Natalie Portman engaged and pregnant

Natalie Portman -- who most recently played an unraveling ballet dancer in "Black Swan" -- apparently has the movie to thank for more than just Oscar buzz. According to a publicist for Portman, the actress is not only engaged to choreographer Benjamin Millipied (who she met while filming the movie), but the couple is expecting a child, due sometime in 2011.

“I have always kept my private life private but I will say that I am indescribably happy and feel very grateful to have this experience," said Portman in a statement to Entertainment Weekly.

Portman, 29, hit the screen as a precocious kid actress who wowed audiences with her performance as a pint-size hitman in 1994's "The Professional" and then went on to build a credible career in films as varied as the rebooted "Star Wars" franchise, "The Darjeeling Limited" and -- most recently -- "Black Swan." In 2003, she graduated from Harvard with a degree in psychology. She'll next appear opposite Ashton Kutcher in the rom-com "No Strings Attached."

In addition to being a choreographer, Millipied, 33, is a principal dancer at the New York City ballet who also had a small on-screen role in "Black Swan."

Here's a clip of Millipied talking about the making of the movie:

I'd like to get the Flying Spaghetti Monster's recipe for Bolognese sauce.

I always thought it was engaged, married then pregnant. I guess they had to make sure that she could conceive.

Benjamin Millipied must be one helluva dancer. How does he control all those legs?

Sas, you made me SPLOOT all over the keyboard!

Sas, as any good Pastafarian knows, Ragu Bolognese should be served with tagliatelle, not spaghetti. But I'll share my Bolo recipe if you like. Nothing else to do now that Natalie's taken...

So Natalie Portman found the only straight male ballet dancer? (I know, I know. It's a stereotype...)

BMore_Cat_Lover, I thought that was Baryshnikov (NP now hangs head in SMAME over perpetuating the stereotype).

Given the fact that it is last week of 2010, of course he child is expected sometime in 2011, she is not an elephant or a rat.

Well, I sincerely hope that Ms Portmann can defy the odds against success in celebrity marriage, and be a very happy lady for a long, long time!
I also hope she makes a lot of movies, because I very much enjoy watching them.

A degree from Harvard and yet still can't use birth control properly.

Squirrel, judging by how little body fat Portman had for that film, Portman may have been amenorrheic for quite a while and therefore thought she couldn't get pregnant till she gained back some of the weight she'd lost. Not that she should've been so reckless, but it's a possible explanation.

I always thought it was the size of the feet, not the number of feet.

_______
Not snarky, just sleazy. It is not anyone's business when a couple wants to conceive and start a family. Committed couples across the globe don't need to ask permission or abide by your rules.

Cadam72, is it hard to sit down with that giant stick back there?

Wow! the comments were all very ingenious and funny.

I hope Nat's child doesn't come out with V's face.

7900rmc, no birth control is 100% effective. Oh, wait-that's not true--the ugliness of your face is.

i've seen some ridiculous judgmental comments here about something that doesn't really concern anyone but ms. portman and mr. millipied.

some of you really need to get a life.

The most important question has yet to be answered:

Is she BAREFOOT, engaged, and pregnant....not necessarily in that order.

Posted by: sasquatchbigfoot | December 28, 2010 4:51 PM | Report abuse

"I always thought it was engaged, married then pregnant." Such naivete is charming. As my grandmother explained to me, well back in the 20th Century, first babies are often a few months premature :_>
