" has been, hands down, one of my favorite movies since it crash-landed in theaters in 1980. I totally dug the corny jokes and sight gags at age 9 and still appreciate both -- along with the exaggeratedly goofy pop cultural references ("The Godfather," jive, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as co-pilot Roger Murdock) -- every bit as much 30 years later. The fact that I have 22 dialogue clips from "Airplane!" all marked as five-star favorites in my iTunes library should give you some idea of the importance of this movie to my humor sensibilities. Leslie Nielsen, (who died Sunday at 84), delivered some of the film's most memorable lines as Dr. Rumack, including (but not limited to) the infamous "Shirley" exchange: But Nielsen isn't the only "Airplane!" alum who has moved on to the big airplane in the sky. After the jump, we'll pay clip-show tribute to Nielsen's also resting-in-peace co-stars...

Leslie Nielsen dies at age 84

Leslie Nielsen: Thanks for the funny-faced memories. (AP) View more Nielsen photos Leslie Nielsen -- master of straight-faced ridiculousness, the comic actor best known for wooing Priscilla Presley as Lt. Frank Drebin in the "Naked Gun" movies and the man responsible for one of the most quoted lines in movie-comedy history ("I am serious. And don't call me Shirley.") -- has died at the age of 84. According to the Associated Press, he died Sunday due to complications from pneumonia. Of course, the film roles that immediately come to mind upon hearing Nielsen's name are the ones alluded to above: his turns as Dr. Rumack in the 1980 classic "Airplane!" and as Drebin in the "Naked Gun" series. But let's not forget that Nielsen first brought Drebin to life in "Police Squad!," a hilarious cop-show send-up that was so good, ABC naturally canceled it after just a few episodes....
