'30 Rock's' Jane Krakowski pregnant

Jane Krakowski on the 2009 Kennedy Center Honors red carpet. (AP Photo/Kevin Wolf) "30 Rock's" Jane Krakowski can now swap nursery decorating tips with fellow celeb moms-to-be Natalie Portman and Jennifer Connelly. On Friday, a spokesperson confirmed to Us Magazine that Krakowski and fiance Robert Godley are expecting their first child after the 42-year-old actress was spotted sporting a baby bump while on vacation in the Caribbean. "Both soon-to-be first-time parents could not be happier," said the rep. Krakowski and Godley, a British-born clothing designer, announced their engagement in January 2010. No word yet on the wedding or due date. Source: Us...

Talking with James Van Der Beek about Internet memes, Dawson Leery hatred and more

James Van Der Beek, Van Der Meme-ing. (Courtesy of James Van Der Memes) James Van Der Beek pretty much took over Funny or Die's Web site this week, as part of the Internet extravaganza dubbed "Van Der Week." From the riff on his Crying Face meme -- which spawned the Web site James Van Der Memes (see one example above) -- to the video in which he simultaneously reprises his "Dawson's Creek" character and acts as a sort of twisted Cupid, the new dad has made one thing clear: He definitely has a sense of humor about himself. Van Der Beek took a brief break from Van Der Week to chat about how all this viral video madness came about. In the process, he learned about the Taylor Swift/Jake Gyllenhaal breakup, and I learned that, at least according to Van Der Beek, Israeli guys really hate Dawson Leery. The...

Beastie Boy Adam Yauch is cancer free

From left, Mike Diamond, Adam Horovitz and Adam Yauch. (By Amber Novak For The Washington Post) ) Adam (MCA) Yauch is cancer free and ready to continue fighting for his right to party. Which is a big relief for long-time fans. Fans who perhaps saw the Beasties play the Cap Center in 1987 on the "Licensed to Ill" tour when they were censored by Tipper Gore and her PMRC and have been fans ever since. Not that I know anyone like that. Fellow Beastie Boy Mike "Mike D" Diamond, in a BBC Radio1 interview, said the group is moving forward with its new album, "Hot Sauce Committee II" now that Yauch had overcome his battle with cancer, saying "[It's] a good thing. We're really happy about it."...

Country Strong or country song: A pop quiz

Gwyneth Paltrow, ready to get the crowd riled up in "Country Strong" ... if she doesn't start sobbing first. (Sony) Gwyneth Paltrow's "Country Strong" opens in wide release today after playing in just a handful of theaters. And that means Americans everywhere now have the opportunity to watch Paltrow's Kelly Canter hit the booze, break down sobbing and coo over her adopted baby quail, which, of course, she names Loretta Lynn. (For more about the movie, read my review.) Actually, Paltrow does the best she can with the material she's given, which, unfortunately, is rife with implausible character motivations and some dialogue that sounds like it was ripped out of a bad country-western number. Which raises a question: If given the opportunity, could most people tell the difference between a portion of dialogue from the movie "Country Strong" and a lyric from a country song? The following quiz gives...

Film's best fictional bands: A video montage

This YouTube clip attempts to pack as many awesome non-real musical artists from the movies (and at least one from television) into eight minutes as it possibly can. And it does a decent job; kudos for squeezing Marvin Berry and the Starlighters, Spinal Tap, Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem and Wyld Stallyns into one video. But of course, it's hard to watch without thinking of the bands that got left out. Where's the Commitments? Hey That's My Bike from "Reality Bites"? Citizen Dick from "Singles"? And, to echo one of the commenters on this video, where is Sex Bob-omb? The video promises there will be a part two, so perhaps we'll see the aforementioned acts there. In the meantime, watch part one, then feel free to comment on which faux artist you wish had made it into the clip. Found Via IFC...

'Jersey Shore's' Sammi totally hated by tweeting masses

Apparently "Jersey Shore" fans learned a lesson from Justin Bieber lovers (a.k.a. Selena Gomez haters) and have decided that Twitter is a perfectly appropriate venue in which to threaten someone's life. Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola -- whose performance (which included an altercation with new roomie Deena) on last night's premiere episode of the show's third season enraged everyone from @sirmitchell to @JavonneGotCURLS, kicking off a flurry of threats that put Sammi into the list of top trending terms on Twitter this morning. @youreaphony summed up the sentiments of the "Jersey Shore" watching nation with this tweet: .bbpBox23352447116247040 {background:url(http://a2.twimg.com/profile_background_images/187031508/user-bg-image.jpg) #131516;padding:20px;} p.bbpTweet{background:#fff;padding:10px 12px 10px 12px;margin:0;min-height:48px;color:#000;font-size:18px !important;line-height:22px;-moz-border-radius:5px;-webkit-border-radius:5px} p.bbpTweet span.metadata{display:block;width:100%;clear:both;margin-top:8px;padding-top:12px;height:40px;border-top:1px solid #fff;border-top:1px solid #e6e6e6} p.bbpTweet span.metadata span.author{line-height:19px} p.bbpTweet span.metadata span.author img{float:left;margin:0 7px 0 0px;width:38px;height:38px} p.bbpTweet a:hover{text-decoration:underline}p.bbpTweet span.timestamp{font-size:12px;display:block} Sammi and Ron you better not ruin this season with your dramaless than a minute ago via Twitter for iPadThea Kamillayoureaphony But most of the tweets echo the...

11 movies to look forward to in 2011

Nick Frost and Simon Pegg, on the edge of their seats in "Paul." (Universal) The year is still relatively new. And for film buffs, that means 2011 still holds all the exquisite promise of a potentially terrific time for movies. (And yes, I am aware that both "Season of the Witch" and "The Smurfs in 3-D" will open in theaters in the coming months. But thanks for the distressing reminder.) For some, the key film to anticipate is the second part of the boy-wizard-battles-the-root-of-all-evil finale, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two." For others, it's the first part of the epic vampire-woos-angsty-teen romance, "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part One." As for me, there are a number of films I'm intrigued and/or excited to see, more than I can cover in a single blog post. I've whittled down the list to 11 titles, for the purposes of your...

"Jersey Shore" is back tonight; we step up with a handy drinking game

'Jersey Shore's' season 3 cast. That's the new chick, Deena, on the far right in leopard. (MTV) What could possibly be more entertaining than watching The Situation, Snooki, JWoww, Sammi Sweetheart, Ronnie, DJ Pauly D, Vinny, Grumpy, Sleepy, Dopey, Doc and some new chick make their return to the "Jersey Shore" on MTV tonight? Turning the season premiere into a drinking game, that's what. The rules are so simple, even someone who self-identifies as a "gorilla juicehead" should be able to follow along, though it may be helpful to consult our "Jersey Shore" glossary first:...

The People's Choice Awards 2011: A recap

You could have sat through all two hours of the People's Choice Awards and the inane banter from host Queen Latifah that went along with it. But if you didn't -- and for your own sakes, let's hope that's the case -- I manned up, soldiered through and summarized the major events in occasionally snarky, timeline form. Of course, not every award was given out during the telecast. (Those four trophies for Eminem? Didn't play a key role.) But the highlights have been hit here.

Josh Groban, singing the tweets of Kanye West

The following segment aired Monday on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" and started circulating Tuesday on the Web. But if you haven't seen it yet, it's worth watching. The headline above pretty much explains what to expect -- it's Josh Groban, at the piano, belting out the non sequiturs that spill forth from Kanye West's Twitter account. (Not unlike the old Twits videos in a way, no?) It's funny enough that John Mayer should be concerned. The People's Choice Awards: An FAQ

Queen Latifah returns to emcee tonight's People's Choice Awards. (AP) The People's Choice Awards -- a ceremony that defines itself as "the original metric of pop culture," even though most of us define it as the original metric of entertainment-industry nonsense -- takes place tonight in L.A. and will be broadcast on CBS beginning at 9 EST. Naturally this annual occasion may raise some questions tonight. (Question 1: Wait, why am I watching this again?) So in a preemptive, People's Choice-related strike, let's answer a few of those queries about the event and handicap the absurdity in a few of the key categories....

After the reported Jake Gyllenhaal and Taylor Swift split, a walk down memory lane

Gyllenhaal and Swift: A song about the break-up is undoubtedly forthcoming. (AP, Getty) As you may have heard or read overnight, Jake Gyllenhaal and Taylor Swift have reportedly broken up, ending a relationship that lasted all of two months. Actually, relationship almost seems like the wrong word here. Their affair was more like a series of very public coffee and ice cream runs. (Instead of bursting out with, "I think we should see other people," did one of them just say, "Hey, I think we should stop consuming caffeine and sugar together?") People magazine, among other outlets, reported the split, citing a source who claims the 21-year-old songstress and the 30-year-old "Prince of Persia" star called things off last month. Assuming things really are over, at least we can live with the solace that this pairing gave us so, so many memories. Let's recall them now, shall we?...

James Van Der Beek introduces James Van Der Memes and emotes. A lot.

James Van Der Beek, in mild sadness mode. (Courtesy of James Van Der Memes) We have passed the cultural point where Internet memes are based on celebrities. Now the celebrities create the memes themselves. The latest example: James Van Der Beek, who understands the online popularity of a certain image of him crying on "Dawson's Creek" and has decided to take things a step further. Hence, he has given us James Van Der Memes, a site devoted to animated gifs of the "Varsity Blues" star having emotional reactions that serve as potential, more handsome versions of emoticons. (Because why use a colon and an open parenthesis to indicate your depression when you can go with "mild Van Der Beek sadness," as captured above?) A reading from the book of Snooki

(Courtesy Gallery Books) I really tried to read Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi's new book, "A Shore Thing." As an enthusiastic "Jersey Shore" fan, I eagerly downloaded Snook's first (ahem) fictional work when it was released earlier today. I wasn't able to get through chapter one. Yes, it's that bad. Somehow, watching a group of vapid 20-somethings get drunk, fight and hop into bed with each other indiscriminately makes for good TV. In book form, however, it reads like a D-list Harlequin romance left to molder in a dirty ashtray. To wit: "...casual sex with at least a couple of guys was also on her list of summer goals." So, rather than reviewing the entire book, I've selected a few choice passages from the first chapter and used my favorite Web animation tool to create this video (after the jump):...

Glenn Close calls use of her image in Navy video 'deeply offensive and insulting' [Exclusive]

Glenn Close in a screengrab from Capt. Owen Honors's naval swan song. (Courtesy of the Virginian-Pilot) Glenn Close, via her publicist, contacted Celebritology on Tuesday to make a statement in response to her unwitting appearance in a lewd video made by Navy Capt. Owen Honors, who was relieved of his command of the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise on Tuesday. As we reported yesterday, Close appears briefly in a montage at the end of the video -- which also features homophobic remarks, simulated masturbation, partial nudity and generally idiotic attempts at humor. "I am distraught that my image has been used to perpetuate something that I abhor," said Close via publicist Catherine Olim. "The cynical, unauthorized use of my image in this video is deeply offensive and insulting, and was the result of a seemingly innocent request of me during a visit to the aircraft carrier over four years ago."...

(AP) Dr. Conrad Murray, who has been charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter in the 2009 death of Michael Jackson, is due in court Tuesday for the first day of preliminary hearings to determine whether there is enough evidence to hold a full trial. The prosecution will present its case and 30 witnesses -- including police, medical experts and the coroner -- are expected to appear at the hearing, which will be attented by Jackson's family. Bill Erwin, otherwise known as 'the old man' from 'Seinfeld,' dies

Bill Erwin was a character actor with a lengthy, varied resume that included appearances in everything from "A Streetcar Named Desire" and "Home Alone" to episodes of "Perry Mason" and "Star Trek: The Next Generation." But above all else, he was known as Sid Fields, the cranky old man to whom Jerry Seinfeld attempts to offer companionship in the episode "The Old Man." Erwin died over the holidays at 96. He passed away on Dec. 29, and the L.A. Times reported his death on Jan. 1, but the news is spreading today on the Internet, conferring Google "hot topic" status on Erwin. In his honor, let's remember Erwin's Emmy-nominated work on that classic, season-four "Seinfeld" episode, a turn that allowed him to bite Kramer in the arm, have his dentures destroyed by a garbage disposal and call Jerry a fool and an idiot. Enjoy some of his work here: And...

Lindsay Lohan (who may or may not be out of rehab) facing 180 days in jail?

Lindsay Lohan attends a probation revocation hearing in July. (Getty Images) Let's get this out of the way first: Depending on the source, Lindsay Lohan has either left rehab, is still there or is using "going to the gym" as some kind of code. In other news (that may make Lilo want to stay lost for the time being), CNN is reporting that Lohan may have violated her probation when she allegedly got into an altercation with a Betty Ford Center staffer in December:...

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez: The Twitter response

After photos of Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez kissing leaked on the Internet Monday, the Twitter-verse naturally blew up with expressions of outrage, shock, positive thoughts for the seemingly happy couple and, of course, threats against Gomez's life. And the Tweets are still rolling in. Here's a round-up of some of the more, um, notable comments, which provide a sense of the spectrum of emotions sparked by the most controversial canoodling of our time. Or at least of 2011 so far. This Tweeter bluntly suggests that the star of "The Wizards of Waverly Place" must die. And she's not the only one. .bbpBox22144864913203200 {background:url(http://a3.twimg.com/a/1292975674/images/themes/theme1/bg.png) #C0DEED;padding:20px;} p.bbpTweet{background:#fff;padding:10px 12px 10px 12px;margin:0;min-height:48px;color:#000;font-size:18px !important;line-height:22px;-moz-border-radius:5px;-webkit-border-radius:5px} p.bbpTweet span.metadata{display:block;width:100%;clear:both;margin-top:8px;padding-top:12px;height:40px;border-top:1px solid #fff;border-top:1px solid #e6e6e6} p.bbpTweet span.metadata span.author{line-height:19px} p.bbpTweet span.metadata span.author img{float:left;margin:0 7px 0 0px;width:38px;height:38px} p.bbpTweet a:hover{text-decoration:underline}p.bbpTweet span.timestamp{font-size:12px;display:block} @selenagomez I hate you. Is Lindsay Lohan still in rehab?

In October, Lindsay Lohan arrives at court for her probation violation hearing. (Reuters) [Updated throughout. Originally posted at 10:01 a.m. ET] Despite reports that she left the Betty Ford Center on Monday after 90 days, Lindsay Lohan herself is denying that she's done with rehab. "I didn't leave [rehab]," said Lohan in a statement to the site Gossip Cop. "[I'm] going to the gym," she added. She may want to call mom Dina, who confirmed Lilo's release to E! News, saying, "It's a great day." Lohan also denied that she is moving out of her Los Angeles apartment, despite TMZ's report that her stuff was toted from the dowtown L.A. apartment to a $7,100-a-month Venice beach house. But, stay tuned, Lohan is free to leave at any moment. In October, a judge ordered Lohan to stay in rehab through Jan. 3. Earlier today, reps said the actress "may stay...

Mila Kunis and Macaulay Culkin split

Mila Kunis in 2009's "Extract." (Miramax Film Corp.) Macaulay Culkin is, we presume, home alone after a rep for "Black Swan" co-star Mila Kunis confirmed to the New York Post's Page Six that the couple has broken up. "The split was amicable, and they remain close friends," her rep said in a statement. And they aren't the first celeb couple to call it quits in the new year. As reported in the Morning Mix, John Mellencamp and wife Elaine Irwin announced plans to divorce and (if anyone even cares) Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach split from his wife of 20 years. This is a continuation of a trend that started in December, when Scarlett Johannson and Ryan Reynolds and Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens announced their respective splits on the same tragic day. Actor Pete Postlethwaite dies

Pete Postlethwaite. (Reuters) British actor Pete Postlethwaite, who director Steven Spielberg once described as "probably the best actor in the world today," is dead at 64 after a long fight with cancer. The actor had roles in two Spielberg films: "Jurassic Park" and "Amistad." His response to Spielberg's remark was, "I'm sure what Spielberg actually said was, 'The thing about Pete is that he thinks he's the best actor in the world.'" Postlethwaite received an Oscar nomination for his powerful performance in 1993's "In the Name of the Father." He co-starred with Daniel Day-Lewis as one of four men wrongfully accused of a London IRA bombing....

Zsa Zsa Gabor's lower leg to be amputated; David Arquette enters rehab

Gabor in 1996. (Getty Images) Zsa Zsa Gabor -- whose health has been precarious for the past few years -- was rushed to the hospital over the weekend to have the lower portion of her leg amputated. The actress had reportedly developed a lesion on her leg that had grown from an inch to one foot in length. Doctors had wanted to take action earlier to avoid gangrene, but Gabor -- and husband Fredieric von Anhalt -- wanted to spend New Year's Eve at home sharing "champagne and caviar." Three epic fails -- and one win -- from the holiday weekend box office

Yes, Mr. De Niro. We are No. 1 at the box office again. But at what cost? (Glen Wilson/Universal) The movie business didn't exactly kick off the new year in resoundingly positive fashion. In fact, there was more bad news than good to be gleaned from the latest box office results. And really, what can you expect when the No. 1 film in America -- for two consecutive weeks, mind you -- contains the word "Fockers" in the title? We run down a list of three key holiday-season box office fails -- and one potentially happy note for the organizers of the Academy Awards -- as well as the list of the top five movies in the country, after the jump....
