Kate Middleton's engagement announcement dress sells out
Well, this is a nice change for conspicuous blue dresses.
The royal (ahem) blue dress Kate Middleton wore when she and Britain's Prince William made their engagement public on Tuesday sold out within 24 hours, according to British Vogue.
Brazilian-born designer Daniella Issa Helayel, whose dress retails for about $617 depending on the current exchange rate at London's Harvey Nichols, is apparently one of the princess-to-be's favorite designers.
"Since the announcement of the royal engagement we have been inundated with requests regarding Issa," Harvey Nichols' buying director Averyl Oates told British Vogue. "The dress worn by Kate sold out almost immediately. Issa is one of our best selling brands and the versatility of the pieces mean that they can be dressed down for the day and dressed up for special occasions."
A similar, yet multicolored, version is available stateside from Neiman Marcus. A steal at $495, the dress features a "fit and flare silhouette" that promises to cinch one's waist and enhance one's bust.
The dress rampage, along with the rampant speculation about her wedding gown, place Kate firmly in the footsteps of another royal fashion icon: William's late mother, Princess Diana.
