Celebritology Giftology Day 11: Donate like the stars

Here's the 11th installment in our 12 Days of Celebritology Giftology series, a dozen posts designed to help you cross the celebrity- and pop-culture-obsessed pals off your holiday gift-giving lists. Think of these posts as our gift to you. We're just that generous.

Today's mission: Donating to a celebrity-endorsed charity in the name of a friend or family member. Only imagine the looks of wonderment when your loved ones open their "gift" to find out that instead of socks or movie theater gift cards, you've given them the gift of helping to build a school in Africa.

And, the best place to find out what celebrities champion which causes is looktothestars.org, a virtual clearinghouse of information on the world of celebrity giving. By its own count, Look to the Stars lists 1,620 charities and 2,362 celebrities. Surely there's something there for everyone on your list.

After the jump, some ideas for your gift list...

For the traditionalist: It doesn't get much Christmas-ier than Toys for Tots, the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve program that collects new, unused toys and distributes them to needy children. Celebrity supporters include Adam Sandler, Al Pacino, Courteney Cox, Jennie Garth and Tim Allen.

For the comedy fan: Comic Relief launched in the '80s with a series of HBO specials headlined by Whoopi Goldberg, Robin Williams and Billy Crystal. Turns out the organization that "uses comedy to raise funds and awareness for those in need" still exists and is championed by a slew of stars, including the hilarious Tom Arnold. Ahem.

Kid friendly: UNICEF's mission is to provide health, education, equality and protection to every child in the world. Right now, it is concentrating on post-earthquake relief in Haiti. Join the org's 131 celeb supporters -- including Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan, Gwyneth Paltrow and Penelope Cruz -- in helping to make the world a better place for kids.

For the ScarJo lover: Yes, Scarlett Johannson may be single again, but no, that doesn't really increase the likelihood that your drooling brother will now get his chance with GQ's Babe of the Year. But he'll forget all about the pretend rejection when you link him up with some of ScarJo's favorite charities, including Oxfam, (RED) and Heroes in Heels.

For the "Twilight"-obsessed: Hey, the guy only plays a sensitive vampire in movies. In real life, Robert Pattinson's a sensitive red-blooded actor who supports a few different causes, including the American Foundation for AIDS Research, PACT (an org that helps children with special needs) and Midnight Mission (an L.A.-based charity that works on getting homeless people to lead self-sufficient lives).

All my male friends are jealous because I regularly get emails from ScarJo. My family loved it the year I gave them gifts from Oxfam. Really they did.
