Young Stephen Colbert? Ladies and gentlemen, we have our answer
Remember earlier this week when we posted the pic below -- supposedly of a young Stephen Colbert -- and asked readers to vote on whether or not it was in fact the "Colbert Report" anchor? No? Okay, well, anyway -- we finally have a definitive answer.
But first: Fifty-one percent of poll respondents decided that the guy above was just "some random dude," though 40 percent were convinced that the man with the 'stache and patchy beard was indeed Colbert. Only a sliver of voters went for the other options: Robbie Bensen, Larry from "Three's Company," John Travolta's cousin or Al Pacino.
So, is it him? The answer... after the jump.
Alex Ogle, who originally posted the picture we found via Vulture on Reddit, tracked down the original source of the photo. It accompanied an interview with Colbert in Northwestern Magazine, an alumni mag for people who -- like Colbert -- attended Northwestern University in Illinois. So, yes, the photo is indeed Colbert.
The article has even more photos of the once-shaggy drama major and lots of juicy details about the real Colbert. He once worked in the school computer lab and was capable of playing a "fairly reprehensible high status idiot" even in college.
Thanks to Alex for doing a little digging. You can follow the Agence France-Presse journalist -- who makes his home here in D.C. -- on Twitter @Alex_Ogle.
