Before hitting it big, Robert De Niro tamed his dumb hair

By Liz Kelly

Thanks to Roger Ebert for posting the above vintage ad featuring Robert De Niro in what we have to assume were his pre-"Raging Bull" and "Taxi Driver" days. He'd hardly have needed the Heat Comb for Travis Bickle's mohawk.

Click on the image for a full-size version so you, too, can read about how to get a fine coif like Bobby D.'s. According to the manufacturer, the Hot Comb -- a combined hair dryer/comb -- was even able "make dumb waves disappear, or make idiot curls go straight." Obviously this copy wasn't written by Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce's Peggy Olsen.
