'Portlandia': A sneak peek

Can Fred Armisen succeed at sketch comedy outside of "Saturday Night Live"? He gives it a try, starting tonight in "Portlandia," a half-hour of hipster-hilarious vignettes co-starring Carrie Brownstein, formerly of Sleater-Kinney. Based on these two clips (see above and below) it just might be worth watching. And I say that as someone who often tries to watch Netflix while texting and Facebooking at the same time (again, see above) and as someone who feels an inexplicable pressure to have read that thing about the National in Paste and that steampunk article on Boing Boing (again, see below). The show airs at 10:30 p.m. EST on IFC....

The Oscars 2011: Predicting the supporting actor and actress nominees

Mila Kunis: in or out as an Oscar nominee? (Fox Searchlight) Now that we've all had a few days to breathe since Sunday's Golden Globe Awards, it's time to start prognosticating again. The Academy Award nominations will be announced Tuesday. After reading the tea leaves -- or at least reading other movie sites and film blogs -- and checking my own gut feelings, I'm ready to lay out who I think will be nominated in the six Oscar categories: best picture, director, actor, actress and supporting actor and actress. Let's start today with the supporting categories. And yes, you can weigh in with a comment, or by ranking potential nominees yourself via the user polls that follow....

Ivanka Trump is -- you guessed it -- pregnant

Tying the knot: Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump (Getty Images) Well, it doesn't quite rank right up there with Natalie Portman baby news, but we thought you'd want to know that Ivanka Trump -- former model, jewelry designer and "Celebrity Apprentice" co-host -- is also in the family way. A source tells Us magazine that Trump and husband Jared Kushner are due sometime this summer. Trump, 29, shared the news by -- of course -- tweeting it out to her 901,431 followers on Friday, writing: .bbpBox28483324003491840 {background:url(http://a3.twimg.com/profile_background_images/116401600/CORAL.JPG) #C0DEED;padding:20px;} p.bbpTweet{background:#fff;padding:10px 12px 10px 12px;margin:0;min-height:48px;color:#000;font-size:18px !important;line-height:22px;-moz-border-radius:5px;-webkit-border-radius:5px} p.bbpTweet span.metadata{display:block;width:100%;clear:both;margin-top:8px;padding-top:12px;height:40px;border-top:1px solid #fff;border-top:1px solid #e6e6e6} p.bbpTweet span.metadata span.author{line-height:19px} p.bbpTweet span.metadata span.author img{float:left;margin:0 7px 0 0px;width:38px;height:38px} p.bbpTweet a:hover{text-decoration:underline}p.bbpTweet span.timestamp{font-size:12px;display:block} I have been wanting to share some amazing news with you all for some time... Roger Ebert debuts brand new chin ahead of brand new show

(Courtesy the Chicago Sun-Times) "I will wear the prosthesis on the new television show. That's not to fool anyone, because my appearance is widely known. It will be used in a medium shot of me working in my office, and will be a pleasant reminder of the person I was for 64 years." -- Film critic Roger Ebert on his new silicone face prosthesis. George Clooney isn't the only celeb to battle malaria

George Clooney during a to Southern Sudan in early January. (AP) We can all heave a sigh of relief knowing that George Clooney is safely over his bout with malaria and will park his healthy bod in a chair tonight opposite new CNN talker Piers Morgan to discuss how he contracted the parasitic disease and his efforts to raise awareness about the situation in Sudan. According to a publicist, this was Clooney's second bout with malaria and he says his own experience shows how proper medication can turn "the most lethal condition in Africa" into "a bad 10 days instead of a death sentence." It turns out Clooney isn't the only celeb to have contracted malaria. After the jump, two fellow bold-namers who shared the dreaded mosquito-borne disease....

(CNN) Russell Brand may join cast of "Rock of Ages" ... and sing "Can't Fight This Feeling" with Alec Baldwin? (Vulture) Slash refused to let the producers of "Glee" use Guns N' Roses songs on the show. Why? "Glee is worse than Grease and Grease is bad enough. Beyonce to star in 'A Star is Born,' directed by Clint Eastwood

Beyonce: Baby, she's a "Star." (AP) Deadline is reporting some surprising casting news that just might trump the Anne Hathaway/Catwoman headlines. Beyonce has been cast in a remake of "A Star is Born," to be directed by Clint Eastwood. This marks the biggest starring role to date for the former member of Destiny's Child, who has either been part of an ensemble or turned in supporting performances in previous films like "Dreamgirls," "Cadillac Records" and "Obsessed." In this film, she would definitely be the above-the-marquee name in an extraordinarily juicy role. "A Star is Born" -- the story of a talented, ambitious starlet whose career transforms thanks to the alcoholic, aging actor who falls in love with her -- debuted in 1937 with Janet Gaynor in the lead role, was remade in 1954 with Judy Garland and then remade again in 1976 with Barbra Streisand. Can Beyonce meet or...

Jesse James and Kat Von D engaged

(Getty Images) Remember Jesse James, the husband who stepped out on Oscar-winner Sandra Bullock with a possibly Nazi-sympathizing tattooed model? Yeah, well, he's engaged. The lucky lady is none other than TLC tattoo queen Kat Von D. In a statement to People, James said: "You know sometimes the public and press gets it wrong. This is one of those times. 2010 was actually the best year of my life because I fell in love with my best friend. An amazing woman who stood behind me when the world turned their backs. I have never met anyone so kind and loving and committed to making the world a better place every day. My love for her is beyond description. So honored that she said 'yes.' Growing old with her is going to be a f----n' blast!" In March, James publicly apologized to Bullock for his "poor judgment" after it surfaced...

Ricky Gervais: After the Golden Globes, it's back to 'The Office'

Ricky Gervais. (HBO) America, Ricky Gervais isn't done with us yet. Next stop? Scranton, Pa. With Sunday's controversial Golden Globes-hosting gig still fresh in our minds, today comes news that Gervais will reprise his role as David Brent -- the original boss of the U.K. version of "The Office" -- on the Steve Carell-led stateside version. The cameo will reportedly air on Jan. 27. Though details are sketchy, Gervais will -- according to Michael Ausiello -- run into his American counterpart. Comedy, we assume, ensues. This isn't Gervais' first foray into scripted TV for Yanks. His show "Extras," originally created for the BBC, also aired on HBO for two seasons. Gervais also penned an episode of "The Simpsons" and an episode, "The Convict," of the American version of "The Office." poll by twiigs.com Source: TVLine.com Related: Should Ricky Gervais return as Golden Globes host? More Anne Hathaway news: She's been cast as Catwoman

Anne Hathaway, cast in "The Dark Knight Rises." (AP) Anne Hathaway might be the female ruler of Hollywood right now. The Oscars co-host and apparent upcoming "Glee" co-star has now been cast as Catwoman in "The Dark Knight Rises." As announced today by Warner Bros, Hathaway will play the feline female lead opposite Christian Bale in the third of Christopher Nolan's Batman films. Hathaway won the coveted role despite reported competition from the likes of Keira Knightley and Jessica Biel. So let's see ... Julie Newmar. Lee Meriwether. Eartha Kitt. Michelle Pfeiffer. Halle Berry (we know, that one barely counts). And now, Anne Hathaway. A solid casting choice, in your humble opinion? Or would someone else have been better? Does George Lucas think the world will end in 2012?

George Lucas: Have Death Star, will travel? My incredulity meter is going way off the charts on this one, but apparently Seth Rogen had a recent encounter with George Lucas in which the "Star Wars" mastermind shared his theories about when the world will end. Which would be next year. Just fyi. The "Green Hornet" actor was reportedly meeting with Steven Speilberg when, in quotes attributed to Rogen, "George Lucas sits down and seriously proceeds to talk for around 25 minutes about how he thinks the world is gonna end in the year 2012, like, for real. He thinks it."...

Anne Hathaway reportedly will play Kurt's lesbian aunt on 'Glee'

Anne Hathaway, "Glee"-bound. (NBC/AP) In yet another bit of high-profile "Glee" guest-casting, Anne Hathaway has apparently signed on to appear on the show. Her role: She'll star as the lesbian aunt of Kurt, played by Golden Globe winner Chris Colfer. MTV and other outlets are reporting the news, which was originally broken during E!'s post-Golden Globes show. (Somehow in the fog of Gervais jokes and Helena Bonham Carter dresses, we missed this.) It's unclear when the episode will shoot, when it will air or whether it will impact Colfer's oft-stated dream of getting Julie Andrews (Hathaway's "Princess Diaries" co-star) to play Kurt's grandmother. What we do know is that Lesbian Aunt on "Glee" adds yet another primo item to Hathaway's resume after a year in which she's played a phone sex operator ("Valentine's Day"), a Parkinson's disease patient ("Love & Other Drugs") and soon-to-be Oscar host (real life). Who should replace Regis Philbin? We have six ideas. We're not claiming they're good ideas.

Clockwise from top left: Larry King (Getty Images), Kathie Lee Gifford (AP), Neil Patrick Harris (Reuters), Betty White (Getty Images), Jay Leno (Reuters), Ricky Gervais (Reuters). Gallery: Regis through the years Crestfallen fans of Regis Philbin have now had 24 hours to process the news that he plans to retire, at least from "Live with Regis and Kelly," by the end of the year. And so it is that we must move on, or risk coming apart at the seams as old-format TV talk continues to deteriorate. But can the show, which Philbin originated 28 years ago, survive without Reeg? It's doubtful that another 79-year-old with his moxie and ability to mix-it-up with everyone on lists A through D exists. But, in the spirit of keeping the show alive, we offer six candidates who could reinvigorate the format and make it must-watch morning viewing....

Watch the new 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' teaser trailer

What is the deal with shows that won't go away? Larry David. (Reuters) When we're talking about the "Real Housewives" franchise, the deal is raw, my friends. But we're not. We're talking about Larry David and his quirky, acquired-taste HBO comedy "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and so we're cautiously optimistic. Yes, the show we all thought was pretty, pretty finished when it last aired in 2009 -- when the "Seinfeld" principals (Jerry Seinfeld, Jason Alexander, Michael Richards and Julia Louis-Dreyfus) reunited and finally ended both shows (or so we thought) in a rare chance at re-doing the original (lame) "Seinfeld" closer -- is coming back sometime this year. Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban welcome second daughter

Proud (and secret) new parents Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban at the Golden Globes. (AP) Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have welcomed another child into their family. People magazine reports that the "Rabbit Hole" star and country performer are the parents of a baby girl named Faith Margaret Kidman Urban, who was delivered in December by a gestational carrier. This is the couple's second child; they have a two-year-old, Sunday Rose, to whom Kidman gave birth in 2008. Kidman also has two adopted children, Isabella and Connor, with ex-husband Tom Cruise. Kidman and Urban kept the child's arrival into the world a secret, not mentioning it in any of their Golden Globe interviews. Today they shared the news by releasing a statement: "Our family is truly blessed, and just so thankful, to have been given the gift of baby Faith Margaret. No words can adequately convey the incredible gratitude...

Should Ricky Gervais return as Golden Globes host?

Complete Globes coverage | Gallery: Show highlights | Chat transcript It was challenging to keep track of all the celebrities and institutions that Ricky Gervais insulted during his second year as Golden Globes host. But here's a partial list: Charlie Sheen, Cher, Johnny Depp, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Hurley from "Lost," Heather Mills, Bruce Willis, Scientology, Hugh Hefner, Hugh Hefner's fiancee, Sandra Bullock and Tim Allen. Oh, and God. He tossed that in, too. Gervais was so harsh during certain moments that, when he was absent from the telecast for a while, viewers wondered whether he'd been fired mid-gig. He eventually returned and squashed that conspiracy theory. But the question lingers: Was Gervais cuttingly amusing or just unnecessarily mean? Another important question also remains: Should he be asked back again as host next year?...

Golden Globe Awards 2011: Best dressed and worst dressed

Complete Globes coverage | Gallery: Show highlights | Chat transcript Our best-dress pick: Natalie Portman. The Golden Globes 2011: it was a night for films like "The Social Network" and TV shows like "Glee" to be honored, a night to see some of Hollywood's brightest stars drink too much while looking bored out of their famous heads and a night to potentially be insulted on live television by Ricky Gervais. It also was a night for fine (and less than fine) fashion. After watching the red carpet shows and taking long follow-up looks this morning at photos of various gowns and get-ups, we've compiled our list of the five best and worst dressed at this year's event. Take a look at who they are, then rank them in our online surveys....

Golden Globe Awards 2011: Celebs without a cause

Complete Globes coverage | Gallery: Show highlights | Chat transcript 'Most importantly, to all the amazing kids that watch our show and the kids that our show celebrates, who are constantly told 'no' by the people in their environments, by bullies at school that they can't be who they are or have what they want because of who they are. Well, screw that, kids.' -- Best Supporting TV winner, 'Glee's' Chris Colfer (Getty Images) This year, the Golden Globes -- both the red carpet and the main event -- were virtually cause-free zones. As one chatter, Booboo (no relation to Yogi Bear), wryly noted last night, "So just curious... Darfur is all good now, right? Haven't heard a celebrity go on about that in quite a while, so it must be OK now. Just like the rain forests." "Haiti's all rebuilt, too," added chatter P. Before making a sweeping statement...

Golden Globes 2011: Winners and losers, mismatched shoes and Ricky Gervais's last time as host

"I am sorry, people. Helena Bonham Carter looks like the 80s threw up on her." -- Jen (Reuters) We spent Sunday night chatting with hundreds of you while watching the Golden Globe Awards. If you weren't around for the live show, some of the wittier exchanges have been excerpted below. A full transcript follows at the end of this post. 6 p.m. Jen Chaney: Good evening, all. Welcome to an evening of honoring the best in film and television while making snarky and/or ridiculous comments. Liz and I are both here and we're eager to commiserate with you and answer your questions. In particular, we'll be collecting #globesfail moments throughout the night, both here and on Twitter. If you see an ugly dress, if Ricky Gervais makes a particularly off-kilter joke, if someone wins who shouldn't -- that counts as a #globesfail moment. All right, let's get started. Liz,...

Annette Bening and "The Kids Are Alright" won. Natalie Portman, Colin Firth and "The Social Network" won. Chris Colfer, Jane Lynch and "Glee" took home trophies, too. No, there weren't too many surprises at this year's Golden Globe Awards. But there were three winners who fell into the somewhat unexpected category.
